Never a bad idea to replace the head gasket on a car this old. My 92 blew its out between cylinders at 43K miles in 2022. The distributor looks 180 out to me, but I'm no expert!. Can't wait for the start up!
I admire your optimism! You have the departure date etched in stone, but the condition of some of the minor vehicle systems such as the transmission are written in sponge.
On your 142, wonder if you had a pressure/fluid imbalance to set off the brake warning light. This sensor is usually located along the inner fender wheel arch area. All you need to do to reset it is to unscrew the piece where the wire is connected and reinstall. (Basically the octopus connector found on the 240s)
Thank's Dean for another stand up ( mostly ) comedy show. I'm hard pressed choosing to focus on the mechanical aspect or you comedy prowess. When you also turn up in a Three Crown ( ice hockey ) T-shirt, we know we dealing with a pro. There seems to be no end to your skillset mate.
I've seen that yellow varnish stuff inside of cooling systems before. Typically happens on older cars that are equipped with the Bosch jet-tronic fuel injection system. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Sreten Milisavljevic from M539Restorations but a couple years ago he resurrected an old 1979 BMW 323i from the dead and it had the exact same thing in the cooling system.
Hay buddy, it may not get the big view numbers but this is kinda stuff is Volvo gold. Like the red coolant return pipe, I was wondering if that's why mine is leaking and seeing the state of your old one confirms it I think. How hard is it to replace without removing the head? Looking forward to seeing this thing on the road! thanks for putting in the hours man 🤘
Been watching you for a few months and have recently baught my first car / first Volvo, i baught an 850 1995 with a T-5 engine and it sounds amazing for a first car
Your face once the ac unit drops out 😅 and then clutch/start/stall 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you're a legend 🤙
Gotta deal with the problems as they happen LOL
how you manage to accomplish anything with all the stuff you have laying around is beyond me. Hats off to you.
Thats just magic in progress

Interesting that it had so few miles and popped. I guess theres some truth to age being the issue. Distributor has since been re timed.

Worst case scenario we auto swap it lol

That's a really great suggestion. Next time I have a chance to mess with it, I'll see if it changes anything

I appreciate that!! I just try to represent in good fashion you know?
Great episode! Really looking forward to seeing the road trip!!
You're the guy holding this channel down, we're just here for the ride XD
I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for those watching and making me think im funny!!
I like these 2 door 142 & 242 cars. I don't think they got sold in the UK, in RHD for some reason. My dad had a 1971 144 Deluxe, I loved that car!
Thats interesting. I thought they would have been there!
Dude I love this car! I am looking forward to seeing the axel swap as well as that’s something I have never done.
Its as easy as taking it out and putting it back!!
@@DeanofMachines 🤣 good response..

Thats an interesting observation
a head gasket is great fun, good friends always want to join in!
Ive probably done 5 or 6 b23/b230 head gaskets this year. It really is great fun…
@@DeanofMachines i'll be doing one soon on the Chicken

Great video, work and nice to use old cars to drive daily😀
I really enjoy running around in these old Volvos!!
The ac unit falling out gave the same vibes when the Batmobile wouldnt work in Batman Returns😂
Haha yeah thats accurate
Another great video Dean of Volvo tinkering 😁
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you very much!
And yeah, I have a stuck right rear and front left caliper rn. I really need to do lines. It appears all the 140's are having similar aging problems.
These old parts are getting saggy and crusty! The Volvos are too!!
Re: AC panel. It may be sacrilege but small holes in corner of panel and dash and very small zip ties hold mine in.
I was thinking something along those lines. Would be easy and simple. Another option is magnets
@@DeanofMachinesI was thinking magnets as well
It's another rainy day, but least there's no lawn care enthusiasts 😂
That beige 71 is the same age as me.....but probably in better condition
Beige!? That’s yella!! Didn’t realize you were soo old Phill!!
@@DeanofMachines ooops sorry...it looked beige to me
Yeah 53 years old my friend

Thanks for coming back and for the kinda words dude! Coolant return pipe is easy when you take the exhaust manifold off
@@DeanofMachines thanks man, good luck and have fun with the 600 mile road trip.

How do you keep insurance on all of them ? "Repairman Plate"?
