    In this video I explain why I ditched my 2" extended risers, my Harley Davidson Sundowner seats and my Sport Side Cases for other alternatives.

    As a long-time rider that has only done Harley for the last four years, then went with exact same bike as you, I simply don’t understand this desire to sit upright on a bike. You need the forward lean to counter-balance the wind, and to use to bike’s performance. I’ve put over 20k on my PAS now, stock bars and seat, and would never change either. Extremely comfortable, IMHO. I also use the Sport bags for road trips, and absolutely love them, but can certainly see soft bags in my future for more adventure-style riding…

    Hey Mike, read your reply, so here I am. I agree in regards to the sport cases, I am worried about the locks as they seem overly complicated. But I will admit I only used bags once or twice a year so I don't want the extra frames attached full-time. But I'll continue to look at other options before my final decision. Thanks for another great video!

      The lock on one of my bags (sport) broke. The plastic part in the bag broke, so it's impossible to make the lock work. Even though the sport bags are super convenient and the bike looks better when they are off, I would not buy them again and would buy the aluminum bags options.

    Great reviews! When you stop for an hour or two, or overnight, I assume you're just detaching the side bags and bringing them with you? I'm thinking of potential theft.

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for most of my day to day riding, I'm not using the side bags, only the top box. I only put them on when I need the extra room. So for a trip, yes I will bring them in with me when the bike is parked overnight. For a shorter stop, I have cable locks that secure the bags closed and to the bike, but of course that is only going to stop the honest thieves. If I have something like cameras or my tablet with me, that gets locked in the top box. Generally if I'm concerned that I can't leave my bags alone for an hour or so, I'm probably not going to stop in that area anyway.

    I have a question regarding starting in colder temperatures for you Mike. I've been watching your videos and it's obvious you live somewhere where it does get colder. Have you had any issues with your PanAm starting in the cold and have you upgraded the OEM battery? Thanks!

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had some cold start gremlins, still working through them. I had the starter clutch update done a few weeks ago, which has helped alot, but I think a year and a half of my battery struggling to start the bike has taken it's tole. Will be working with the dealer to test and possibly replace the battery next.
      Probably sometime towards the end of Feb I'll be making a video detailing the issues I have had over my 10k miles of ownership and what the resolutions were.

  • @BGPD70
    @BGPD70 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, Mike I'm curious if you've had the same issues that so many of us have had with the starting of the PanAm, throwing all kind of codes, not starting- restarting, stalling on start, mode rides disappeared with triangle warning?
    Do you know about the/or has your starter clutch gear been replaced?
    Have you experienced the ARH being wired wrong causing the ride height to work sporadic, code and be stuck aired up?

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Starter clutch was replaced a few weeks ago, never had any ARH related issues. Still working a couple issues with the dealer and plan on making a video detailing everything and the resolutions.. though I've not had anything that I'd consider 'major', nothing that has prevented me from being able to ride... so far :)

      @@MikesMotorbikeChannel copy that, they have mine a 3rd time and I've discussed starter clutch gear service bulletin and redoing pins/wires on ARH, will see. Mine has progressed to the point of cranking once out of 3-4 times with codes, and even more rare a start without. If it's a code/s that affects operation, it has to be cleared and start process all over again.
      While I'm chatting with you I'd like to thank you for your videos.

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try not to get caught up in the debates of which bike is better, regardless of the bikes in question. The best bike is the one that does what you want for the price you are willing to pay. BMW has been making the GS for along time and it has a loyal following and is a very good bike. I have several co-workers that ride them and love them.
      For me, the BMW just didn't appeal to me. It felt big (I'm only 5'6) and I'm really drawn to the Pan America because it's different.
      If you are torn between those two bikes.. ride both and go with whichever one calls to you :) .

      Nothing against the BMW, but it just feels big for me.. not just the height, but I prefer bikes that just feel narrower and smaller. This is the same reason I don't care for touring bikes with big fairings. But the what sealed the deal for me was the ARH feature of the Pan America, given my short inseam :) .

    I have the base model. Harley has a way to go to compete with the other ADV bikes on basic equipment. No factory option for heated grips, all the other brands come with them or are at least a factory option. Non locking fuel cap,WTF!!!!!!!!! Every bike I've owned since the 70s,all non Harleys has this. For 110.00 extra you buy it, then you have to build the lock yourself and install it. Insane.The side cases, while decent, is another time consuming exercise in futility assembling the locks for them. No one else does this idiotic crap. Access to the air cleaner is the worst design I,ve ever seen. Working on a Moto-gp bike would be easier. Hopefully they will improve on these basic design flaws.
