@@thatkajunguy8029couldn't agree more. I ride a naked bike but I don't like all the stereotypes everyone throws around. Everyone gets a bike that that like and that suits their ride. I don't ride a sport bike because I like my wrists and I commute to work but I don't ride a cruiser because I ride a lot of corners and like to have fun. So to each their own! Keep the sticky side down.

@@thatkajunguy8029 I understand fully. But you gotta realize once you old heads are gone so will harley. They were not getting any younger customers until recently with the revolution engine. And even then its a very small amount due to everyone under 30 unable to buy any vehicle more than 5k. If they do not change with the times faster they will be left behind.

@@panrak123 Been hearing that since the mid 90s and yet, Harley still tops the list in motorcycle sales in the U.S. year after year. It's cool to repeat things you hear I guess but the fact remains that Harley is still top dog. There are bikes like Royal Enfield out there putting out 3k bikes and Honda and Kawi and all the other import builders have had bikes between 5k and 15k for years and years and years and Harley is STILL beating them. Are sales going down? Sure. But the fact that sales have been declining for years and they're still on top says something. It's still cool to hate on the king, but come up with something new as to why everyone else is still lagging behind and Harley is still on top.

@@yourwifesboyfriend6081Good question. I bought the Pan America over the GS for 2 main reasons.
      1. The dealer network. My closest BMW dealer is 50 minutes from my house. I have 4 Harley dealers within 35 minutes.
      2. Price. I would’ve spent about 1000$ more for the bike with everything I wanted on it. Not a big deal when you’re spending this kind of money on a bike, but every little bit helps.
I bought the Pan Am new in March of 2023. I have a little over 17,000 miles of smiles on it.

Not true. It’s the touring/cruisers that need the character. We’ve wanted the “Bronx” for over a decade, yet they put everything into that battery operated scooter. We want a naked sport bike, with this type of motor. Plenty of us HD owners want it, maybe not those randoms hanging around the dealership with a HOG vest on, which do not represent 90% of the actual riders.

If you follow MotoAmerica, (used to be AMA pro), you know that Harley competes well in two classes. One is the bagger class, and the other is the 'Hooligan' class. The Pan America seems to be the bike of choice in the hooligan class. I was talking to the guy that used to own the Honda dealership in town one day about cruiser bikes, and I mentioned the clunky transmissions. He said "Yeah, they like that - it makes them sound like Harley's." The clunky transmission isn't a flaw, it's a feature. Also Harleys are generally rubber mounted these days. You need to ride a rigid mounted Harley to really experience vibration. The Sportster S has the 1250 motor. Many people like the Nightster model better, and it's probably more like the MT-07, but it has a smaller 900cc motor. The S is faster, but some people think the Nightster is more fun.

Now for Japanese bikes, they always tell us we should leave the bike in gear at the light, but the last time I rode a Harley, I did like to go into a neutral at a light because the clutch pull was non-trivial.

Harley Davidson made a fast bike back in 2002 with the VRod. But people kept wanting to compare it to crotch rockets as far as “speed”.
The new Revolution Max motor is extremely similar to the VRod Revolution motor.
The VRod was also a style before function design. Willie G Davidson was a style guy. He wanted a certain look. So it compromised cornering.
It was a leap forward for HD. But was it priced where younger people could afford it.
The Pan Am was purpose built. And is targeting a market that can afford it.

Dang, I had mine at 135 playing with an old M3 a while back, but I was loaded down with the aluminum panniers and top box full of crap on a 5 hour ride. It was SUPER sketch and wobbly but never evolved into a tank slapper. I keep saying I'm gonna take the cases off and see what she'll do, but when I want to go fast I just take the 1190RX, lol.

If I remember correctly........they went DOHC and changed the angle of the cylinders. The main biggest difference is the angle change. All the other Harleys have a dumb angle which causes a weird firing order on the crankshaft. That's what gives them the iconic sound and vibrations. But not good at all for power and efficiency . And I'm pretty sure they sourced it from some other company. But I could be wrong. It's been a while since I read about it.
