I think a combo might be best. Hard bags have the advantage of security while soft bags are easier to remove from the bike and bring into your tent or hotel room. I have a Road King and I keep my camping gear, tools, and other motorcycle necessities in the hard bags. I have a medium sized duffle that I strap to the luggage rack that contains my tent and extra clothes. This is my setup whether the trip is overnight or multiple weeks. Years ago I had a BMW R1200GS and got by quite well with a hard Givi top case and a large duffle strapped to the passenger seat. I also do some backpacking so my camping gear tends to be small and light.

The combo will be my main set-up. All depends on what ride I’m doing. Love the feature of just taking the bags off and carrying to your destination.

Nice comparison between the 2. I was up in the air about which to buy myself but went with the hard bags simply for security and ease of entry. I do love the mosko stuff though, who knows I may end up with both in the end. I will be mostly on blacktop, gravel and fire / dirt roads rather than trails. Nice set up you have there!

I picked the Mosko ones last Thanksgiving. They had a sale on all this stuff. Of course, I didn’t receive till early March. I love the soft bags. One thing I forgot to mention is the soft ones are lighter than HD.

Great video. I have the three hard bags with liners , but you have me wanting the smaller soft side panniers you talked about with the top case , was a good looking set up.

Great review Colin! Those Mosko bags are tough. I went down on a hard packed dirt road and the bike slid about 20 feet on the Mosko reckless 80 bag (made from same material as Backcountry). Not even a scuff on it. I was shocked. I have since switched to the backcountry bags as they are much easier to remove when taking things into a hotel.

That’s great to hear about the durability of these bags. Of course, I prefer not to test them like you did. 😎

buying the bike I was super excited about the hard bags and bought them at the same time as the bike, a few weeks later when they came in I was like WOW they are HUGE... I won't be using them all that often, maybe for a long road trip ony. I found an old set of soft bags from my old sport touring bikes that JUST fits and I use those 100% of the time. I should have waited and got the Moskomoto bags or the sport hard bags... the big hard boxes are just too big for every day. I plan to start off road riding in the next year and I don't want to damage those hard bags. Oh well lesson learned. Either I'll end up selling the hard bags or they will be come very expensive locking tool boxes in my garage HA! Thanks for the video, I think I'll start saving up for the mosko moto bags, I wasn't really sure if I'd like them, from what I had seen, they seemed not user friendly for quick get in and out of them.

Nice video Colin! 👍🏼 Exciting to see more riders with new genres of bikes in their garage. Because, you know, it’s a mood thing. Lol
Have used several different hard panniers before going mostly with textile. On my second set of soft bags and I do like them, pro’s and con’s to all but really just important to address the individual riders needs, right? I do like the ability to adjust the position of the soft bags in terms of weight distribution and can carry a wider variety of abnormally shaped items with them. Now it’s time to get them dirty.
Stay well and ride often my friend. 🤙🏼

Question about highway speeds with the side panniers and top case. Any stability issues from turbulence/buffeting? A friend with a GS certainly does. Thanks!

I was surprised how many Pan Americans they have here in Australia. Guess I shouldn't with how vast the Outback is, but I was. Now that we are here we are thinking about getting a small little car to get around town instead of a 4x4. That way we can save the money and get a pair of ADV bikes. May be picking your brain if we do....

Ordered my HD hard cases including the top case and brackets when I bought my Pan back in May. Dealer said they’ll be in in a couple weeks. So June. Then July, then August then December. WTF Harley. Riding season is over in the north here by November. Fix your sheet.

Not at all. They fit very well. Only downside is you have to take off the 4 holders off the H-D bars. Takes about 5 minutes to do this. If you switch between hard and soft bags, this could get annoying after a while.

TO ME .... THE HARD BAGS ARE A BETTER CHOICE BECAUSE THEY ARE EASY TO ACCESS, NOT A WHOLE LOT OF OPENING THIS AND ACCESSING THAT. JUST A BIG OPEN SPACE TO USE ONCE YOU OPEN THE CASE. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE SOFT BAGS YOU HAVE TO UNLATCH SEVERAL CLIPS AND UNROLL THE BAGS AND OPEN THIS AND UNZIP THAT. TO MUCH TO ME. JUST GIVE ME DURABLE, SPACE, AND SECURITY. THE HARD BAGS ARE THE TRUE WINNER TO ME. I PURCHASED THE SILVER SET.
