This things are just tips, to make you not die everytime when you see a small bee, it's not so funny to die every single time when you see a walking tree like me.
I feel like this video is unnecessarily heavily opinionated. If you don't have access to a fashion melon, wearing a winter hat and using a thermal stone will keep you warm longer than just using the stone. You also have some contradicting advice; you say don't pick flowers because you will have less butterfly spawns, but then you say don't be worried about decreasing finite resources in your world. I agree that there are much better ways of getting sanity, but I wouldn't say picking them is a mistake.
Edgy Rick I don't understand. The thermal stone keeps you warm until it goes tepid, and then from that point on, insulation keeps you warm depending on what you are wearing.
I don't know why this is how it is, but it's how it is, insulation plus heat stone will make you freeze faster then just one or the other, you'd have to ask KCDA on that one...
Usually because after the thermal stone runs out of 'heat' it will start getting colder. This is why they can be placed in ice boxes for summer. Its helpful then, but not in winter.
by your logic, now I feel better about never using thermal stones in dst, as if they make me freeze faster, then that's another reason above being kinda expensive if the durability is worn down hard enough
Staying sane is preferable early in the game, especially when you don't even have a base set up yet, and most people pick flowers as a means of doing this. Flowers are a renewable resource anyways. There will be other chances to get butterfly wings.
I took the time to read through the majority of the comments here after watching the video. This is the first video from Edgy Rick that I have stumbled upon and I must say, between the blatant disrespect for anyone else and the lack of broader information, I don't think I'll be watching more. I've been playing DS and DST since day one of beta and I strongly disagree with many of the points he makes here. Which is fine, but after reading the comments it is clear that he seems to think there is no other way to play. This game is amazing and it is made much more fun by the ability to allow players to learn as they play and create a personalized play style. I am inconsequential on my own, but look at the broader picture on this, Edgy. Any one of your videos could be the first impression on new potential subscribers or other youtubers looking for working partners for bigger projects. Speaking to people in the manner I read over on multiple occasions here makes you look like a bad option. A bad option as a channel, a bad option as a venture partner and a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and clean up your attitude. You are holding yourself back form intellectual discussions and many opportunities for advancement. Which may or may not be a damn shame for other people, but absolutely is for you.

As someone who is newer to the don't starve community I have to say these vids aren't very helpful as you give a point and back it up with a poor explanation . I understand the basics like kiting, using caves, what items I should avoid using. But when trying to understand the complex parts such as why lower sanity is better to have, the explanations are half of the time unclear and difficult to understand. Maybe I should learn more about the game but that is my viewpoint on this particular video and some others you have made in the past. I try to explain it when I can, some can just be incredibly long therefore equations though, sometimes they would even take upwards of a minute to justify.
these videos are focused more towards experienced players, so it makes sense some of this stuff seems confusing. Flowers boost sanity so a lot of people pick them to get sanity back, but it's best to leave them so they spawn butterflies.
you know, I think the real and unconscious reason people fear sanity loss is because your vision gets grey and blurry, making it much less pleasant to the eye.
Small trick for the shadow hands. When one appear, walk to the hand's starting point with any light source equipped and it will dissappear without touching the fire.

I like that you're the one who says stuff like: "Oh you should use Pan flute to kill hounds, don't use tooth traps etc. etc. i'm so pro" Yeah? I think that i rather use the Pan flute to deenrage the Dfly when i'm kiting her and the lavaes are dead. "Guys i'm very pro, don't use rocks to make battlehelmets, they are very expensive etc. etc. make 80 crockpots" Expensive? They are literally cost two rocks and two golds and they are available from the beginning while you need an alchemy engine to make football helmet which has 300 less health. On top of that they are cheaper at the beginning of the game since rocks and gold is way more easier to get. And 80 crockpots?! For what the fuck?! The max you need for a full group is 10-15. The rest of the video were good tips i have to admit that at least And yes i admit Wolfgang is way better in Combat then Wigfrid because he has more damege but i'm not against having a Wigfrid in my team. Gonna be a douche because your thoughts are stupid. Panflute is renewable, not to mention you don't need it for dragonfly if you just do enough DPS. Two rocks is ~30 seconds of time wasted. Football helmets are ~10 seconds of time wasted, 3x less time spent than getting just the 2 rocks alone. 80 crockpots, you heard me, 20 for each base, one by the swamp base, one area of them in the ruins base, the desert base, and the pig king base.
We are talking about early game and what are you talking about for you it's harder to get 2 stones 2 gold then to make an alchemy engine (for 12 stones 4 golds 16 woods) and find pig skin from pig house or from the pig heads or from fighting pigs when you can literally mine 1-2 boulders (gold boulders) to get a helmet that has more durability? Not seeing your point? And yes thulecite crowns and slurtle helmets are better but we are talking about EARLY GAME!
TBH the game is better when you don't play so try hard. Obviously if you know what your doing it's an easy game but it's also a boring game. DS is best when your caught of guard. Pack of hounds chasing you then deer clops spawns in and your living off carrots and berry bushes for two days while you kite them. Not when your sat in a day 1000+ base and you can go ark for ten minutes without worrying about death. But each to there own I guess.
Though it would be considered tedious continously being slayed by these wretched obstacles. But these players that are looking to experience the game in depth would love to gain advice on how to live longer.
i tried playing dont starve using all the rules i learned like i was doing a work and it drained out the fun. my tip is to do Science, make a base nad then tri to survive
I can definetely see why some people find it boring when you use these tips but honestly, i prefer having a 300+ day where i can just start massive bunnymen and pigmen wars whenever i want lol.
Yeah, this game is a lot better when you have no idea what you are doing. In one of my first runs, I was insane, and didn’t know how to get my sanity back up. I figured out that that weird looking dark thing was a rabbit. Then my character started saying show yourself. I had no idea what the hounds were at the time, and I thought my character was just saying that because they were going insane. Then the hounds came, and I thought they were a figment of my imagination. Nope. I didn’t have any armor, and was low on health. I died in two hits. But it was really fun! One of my favorite moments of me playing this game. It was a good experience for learning about tons of different things, even though it ended out being tons of mistakes.

Wolfgang players at their best. They can just tank Deerclops with a few campfires, marble armor and a football helmet. Of course it’s easy for him and Wigfrid mains, but not Maxwell or Wendy mains.

With the flower one, I feel already let down- I suggest taking some flowers, since they’re renewable and help you with sanity if you don’t have things ready to fight the nightmares, but not most of them in a certain area where you put you’re base, sine you might have to travel far from it to get butterflies.
Here's some useful advice contrary to this video: 1) Don't be afraid to pick up flowers if really low on sanity. You can't fight those creatures early on. Butterflies don't yield much health. 2) Make a football helmet. It's easy to make early on and will save you most enemy encounters as it absorbs 70-80% damage. In winter, all I need is a thermal stone and this baby. 3) Don't fight the deerclops if you don't want to. Noone will judge you like this video guy. Deerclops will despawn in a few days. I use a panflute to make him sleep and he looses interest. I killed him with toothtraps once. 4) Open the cave entrance, except when near your base. Bats are easy to kill and drop Guano which is 1.5 as effective as manure, Which is not easy to get if you can't find beefalos or pigs. 5) Don't waste rocks on walls. I only make 1-2 wall funnels to lure the dogs or other creatures in to kill them with toothtraps. Nothing more. 6) Make a second, smaller base in a cave near its entrance, so u can escape overworld attacks. 7) Keep multiple backpacks. When I go out venturing I use an empty pack to gather resources. Backpack doesn't catch fire so put stuff you wanna save in it, in case you die by fire.
1) Flowers spawns butterfly aka hp, plus an axe can kill nightmare creatures. 2) He was talking about insulation clothing not armor 3) You SHOULD fight deerclops, the eyebrella will make spring into a friendly season instead of an annoying season, plus it gives u cool for summer. 4) Batilisk is just annoying, plus rot is a much better fertilizer, unless u use farms which is useless compared to berry bushes. 5) You could also use walls on dragonfly to rush her early game. 6) Waste of resources and time. 7) Use chests lmao, if you want extra inventory space u could farm krampus.

You got a few things wrong For 5), NEVER use walls in a tooth trap field, you'll just corner yourself, which is a death sentence. For 4) Bats, are annoying as fuck, there is no reason to build your base beside a sinkhole. And finally, for 7), backpacks are flammable, what the hell are you talking about.

I dont think everybody is a Wolfgang main, I know shadow creatures aint hard to fight, but I still appreciate my life and my vision because the blurry screen that you get by being insane is worst than nightmares ripping your face.
In DST, lots of people don't know how useful caves can be (I sure didn't at first) when they first start playing, because when you turn caves on, when hosting a game, it will say something like "caves are resource intensive, can your computer handle it?" It scares people off because they honestly don't know. The truth is, you'll only need a few gigs of ram to host a game with a few people that has caves. If you have four gigs or more and decent internet, you'll be fine. Just ask all your friends to come with you into the caves if you want to cut down on resources.

1. Nightmare creatures are extremely easy to kite. 2. Eyebrella is useful, but not the clothing I showed in the video. 3. Eyebrella keeps you alive in spring and summer, your sanity is not worth your life. 4. Not sure wtf you are talking about. 5. Farms are cancer, and extremey inefficient. 6. Rocks are renewable at an affixed rate, meteor showers generate about 15 rocks every 7-11 days, that is not enough to keep a 6 person server running. 7. Some who think differently are retarded. 8. Sanity is bad, keep it low. 9. k 10. Magiluminescence or puffy vest are usually better options then a backpack before krampus sack.
There are more ways to generate rocks then just meteor showers, petrified forests and underground cave-ins are two prominent rock sources, rocks are plentiful enough even on a long lasting server. As a tip for underground cave-in rocks, let moles live around your underground base and collect the rocks, then later when they are roaming you dig up their mole holes for a huge rock/gold/nitre/blue+red gem pay out.
Edgy Rick I’m not a don’t starve expert but : 1: nightmares monsters are annoying to kite. also, rot 2: beefalo hat is great in winter/spring for isolation and being able to walk close to them 3: cave bases 4: no one leaves meat on the ground 5: dragonfruit pies 6: rock can be a problem but to say that crafting a helm is a waste off them. I am not sure 7: some people just don't need to deal with nightmares creature all the time 8: see number 7 9: 10:backpack early game is a life saver (I dunno if dragonfruits were in the game back then but the point remain that they are great)
I click to see don't starve tips, then get a guide of don't starve together tips, which are useless for vanilla, and they are pretty badly explained and almost completely unjustified.

It's not a question of what you use or not... If you say in the video that A is wrong, you should use B!. Then, when someone asks about B you say: "I use D instead". So, the point you make on the video is mute, therefore its of no use. It's a filler. On another comment, people told you: "hey dude, you are contradicting yourself, first you say "don't pick flowers" and further in the video you say "don't refrain from picking non renewable resources for fear of "extinguish" them". Also, *something about this hats and stones*... And you also ran away (intellectually) by mentioning thermal stones again... Me, and I'm assuming Pawel are not questioning your methods, but the thought process and subsequently the validity of what you say. It's called questioning logic. It's the equivalent of asking someone about terrorism and them yelling "SWEEEDEN" instead of explaining why the first thing was said. If the hats are useless, why mention them in the video? That's the point.
Ugh...the one thing I can fully agree on is people using nothing but backpacks for the chest slot. It always seems like I'm the only one on servers that ditches the backpack altogether, then end up surviving longer. This is even with experienced players that are too spoiled on extra space when they could just preemptively craft items at their base and only carry 6 essential items. (Body armor, head armor, dark sword, small food stack, mining hat, lantern optional)
Regardless of what you say I will always pick the flowers in the beginning for rot then go to the bee hives for plentiful flowers to gather butterflies from to replant near my base
Quick tip: I totally agree with not picking flowers, but I have a better strategy: go around looking for a natural resource before starting your base, preferably reeds or the pig king, etc. This way while you're exploring, you can pick flowers in a spot where you'll never go back to. Picking flowers, pretty parasol and the garland are all pretty helpful early game.
No, no they are not. Pretty parasol is useless once you get an umbrella, which is extremely easy to craft, and the garland raises your sanity, which is bad because you won't get nightmare fuel.
@@pilky_boooi I just steal the hat from the walrus early on so I barely acknowledge their existence. The beefalo hat is technically warmer but I never end up needing it.
@@pilky_boooi Well, the hat he drops gives you a MASSIVE sanity regen so I would recommend cheesing him with tooth traps or whatever you'd like. Afterwards you just need to repair the hat every week or so and you will have no more sanity problems. You can also make a walking cane with his tusk for a nice speed boost (the cane has infinite durability btw).
Mistakes about being afraid being on low sanity and being afraid of using dark sword is spot on. Like every noob I know (including myself some time ago) were doing this. Mistake about using backpack instead of other useful things - I still do it. It just too hard to part form my things that I always carry around. Maybe one day... Or never. Btw, you really needed to speed up Deerclops fight. Thanks, I know how to kite him (even though in reality it doesn't always go so smoothly)

I super agree that you should use caves, most servers though don't have caves though. And I know how many people are a little bit scared about going to the ruins, but If you play your cards right, it shouldn't be so bad anymore, I've even got a star caller's staff and a magilumenecence (is that how you spell it?) and taken down the labyrinth (not saying what happened cause spoilers) by day 14.
first: not everyone has a pc they call their battle station. some players have a small, decent keyboard, a pc that can run the game, and they dont lag too much. then, players who dont lag. alot. kiting 2 different nightmares doesn't seem all that safe. flowers are renewable, and most new players probably dont wanna die cuz some youtuber said "sane bad, insane good." unless they're playing maxwell, it seems like a bad idea to them to go insane. they will probably listen to you, be insane, die hundreds of times, and eventually quit the game all cuz "oh how DARE you not know how to kite. how DARE YOU try not dieing, even though you're new and don't know how to do all the epic totally gamer things i do. picking flowers for sanity/health? no, dont do that, they bad, even though there are tons of flowers and renewable" no.wonder you're called edgy, this is the only way you see to play the game. i enjoyed the game WAY better when sane, being attacked by 20 things at once isnt easy. no winter gear thing is also stupid. new players come across this and try it, they would be better off making the gear. they aren't gods at the game, and neither are you. this was the first impression of your channel for me, and this vid is old, but, like, people dont have to be insane all the time. most new players barely know how to kite, most haven't even reached winter alive because they follow your advice. i spent 4 hours trying over and over, thinking "guy good, only listen to him." then eventually, a server actually helped and realized i was new. they told me forget almost everything you said, and actually gave the basics. they told me yes, insane bad sometimes, but not all. they told me everything they knew, suggesting that make some winter gear just incase, burn controlled fires, and thermal stone heated whenever possible. most people who watched this vid and channel are new. keep that in mind. guess they dont call you edgy for nothing.
I know this comment is late but picking flowers is in no way a mistake in my opinion. I normally pick about two stacks when I start a new game. The flowers rot quickly and the rot is amazing for fertilization especially for the first sets of grass tufts and berry bushes in the base. Other then that I agree with the rest of them, especially the last one.
Edgy Rick MY ASS. You think, LIGHTBULBS, are straight up more efficient than picking flowers? I’m sure you’ve seen sodium_flouride’s comments about how flowers can be EASILY farmed for rot AND butterflies. That’s not even counting for the krampus spawn after you kill too many butterflies! Actually better source of rot is juicy berries, lightbulbs and flowers have exact same amount of days of spoilage, which is 6 days, and you can plant flowers back tho if you catch butterfly into a bug net
Honestly, if you find a bunch of bees and a couple of flowers, flowers are generally infinite, some might argue that you won't have honey, that what the bee boxes are for, take out some nests, make some bee boxes and boom infinite honey, unlike bee nests, these are renewable,and somewhat more efficient. Nobody wants to fight deerclops with a spear. Being spooked of having no sanity is normal, your screen turns white you can hear whispers, if it isn't scary, it's annoying to hear and sound is quite important in this game so turning it off might be an option,
I know that every Don’t starve player does things differently but there are a few things I have to disagree with 1. The idea that winter items aren’t worth the resources is absurd by using the Beefalo Hat which you claimed to be a waste of resources you could make it through more than half the day of winter without a thermal stone 2. While collecting flowers does reduce the amount of butterflies that spawn they aren’t your best healing method and using flowers to restore sanity isn’t very effective either It is best to collect flowers so that they can rot in your inventory there they can be used as fertilizer for your berry and grass farms which are necessary for your survival in the game 3.opening up sinkholes is something you want to do since every sinkhole in your world leads to a completely different cave which allows you to get even more resources. 4. While the shadow sword is a very good weapon the ham bat is the better way to go, not only do you not loose sanity but you have a weapon that has infinite durability and while it does rot over time the weapon is EXTREMELY cheap to make due to the fact that it only uses meat and pig skins Despite these things I do agree with most of the other things in the video so, good job 👍
but i play on mobile dont starve pocket edition and about 1# i searched up on youtube how to raise your insanity cause showdow creatures started appearing and one said picking up flowers would help and i dont even know what nightmare creatures are!! im such a noob at the game i only started yesterday :p
@@pilky_boooi I was not making fun of you or anyone. I was altering what simmikke said to make a one-up of sorts. I generally can't make it past day 30. My most recent run I made it to day 22 then got destroyed because beefalo in heat.
Number 0: starting a world in autumn or spring is a terrible idea. You can get cactus flowers in summer and get the macktusk drops in winter so the best strat is obviously to start in summer or winter.

Ok. This is all good for the people that can survive long enough to craft dark swords and stuff but for people that can barely get to winter they are going to try to keep their sanity up. So that's why I don't like this.
I feel like people play Wolfgang, only because : 1. He does more damage, UNderstandable 2, The player Can't kite perfectly - therefore they choose Wolfgang, since he can manipulate his hp, and they can tank 3. Fear of playing the "pro characters". The charcters only 0.003% of humans can master. Like Wendy, Wes, Woodie or Willow.
It's better due to nightmare creatures dropping extremely valuable loot (nightmare fuel) which can be used to make the best weapons and armor in the game, and many, many other things.
I do all of these things in don’t starve except for running from deerclops, opening sinkholes, destroying stuff I can’t destroy or use again, and using only backpacks because I usually play as Webber so I normally have a lot of spiders to help me
and then you bloody realize that you actually can plant flowers with buterflies, make a top hat and leave it at 1% for prehistirator, and that nightmres will kill you while u hit deerclops because of sanity drain
Just one little tiny person's input ... I want to say thank you, first, for some of your helpful tips, but I have to tell you something I hope you take a little to heart ... I kind of crashed after I watched a few of your videos. I was having a lot of fun playing DST but wanted to take it to the next level and learn new skills. Cue your videos. I'm definitely more PVE/Base-building/Resource-mining/crafting type player than someone who's interested in fighting the Big Baddies of a game world. Your rather sour tone about players EXACTLY like me who enjoy all the things you call "mistakes" knocked the wind out of me a bit. It made this game feel like maybe it wasn't for me after all. The thing is ... your videos are really helpful on lots of topics but I say this warmly, a light touch to your arm, a fuzzy little smile, but maybe give some thought about at least acknowledging that not everyone is good at the same things or has the same objectives. I TRIED to start over following your advice but it was a misery campaign lol ... i'm NOT good enough. It stripped away all the joy of escaping to a world with resources and small gains that can be achieved. TL;DR: Thank you for your hard work making videos - please consider softening your tone a little?
picking flowers is a good thing cause you can let them decay into rot and use it as fertilizer which is significantly better than using butterflys for healing.
Damn why even play the game dude. I stumbled upon this vid and I don’t understand why anyone would want to play this way. How do you even have fun? It seems as though you play the game simply to be the best and not for your personal enjoyment. If anyone sees this comment, play the way you have fun. Sanity is best left at a mid state so you can easily go insane, and still good to leave empty since insanity = nightmare fuel. Nightmare fuel can be used to get the best items in the game such as dark swords, night armor, and several other items. As such, low sanity is good. I usually stay at around 20% sanity where 15% puts you insane, so you constantly go insane then get out of it by killing a nightmare creature. Sanity shouldn't be left up high as in the only places you want to be sane (caves/ruins, bosses) you will quickly go insane anyway.

Ok, so I have a disagreement 1-if you want to stay sane-in early game-, picking flowers is the best thing to do. It's very fast and especially quick when you find areas of flowers 2-you should craft a top hat for the prestihatinator 3-most people going underground get to scared of being killed killed, but that's mainly because they try it early game Other than that your list is pretty great.
I would say maybe. Play how you want. If you feel like it's enough, you can stop anytime. If you feel you need more, get more. Like I said, it's your game, play how you want.
making a top hat is useful because you need it for for the hat machine (i forgot the name so i just call it hat machine) also you should make winter gear because staying just above freezing is not good cause the fashion melon can rot and if you are relying on it then you would die very fast. and with not picking flowers, you shouldn't pick them unless you don't want to go insane. you shouldn't always be insane like this person is telling you because that makes things way more difficult. just let yourself get insane when you need nightmare fuel then grab some flowers to out of insanity or eat things that boost sanity such as cooked green caps, cooked cactus flesh, etc. the only good tips i really see on here is fighting dearclops and using armor in body slot. but even with dearclops if you are a new player and wasn't prepared for the fight then just run from it and keep playing and have fun. then once you learn more stuff and get better if you do another game which most players do to have even more fun you can get prepared again. most of these tips are for people experienced in the game and are able to risk everything. if you want good tips on everything i would recommend the beard 777 and James bucket because they both make videos on individual things and have way more detail and give better tips than this guy.

I feel like this video is unnecessarily heavily opinionated. If you don't have access to a fashion melon, wearing a winter hat and using a thermal stone will keep you warm longer than just using the stone. You also have some contradicting advice; you say don't pick flowers because you will have less butterfly spawns, but then you say don't be worried about decreasing finite resources in your world. I agree that there are much better ways of getting sanity, but I wouldn't say picking them is a mistake.
Insulation + thermal stone means insulation is the only factor that matters due to how game physics work.
Edgy Rick I don't understand. The thermal stone keeps you warm until it goes tepid, and then from that point on, insulation keeps you warm depending on what you are wearing.
I don't know why this is how it is, but it's how it is, insulation plus heat stone will make you freeze faster then just one or the other, you'd have to ask KCDA on that one...
Usually because after the thermal stone runs out of 'heat' it will start getting colder. This is why they can be placed in ice boxes for summer. Its helpful then, but not in winter.
by your logic, now I feel better about never using thermal stones in dst, as if they make me freeze faster, then that's another reason above being kinda expensive if the durability is worn down hard enough

Staying sane is preferable early in the game, especially when you don't even have a base set up yet, and most people pick flowers as a means of doing this. Flowers are a renewable resource anyways. There will be other chances to get butterfly wings.

I took the time to read through the majority of the comments here after watching the video. This is the first video from Edgy Rick that I have stumbled upon and I must say, between the blatant disrespect for anyone else and the lack of broader information, I don't think I'll be watching more.
I've been playing DS and DST since day one of beta and I strongly disagree with many of the points he makes here. Which is fine, but after reading the comments it is clear that he seems to think there is no other way to play. This game is amazing and it is made much more fun by the ability to allow players to learn as they play and create a personalized play style.
I am inconsequential on my own, but look at the broader picture on this, Edgy. Any one of your videos could be the first impression on new potential subscribers or other youtubers looking for working partners for bigger projects. Speaking to people in the manner I read over on multiple occasions here makes you look like a bad option. A bad option as a channel, a bad option as a venture partner and a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and clean up your attitude. You are holding yourself back form intellectual discussions and many opportunities for advancement. Which may or may not be a damn shame for other people, but absolutely is for you.

As someone who is newer to the don't starve community I have to say these vids aren't very helpful as you give a point and back it up with a poor explanation . I understand the basics like kiting, using caves, what items I should avoid using. But when trying to understand the complex parts such as why lower sanity is better to have, the explanations are half of the time unclear and difficult to understand. Maybe I should learn more about the game but that is my viewpoint on this particular video and some others you have made in the past.

these videos are focused more towards experienced players, so it makes sense some of this stuff seems confusing. Flowers boost sanity so a lot of people pick them to get sanity back, but it's best to leave them so they spawn butterflies.

Expensive? They are literally cost two rocks and two golds and they are available from the beginning while you need an alchemy engine to make football helmet which has 300 less health. On top of that they are cheaper at the beginning of the game since rocks and gold is way more easier to get. And 80 crockpots?! For what the fuck?! The max you need for a full group is 10-15.

Two rocks is ~30 seconds of time wasted.
Football helmets are ~10 seconds of time wasted, 3x less time spent than getting just the 2 rocks alone.
80 crockpots, you heard me, 20 for each base, one by the swamp base, one area of them in the ruins base, the desert base, and the pig king base.
Football helmets in DST don't last as long. I'd rather use Wigfrid's Helmet and have extra durability
And I'd rather use slurtle helmets and thulecite crowns? Your point? Wigfrid's helmets are much harder to make then a football helm.
We are talking about early game and what are you talking about for you it's harder to get 2 stones 2 gold then to make an alchemy engine (for 12 stones 4 golds 16 woods) and find pig skin from pig house or from the pig heads or from fighting pigs when you can literally mine 1-2 boulders (gold boulders) to get a helmet that has more durability? TBH the game is better when you don't play so try hard. Obviously if you know what your doing it's an easy game but it's also a boring game. DS is best when your caught of guard. Pack of hounds chasing you then deer clops spawns in and your living off carrots and berry bushes for two days while you kite them. Not when your sat in a day 1000+ base and you can go ark for ten minutes without worrying about death. But each to there own I guess.
Though it would be considered tedious continously being slayed by these wretched obstacles. But these players that are looking to experience the game in depth would love to gain advice on how to live longer.

Yeah, this game is a lot better when you have no idea what you are doing. In one of my first runs, I was insane, and didn’t know how to get my sanity back up. I figured out that that weird looking dark thing was a rabbit. Then my character started saying show yourself. I had no idea what the hounds were at the time, and I thought my character was just saying that because they were going insane. Then the hounds came, and I thought they were a figment of my imagination. Nope. I didn’t have any armor, and was low on health. I died in two hits. But it was really fun! One of my favorite moments of me playing this game. It was a good experience for learning about tons of different things, even though it ended out being tons of mistakes.

I suggest taking some flowers, since they’re renewable and help you with sanity if you don’t have things ready to fight the nightmares, but not most of them in a certain area where you put you’re base, sine you might have to travel far from it to get butterflies.

Tip: leave at least a few flowers on the floor to capture butterflies later and make a flower field. Easy healing, easy sanity restoring and bees
Its actually impressive that he manages to get almost all of his 'mistakes' entirely wrong, just wow, caves is about the only one i agree with
Here's some useful advice contrary to this video:
1) Don't be afraid to pick up flowers if really low on sanity. You can't fight those creatures early on. Butterflies don't yield much health.
2) Make a football helmet. It's easy to make early on and will save you most enemy encounters as it absorbs 70-80% damage.
In winter, all I need is a thermal stone and this baby.
3) Don't fight the deerclops if you don't want to. Noone will judge you like this video guy. Deerclops will despawn in a few days. I use a panflute to make him sleep and he looses interest. I killed him with toothtraps once.
4) Open the cave entrance, except when near your base. Bats are easy to kill and drop Guano which is 1.5 as effective as manure, Which is not easy to get if you can't find beefalos or pigs.
5) Don't waste rocks on walls. I only make 1-2 wall funnels to lure the dogs or other creatures in to kill them with toothtraps. Nothing more.
6) Make a second, smaller base in a cave near its entrance, so u can escape overworld attacks.
7) Keep multiple backpacks. When I go out venturing I use an empty pack to gather resources. Backpack doesn't catch fire so put stuff you wanna save in it, in case you die by fire.
1) Flowers spawns butterfly aka hp, plus an axe can kill nightmare creatures.
2) He was talking about insulation clothing not armor
3) You SHOULD fight deerclops, the eyebrella will make spring into a friendly season instead of an annoying season, plus it gives u cool for summer.
4) Batilisk is just annoying, plus rot is a much better fertilizer, unless u use farms which is useless compared to berry bushes.
5) You could also use walls on dragonfly to rush her early game.
6) Waste of resources and time.
7) Use chests lmao, if you want extra inventory space u could farm krampus.

For 5), NEVER use walls in a tooth trap field, you'll just corner yourself, which is a death sentence.
For 4) Bats, are annoying as fuck, there is no reason to build your base beside a sinkhole.

I dont think everybody is a Wolfgang main, I know shadow creatures aint hard to fight, but I still appreciate my life and my vision because the blurry screen that you get by being insane is worst than nightmares ripping your face.
In DST, lots of people don't know how useful caves can be (I sure didn't at first) when they first start playing, because when you turn caves on, when hosting a game, it will say something like "caves are resource intensive, can your computer handle it?" It scares people off because they honestly don't know. The truth is, you'll only need a few gigs of ram to host a game with a few people that has caves. If you have four gigs or more and decent internet, you'll be fine. Just ask all your friends to come with you into the caves if you want to cut down on resources.
Usually I'll pick flowers as an easy source of rot around the time I'm setting up my base. Having alot of rot for grass and berry bushes is good as if I cant find beefallo it is a nice alternative

There are more ways to generate rocks then just meteor showers, petrified forests and underground cave-ins are two prominent rock sources, rocks are plentiful enough even on a long lasting server.
As a tip for underground cave-in rocks, let moles live around your underground base and collect the rocks, then later when they are roaming you dig up their mole holes for a huge rock/gold/nitre/blue+red gem pay out.
Petrified forests spawn after ~80 days, and then that's only a few hundred rocks.

Ugh...the one thing I can fully agree on is people using nothing but backpacks for the chest slot. It always seems like I'm the only one on servers that ditches the backpack altogether, then end up surviving longer. This is even with experienced players that are too spoiled on extra space when they could just preemptively craft items at their base and only carry 6 essential items. (Body armor, head armor, dark sword, small food stack, mining hat, lantern optional)
Regardless of what you say I will always pick the flowers in the beginning for rot then go to the bee hives for plentiful flowers to gather butterflies from to replant near my base

Quick tip: I totally agree with not picking flowers, but I have a better strategy: go around looking for a natural resource before starting your base, preferably reeds or the pig king, etc. This way while you're exploring, you can pick flowers in a spot where you'll never go back to. Picking flowers, pretty parasol and the garland are all pretty helpful early game.
No, no they are not. Pretty parasol is useless once you get an umbrella, which is extremely easy to craft, and the garland raises your sanity, which is bad because you won't get nightmare fuel.

@@pilky_boooi Well, the hat he drops gives you a MASSIVE sanity regen so I would recommend cheesing him with tooth traps or whatever you'd like. Afterwards you just need to repair the hat every week or so and you will have no more sanity problems. You can also make a walking cane with his tusk for a nice speed boost (the cane has infinite durability btw).
Mistakes about being afraid being on low sanity and being afraid of using dark sword is spot on. Like every noob I know (including myself some time ago) were doing this.
Mistake about using backpack instead of other useful things - I still do it. It just too hard to part form my things that I always carry around. Maybe one day... Or never.
Btw, you really needed to speed up Deerclops fight. Thanks, I know how to kite him (even though in reality it doesn't always go so smoothly)

I super agree that you should use caves, most servers though don't have caves though. And I know how many people are a little bit scared about going to the ruins, but If you play your cards right, it shouldn't be so bad anymore, I've even got a star caller's staff and a magilumenecence (is that how you spell it?) and taken down the labyrinth (not saying what happened cause spoilers) by day 14.
first: not everyone has a pc they call their battle station. some players have a small, decent keyboard, a pc that can run the game, and they dont lag too much. then, players who dont lag. alot. kiting 2 different nightmares doesn't seem all that safe. flowers are renewable, and most new players probably dont wanna die cuz some youtuber said "sane bad, insane good." unless they're playing maxwell, it seems like a bad idea to them to go insane. they will probably listen to you, be insane, die hundreds of times, and eventually quit the game all cuz "oh how DARE you not know how to kite. how DARE YOU try not dieing, even though you're new and don't know how to do all the epic totally gamer things i do. picking flowers for sanity/health? no, dont do that, they bad, even though there are tons of flowers and renewable" no.wonder you're called edgy, this is the only way you see to play the game. i enjoyed the game WAY better when sane, being attacked by 20 things at once isnt easy. no winter gear thing is also stupid. new players come across this and try it, they would be better off making the gear. they aren't gods at the game, and neither are you. this was the first impression of your channel for me, and this vid is old, but, like, people dont have to be insane all the time. most new players barely know how to kite, most haven't even reached winter alive because they follow your advice. i spent 4 hours trying over and over, thinking "guy good, only listen to him." then eventually, a server actually helped and realized i was new. they told me forget almost everything you said, and actually gave the basics. they told me yes, insane bad sometimes, but not all. they told me everything they knew, suggesting that make some winter gear just incase, burn controlled fires, and thermal stone heated whenever possible. most people who watched this vid and channel are new. keep that in mind. guess they dont call you edgy for nothing.

I know this comment is late but picking flowers is in no way a mistake in my opinion. I normally pick about two stacks when I start a new game. The flowers rot quickly and the rot is amazing for fertilization especially for the first sets of grass tufts and berry bushes in the base. Other then that I agree with the rest of them, especially the last one.
Picking flowers is extremely useful to have infinite poop.
Use lightbulbs instead, faster, more resource efficient, easier.

Honestly, if you find a bunch of bees and a couple of flowers, flowers are generally infinite, some might argue that you won't have honey, that what the bee boxes are for, take out some nests, make some bee boxes and boom infinite honey, unlike bee nests, these are renewable,and somewhat more efficient.
Nobody wants to fight deerclops with a spear.
Being spooked of having no sanity is normal, your screen turns white you can hear whispers, if it isn't scary, it's annoying to hear and sound is quite important in this game so turning it off might be an option,

I know that every Don’t starve player does things differently but there are a few things I have to disagree with
1. The idea that winter items aren’t worth the resources is absurd by using the Beefalo Hat which you claimed to be a waste of resources you could make it through more than half the day of winter without a thermal stone
2. While collecting flowers does reduce the amount of butterflies that spawn they aren’t your best healing method and using flowers to restore sanity isn’t very effective either
It is best to collect flowers so that they can rot in your inventory there they can be used as fertilizer for your berry and grass farms which are necessary for your survival in the game
3.opening up sinkholes is something you want to do since every sinkhole in your world leads to a completely different cave which allows you to get even more resources.
4. While the shadow sword is a very good weapon the ham bat is the better way to go, not only do you not loose sanity but you have a weapon that has infinite durability and while it does rot over time the weapon is EXTREMELY cheap to make due to the fact that it only uses meat and pig skins
Despite these things I do agree with most of the other things in the video so, good job 👍

Number 0: starting a world in autumn or spring is a terrible idea. You can get cactus flowers in summer and get the macktusk drops in winter so the best strat is obviously to start in summer or winter.

3. Fear of playing the "pro characters". The charcters only 0.003% of humans can master. Like Wendy, Wes, Woodie or Willow.

It's better due to nightmare creatures dropping extremely valuable loot (nightmare fuel) which can be used to make the best weapons and armor in the game, and many, many other things.

I do all of these things in don’t starve except for running from deerclops, opening sinkholes, destroying stuff I can’t destroy or use again, and using only backpacks because I usually play as Webber so I normally have a lot of spiders to help me
and then you bloody realize that you actually can plant flowers with buterflies, make a top hat and leave it at 1% for prehistirator, and that nightmres will kill you while u hit deerclops because of sanity drain

Just one little tiny person's input ... I want to say thank you, first, for some of your helpful tips, but I have to tell you something I hope you take a little to heart ... I kind of crashed after I watched a few of your videos. I was having a lot of fun playing DST but wanted to take it to the next level and learn new skills. Cue your videos. I'm definitely more PVE/Base-building/Resource-mining/crafting type player than someone who's interested in fighting the Big Baddies of a game world. Your rather sour tone about players EXACTLY like me who enjoy all the things you call "mistakes" knocked the wind out of me a bit. It made this game feel like maybe it wasn't for me after all.
The thing is ... your videos are really helpful on lots of topics but I say this warmly, a light touch to your arm, a fuzzy little smile, but maybe give some thought about at least acknowledging that not everyone is good at the same things or has the same objectives. I TRIED to start over following your advice but it was a misery campaign lol ... i'm NOT good enough. It stripped away all the joy of escaping to a world with resources and small gains that can be achieved.
TL;DR: Thank you for your hard work making videos - please consider softening your tone a little?

Actually, do pick flowers (if you are either Wilson or Willow), Cause it boosts your sanity. Now, if you are starving, then, you might as well wait for some butterflies.....
Sanity is best left at a mid state so you can easily go insane, and still good to leave empty since insanity = nightmare fuel. Nightmare fuel can be used to get the best items in the game such as dark swords, night armor, and several other items. As such, low sanity is good. I usually stay at around 20% sanity where 15% puts you insane, so you constantly go insane then get out of it by killing a nightmare creature. Sanity shouldn't be left up high as in the only places you want to be sane (caves/ruins, bosses) you will quickly go insane anyway.
I made this comment a month ago, and i wasn't really thinking straight, first of all, and second of all, i was still rather new. I didn't know waaaaaay too much, and i didn't know how useful being insane was. Thanks anyways, i completely forgot you could make shadow armor :P

Ok, so I have a disagreement
1-if you want to stay sane-in early game-, picking flowers is the best thing to do. It's very fast and especially quick when you find areas of flowers
2-you should craft a top hat for the prestihatinator
3-most people going underground get to scared of being killed killed, but that's mainly because they try it early game

I would say maybe. Play how you want. If you feel like it's enough, you can stop anytime. If you feel you need more, get more. Like I said, it's your game, play how you want.
making a top hat is useful because you need it for for the hat machine (i forgot the name so i just call it hat machine) also you should make winter gear because staying just above freezing is not good cause the fashion melon can rot and if you are relying on it then you would die very fast. and with not picking flowers, you shouldn't pick them unless you don't want to go insane. you shouldn't always be insane like this person is telling you because that makes things way more difficult. just let yourself get insane when you need nightmare fuel then grab some flowers to out of insanity or eat things that boost sanity such as cooked green caps, cooked cactus flesh, etc. the only good tips i really see on here is fighting dearclops and using armor in body slot. but even with dearclops if you are a new player and wasn't prepared for the fight then just run from it and keep playing and have fun. then once you learn more stuff and get better if you do another game which most players do to have even more fun you can get prepared again. most of these tips are for people experienced in the game and are able to risk everything. if you want good tips on everything i would recommend the beard 777 and James bucket because they both make videos on individual things and have way more detail and give better tips than this guy.
