Cesar’s death is simply one of the most majestic shot I have ever seen in a movie. The lighting, the tree behind him, Maurice standing next to him and reaching for his leaning body as he slowly fades into oblivion... it looks like a wonderful and beautiful Gauguin painting celebrating the death of a king, so many vibes that brings back a religious or spiritual freedom. It is simply beautiful, the perfect ending for this story. Never saw a trilogy ending so well. Edit after YEARS: Glad to see this comment got over a hundred likes, thank you all so much! Would like to point out something else I just caught while rewatching this wonderful trilogy: all the movies ends with Cesar’s staring at something, is a recurring theme, in his eyes we can see pure intelligence, we recognize a being that for his purity and determination reveal to be even more human than we are. But have we ever focused on what is he staring at? At the end of the first movie he’s witnessing his new home, surrounded by his brothers and sisters, although he does look kind of concerned, because Cesar knows that they are not truly free, humans are still near, strong and probably going to come back at them. By the end of the second movie this change: Cesar is ready for war, he knows that he will have to lead his people in a bloodbath and that he will loose many, but he’s not afraid anymore. That long, powerful stare toward the camera is not a stare of simple determination: Cesar’s looking at us, the audience, the humans. He’s accepting the challenge that will come and will stop at nothing, and his eyes in that scene are more human than ever. And then we get here, to this wonderful, beautiful scene at 1:50. Cesar’s looking at his people, who are finally happy, free, playing and laughing in their new home. No humans, no fear of enemy, no weapons. Everything from the sky to the ground is peaceful and Cesar’s final stare to the screen, to his people, to US watchers, is accompanied by a tired yet peaceful smile. Cesar’s at peace. No matter the war, no matter the pain and the people he lost, he’s at peace. And isn’t that what makes a true human? Someone that despite sacrifices and pain in the end only wants to see his family and friends one last time. And that is the last thing Cesar sees. This trilogy has many recurring themes that goes from racism to animal abuse to war and so on and so on, and most people seems to always concentrate around the growth of Cesar from outcast to king. But I think this movie is about humanity in his pure way. Without humanity we are just like apes, mindless animals that lives to satisfy desires and emotions. Intelligence is what makes us what we are cause it gives us the power to control those emotions, it makes us see what could be right and what could be wrong. Cesar’s journey is a journey to fully become the purest form of human: a flawed being that despite all the pain will do anything to save his own people, even when he doesn’t truly know them. This makes him one of the most well written character of cinema, cause never a character transformation could be considered as literal as metaforica as this one. Thank you all for reading this!
I never see people talking about how Caesar is literally a prophetic figure, specifically Moses. In this movie, he frees his people from slavery and dies atop a hill overlooking the promised land of his people. He’s literally ape Moses
Which in context of movie history is hilarious, seeing how the most famous portrayal of Moses was by Charlton Heston...who also went on to star in the first ever Planet of the Apes movie.
@@susianna7840 I heard they are planning to make new plabwt of the apes new flim with under wes ball as the new director now i think they might start continue where matt reeves as started as cornelius knowing what is father did he might take over the next king after caesar dies
His death started the time where apes act cruel to human, caesar was the only apes to lives alongside human therefore he's the only apes who knows that humans and apes are the same.
that pov shot at 1:54 is so moving, epic and beautiful, looking at the world through Caesar's eyes, the last thing he ever saw, apes happy and playing, he can die in peace and die knowing he saved all of them including his son. Knowing that there will be generations. He can die with that... being his last sight and thought. Incredibly moving and perfect ending for Caesar's story.
Watched this trilogy with my girlfriend for the first time the other day (first for her, about the 4th time for me). She cried multiple times during each movie. I personally don't cry watching movies, but watching these is as close as I'll ever get. Such an emotional story. Brilliant trilogy that is so rewatchable. I wish we could see more, but I know the story has already been told perfectly, and it ended just as perfect.
Y’all notice Ceaser has changed ALOT! He even looks different physically, for obvious reasons and his character development was really cool. Awesome trilogy.
In the Bible Moses is on a mountain, and from it he observes the landscape of the Promised Land that the Children of Israel who came out of slavery would receive, just like Caesar, who is on a hill overlooking the landscape. And the posture in which he dies reminds me of some representations of the Death of Jesus lying next to his mother.
The cinematography of this film is also very underrated and amplifies the story and emotion so well. The slow-fade transition at 2:40 is so gorgeous to me. The image of Caesar, resting peacefully, juxtaposed with his people celebrating the freedom he died to give them. As if to say, “this was Caesar’s purpose, this is his legacy.” I wish people talked about Michael Seresin’s fantastic work on this film more.
@Joseph Hernandez like I said the comment was made 4 months ago and that joke was still relevant at that time. That's why I used it then and I wouldn't use it now.
The way Caesar’s story grew and ended within this trilogy is truly amazing. I would’ve loved it if they had kept him alive. But his story had a good ending here. And now that there’s a new Planet of the Apes movie coming out to follow this one, I can only hope that it will follow his son, Cornelius, growing up and doing his best to follow in his father’s footsteps as the new leader of the Apes. And that they will try and make sure that his father’s legend lives on. Legend Of The Planet Of The Apes. 😂😂
@@babyrival4304 well so far, it hasn’t been titled and production on it has somewhat halted. And as to when it’ll come out, idk that either. But I’m writing a Fanfiction sequel to War that follows Cornelius as the new leader of the Apes. Trying to show respect for Caeser
I love the Moses symbolism Ceasar embodies, frees his people from slavery, protects them, leads them, and dies fulfilled right on the edge of the promised land.
Let this masterpiece of a trilogy remain underrated. Those that know about it know how truly great it is. Truly awesome achievement and this scene is perfect.
I love the detail the Maurice starts to do a low long call out of sadness after Caesar dies to tell the other apes what has happened how you see them all start to stop and look
This was the first time I’ve ever actually cried over a character, let alone a movie. I’ve had my fair share of tears shed but this just hit so hard that I cried like it was an actual real life death, like a family member passed away. Caesar may you rest in peace, it’s so hard for me but I want to be like this; a leader, who puts others before his own needs, and saves those and has hope no matter what the odds are. Can’t believe I’m saying this but I want to be like this ape. Loved every single movie
If you were forced to kill your former best friend of 10 years, had your wife and child killed, suffered from PTSD and probable paranoia from all the years of having to be wary of enemies, would you want to continue living once nobody else needed you to save them anymore? Caesar dying here although a bit implausible after weeks of having the wound makes a lot of sense in terms of plot. Not to mention it's a great point for the next trilogy to follow on from. I really hope that the old Planet of the Apes films aren't canon in this timeline because that would completely ruin Caesar's character development and the entire point of the trilogy.
Can we please take in. That through this entire movie. Through his son and wife's death and seeing his fellow apes being tortured. He didn't let off a single tear until the very end. Now that's a legend.
Before dying, Caesar saw the apes for the last time, he was proud of what they had achieved and that now they were saved, so that he could die in peace. (This scene broke my heart 💔🥺) 💚You will always be in our hearts Caesar💚
The most beautiful ending scene ive ever seen. The chief died like a flower coming back to the earth. He left knowing that his son is okay n new generations are safe. Nothing better than witnessing happiness and freedom before dying. No need for words. The chief eyes and face's expressions made this scene a work of art. Amazing.
True leader never think of himself. Even when he is in his last time, he still care about people who become his responsbility. Great movie, great director, great team!
2:54 you can see rocket stand up and quickly make his way over to Ceaser, love that detail, bro started as a foe and became Ceasers right hand man, loyal to a fault, so of course besides Maurice who was by his side, it’s nice seeing that rocket was the first to notice Ceasers passing
Caesar lost his mother due to her protecting him with her own life, Caesar lost his own human father and human family to the Simian Flu outbreak, Caesar had to put down his own sworn brother he thought could be trusted, and now, Caesar lost his wife and eldest son to a militia solder. But at the end, he did helped protect his own kind from war and helped to make sure his youngest son live again to see his future growing up. And he smiled as he finally completed his goal till his last breath before his sights vanquished. Gotta say, props to the trilogy for creating such a wonderful protagonist we can enjoy seeing and admire from.
After they said Kingdom takes place 300 years after War It's very sad especially knowing that Maurice, Rocket, Lake, Bad Ape, Cornelius are all long dead as well 😭
It's a trilogy that deserves respect. Knowing that their tribe survived and thrived is enough to assume rocket and Maruice did their best to make the tribe flourish.. now we see their descendents stories. Tbh. 300 years is long.. I'm actually freaking surprised that a human with intelligence actually exist as we pretty much know the virus would make everyone loose their intelligence dinner or latter.
He lost everything he loved but still fought for everything and for everyone. Caesar came a long way, Watching his demise was painful and heartbreaking
At the end you will see Rocket who is really concerned and the first one to check what is going on when Maurice mourned (?) On the first movie Rocket bullied Caesar, but now you see how loyal Rocket is. He even went to Colonel's base to find a way to help Caesar. Forgive my grammar 😅

Damn!

That was deep excellent analysis
Maurice's sob at 2:17 is so heartbreaking. Great voice acting right there.
One of my greatest mistakes of my life is not watching this masterpiece of a trilogy in theaters

I love this movie. I really do wish Ceasar didn't die. He was so sweet
Same
I didn't even know he died. The scene before this one got to me where Donkey dies.
I wish the same thing but I think it's time he passed away, because he lost his son, getting shot and old age. That's enough to make Caesar suffer.
Angel Reyes chimps don’t live to be that old bud they not humans
His death started the time where apes act cruel to human, caesar was the only apes to lives alongside human therefore he's the only apes who knows that humans and apes are the same.
Caesar and Maurice's friendship is better than 95% of modern movie franchises, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in a movie.
Now this is how you perfectly write off an encapsulating character in an emotional way. Truly an underrated masterpiece of a trilogy!
The silence of the apes just shows how much he was loved and respected, He was not only their king, He was their father and their saviour.
that pov shot at 1:54 is so moving, epic and beautiful, looking at the world through Caesar's eyes, the last thing he ever saw, apes happy and playing, he can die in peace and die knowing he saved all of them including his son.

Primal Effect Alternate Ending
Y’all notice Ceaser has changed ALOT! He even looks different physically, for obvious reasons and his character development was really cool. Awesome trilogy.
Ceasar has one of the most amazing character developments
he sound so human
Cesar was like Moses, he saved his people and guided them to the Promised Land.
And obviously like Julius Caesar who brought glory to his own little empire of apes
The entire last movie is basically Ten Commandments told from the viewpoint of the apes. Even the creators of the movie accepted it.
@@pradman81 The whole trilogy is an allegory of Moses.
And even the Wound in the side being pierced by an arrow resembles the wound made in Christ's side with the spear
Caesar died with Maurice's supervision and Rocket was the first to notice out of the hundred of apes... true men of Caesar.
He's right hand men...loyal and brave and with him to the end. A fitting last moment for a wonderful man (ape)
Caesar is definitely one of the most beautifully developed characters in cinema history. In my opinion his death in this scene was the most graceful.
fact, tbh , from his beginning to the end , we grew to love him, also ape are so much cutter than humans
The trilogy did a good job in creating an Ape Messiah
He was more like a Moses figure then a Messiah, this movie is showing that God's people will make it back to the promise land one day

I love how the trilogy respects Caesar‘s character so much that they physically showed him gently laying to rest
R.I.P Caesar 2011-2017
😭
If we count the movie timeline it's
2030
7 years in rise
10 in dawn
2 years in war
Begin at 2011
The way Caesar’s story grew and ended within this trilogy is truly amazing. 😂😂
What is that movie called that will come out?
@@babyrival4304 well so far, it hasn’t been titled and production on it has somewhat halted. And as to when it’ll come out, idk that either. But I’m writing a Fanfiction sequel to War that follows Cornelius as the new leader of the Apes.

Watching this in 7th grade and finishing it off in college... damn did I grow up with this trilogy
I still cry every time I watch this scene
I cried too like literally weeping
He was walking for hours or days after he was shot why didn’t he tell anyone he could’ve been saved 😭
na he was done, apes free, now he's joining his family in heaven, sad but perfect ending
That was the only way the war would end. If Caesar was dead
Because his soul can't rest until for sure his species are safe and free, now that it happened he can now rest in peace
As much as it pains me to say it he had to die, in a way it symbolizes the end of an era and to see what will happen in the future.
Can we please take in. That through this entire movie. Through his son and wife's death and seeing his fellow apes being tortured. He didn't let off a single tear until the very end.
Now that's a legend.
To see Maurice so emotional was so sad because he lost not only his best friend but his brother
Before dying, Caesar saw the apes for the last time, he was proud of what they had achieved and that now they were saved, so that he could die in peace.
(This scene broke my heart 💔🥺) 💚You will always be in our hearts Caesar💚

Caesar lost his mother due to her protecting him with her own life, Caesar lost his own human father and human family to the Simian Flu outbreak, Caesar had to put down his own sworn brother he thought could be trusted, and now, Caesar lost his wife and eldest son to a militia solder. But at the end, he did helped protect his own kind from war and helped to make sure his youngest son live again to see his future growing up. And he smiled as he finally completed his goal till his last breath before his sights vanquished. After they said Kingdom takes place 300 years after War
It's very sad especially knowing that Maurice, Rocket, Lake, Bad Ape, Cornelius are all long dead as well 😭
It's a trilogy that deserves respect.

If this is what Matt Reeves can do, than Batman is in good hands.
I had never cried in theatres before until this scene. Caesar was truly a hero
At the end you will see Rocket who is really concerned and the first one to check what is going on when Maurice mourned (?)
On the first movie Rocket bullied Caesar, but now you see how loyal Rocket is. He even went to Colonel's base to find a way to help Caesar.
Forgive my grammar 😅
Caesar was only like 19 years old by the time he died. What a legend
this scene is one of the saddest scenes ever. the moment maurice realizes that his time is up, him speaking, the fact that the sunset wasn't a drawing like at their old playground, it was real. the apes playing with nova, the look on caesar's face knowing that he can rest peacefully now that his apes are saved. i cried an entire river at 2am last night watching this. caesar was everything 🤍
