It was like a knife through some still cold butter. It's no Mewtwo or Alolan Ninetales/Raichu but still decent. It fits right in with the other Emerald legendaries!
Slaking proving it's a real1 in this run. I got so excited when I saw the upload and I'm glad slaking lived up to my expectations. I love your content and these cross gen runs are especially fun to watch.
Awesome how you can modify the game and incorporate some modern moves & later gen pokemon! Breaks up the monotony in an otherwise limited game, looking forward to future content!
Nice. I got a ton of made ROMs. I used to do them on another program in 2021 but it was stale and not customizable so I took matters into my own hands.
Slaking-level extinction event 🚨 Hope to see Regigigas at some point in the future. It'll definitely be interesting to see how the two compare since they're fairly similar on the surface. Also, that backsprite is really nice!!
Thanks! I worked a lot on this one. Hammer Arm specifically was something I went mad trying to get to work right. That just means we'll get to psycho boost in the future. Regigigas will be at some point but I guess you'll have to finish the video because I don't want to get spoilery, but I think they'll be similar.
There’s a reason I extensively look through the anime for pronunciation these days. People are sticklers about it lol. See the original Kyogre video lol.

Goodra might be able to beat Mewtwo. Nearly the same special, good mixed stats, can brute force a lot of fights quickly with Outrage. It's a multi turn move, meaning you have less to click through and because it's neutral on almost everything, you skip the "It's super effective!" text box. White Kyurem has an even higher special, fantastic bulk and starts with Dragon Rage, meaning it could possibly also brute force a lot of fights. 120 Base Attack and access to Slash also lets it shred through the psychic types in the midgame.
I've had my eyes on Outrage Goodra for a while now actually! After the Haxorus run it's something I have written down but just haven't had a chance to get to it, mainly because back then cross gen runs were plummeting in views and I didn't want to use my free time just to feel bad lol.
The lazy Muppet gets his act together and beats face, that's what. Cool back sprite. :D I've played Gen 3 the least, but I like the concept of Slaking being incredibly strong, only nerfed by skipping every other turn. That Saffron speed skip was also cool to learn, I would've never considered that proc of getting the city as a Fly spot. With the bronze medal for cross-gen runs, I'd say this dad bod sloth has been proven to be a #realone.
It was pretty good. That Mewtwo bar is set pretty high! There's also a ton of little things like that I try to pick over in every video. They are things that most people don't think about but overworld movement, item management, and being efficient with fly add up to mean almost as much as the route itself.
Skips, flopping on every pokemon in the SS Ann, sinking it and swimming with red standing on his back while Sruge has war flash backs causing him to throw the badge blocking the walkway with a sudowoodo running to lock his gym, was an amazing thought that must be a video on TH-cam comment section if you make it happen I got you on your comment section, bet
Man, I think that things been gone for the better part of a year. I'm trying to be concise, lessen the workload, and just make a better overall video. Analytics said it had to go!
#realone. I do have a slaking story. Might be boring for you but I have a save file for black and white and I have a team with slaking and a pokemon that can suppress his ability. I don't remember if it even worked that well but I remember thinking slakings stats were nuts. Cool run! Love the content thanks GLM!
so if you went for one more levvel instead, would the hammer arm/brock situation change? I definitely understand your reasoning on that segment, but maybe I'm just a reckless individual. I'd have brute forced the scenario.
It just came from several tests. I tried early and I guess technically you could just reset the whole run over and over until it gets passed but it's a HIGH chance to fail. I'd like to at least be able to consistently get a battle started but lots of great Pokemon gotta pick up optionals early.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987ahh! okay! there's no real substitute for just trying things out. the extra speed so you get in before the potential bide on turn 1 against onyxx didn't help?
It was a speed tie, that’s why I went for the less risky punishment opening and it worked out. Hammer Arm can’t one shot and I got a crit to take him down there but you have to soften it up a little. The extra levels also push you to damage rounding to get to mega punch a little faster. I tested alot and did 4 full runs on top of that. This was the only feasible way to get sub 2 hours that I saw.
Real one, I was so worried that the time will be over 2 hours, but 1hr 58mins, thats good enough. Mewtwo is just too dominating and expected Slaking will not beat the Mewtwo time
That's why I did 4 runs. I couldn't get this one below 2 hours the first 3 times but was happy with this one. I'm convinced outside of the blizzard mishap this is about as fast as it gets.
You got Hammer Arm working right! Hm... that might put things like Leaf Storm, Overheat, Draco Meteor, Psycho Boost, and Fleur Cannon on the table for cross-gen examination.
Oh yea. It puts me in a position to do whatever move at this point. It might take a while to get to something but my original thoughts were with Slaking and I held off to get it right but Psycho Boost is looking pretty good!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I'm looking at pokemon that naturally learns these moves right now, lol. So far, Leaf Storm users have some potential. Decidueye in particular (using its Gen 7-8 learnset) stands out because it starts with this move, has a respectable Attack _and_ Special Attack stat, and a secondary Ghost typing to abuse its physical STAB with. (Not to mention Swords Dance by TM...) Also, Sceptile could be an interesting case too, using its OR/AS or Gen 7 learnset, and also has the added benefit of having an over-20% chance of straight up ignoring those statdrops. Both of these pokemon also come with Medium-Slow growth rate, for what its worth. The problem I see is, bare minimum, two-fold. Leaf Storm has a 90% accuracy, and you and I both know if it isn't 100%, it's 55%. The second problem I can see is Leaf Storm lowers your *_combined_* special stat. It won't come to play against Brock or Misty, but Lorelei might be a problem if you're relying on Leaf Storm.
Yea it’s tough to play around any of main stat lowering moves. I think something that lowers defenses would be the strongest. I’m not sure any major special or attack dropping moves will make it to the end game but it’s impossible to tell unless I’m testing.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Yeah, to me, attack/special-dropping moves only have value if the pokemon has solid mixed attacking stats. The two pokemon I singled out has decently solid offensive stats on both fronts, so they can handle a leaf storm demerit, but like I noted, their defenses will suffer. It's a double-edged sword and likely might end up being replaced once either pokemon learn Swords Dance or some boosting move, but as you said, can't really tell unless its put into practice.
Real one, because Slaking is unreal! I wonder how much time Slash and Play Rough from the BSDP learnset could shave off to make the early game even more dominant.
Man, I didn't really look at BDSP because it's BDSP but it does have slash. I might have to do a stream sometime in the future. I don't think it would push it to the very top but at least maybe to 2.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987lets go is weird cause if you use the starter and those candys from hacking mons its easy. Tho if you don't its got a nice challenge to it. Tho yeah that Tbolt killed my Aloan Geodude and double kick stomped my aloan raticate. Kadbra was also just not bulky enough to really take on rachiu either
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 oh i meant catching, like the little stat boosters. I avoid um cause the boosts are a little crazy. Lets go, even without them isnt hard enough to hack stuff in LMAO (sorry im a bad typer sometimes)
Every time I remember Slaking in Generation I I think about an old Smogon article about bad Pokemon in Gen I, and how good Slaking would be competitively. This always fakes me out into thinking it learns Slash outside of Egg moves XD. Sadly Slash is Egg Move only but one of these days I want to do that run myself, just to see the sheer raw power that Slaking's Slash would have to its back. This was still a super good run though. I know a lot of people want to see Regigigas in all of its glory, but you know what I want to see? I want to see the true titan among the golems. I want to see the Chansey rule stretched to its absolute limit. I want to see that 200 Special with Amnesia and BoltBeam. Will 50 base Speed hold it in check? Who knows, but I really want to see Regice tear through this game. As always, real one.
Hmm, it learns both of those? Goodra is also a good candidate. Umbreon too but I did a Sanqui knock off version and it wasn’t great but I got to do the Crystal version one soon.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Yeah Regice gets Amnesia and Ice Beam via level-up and Thunderbolt via TM, with Ice Beam being at Level 24 and Amnesia at Level 36.
36 is a little late but it could be solid. It might be a while before I get to it though. I try to do the cross gen runs more sparingly since the summer and not ‘force’ myself to do much since it’s just a hobby and burnout is a bitch.
Pleased to see that Alolan ninetails beat Mewtwo -- for some reason I'm gravitating towards Vulpix and Ninetails being my favorite pokemon (yeah, the bog standard versions aren't super good, but I like an underdog story, and LOVE the astetics of thos guys). Though Alolan Ninetails was to be expected in the end due to an extremely good typing plus excellent initial movelist and overall excellent learn set.
Yea it’s hard to get over the Mewtwo bar. It’s slow leveling group holds it back but for a vanilla run, hardly anything past, future, or present can get can get close.
Oh yea. I used to use Sanqui and I’m the one he learned about it from but the big difference to me is that Sanqui just isn’t really gen 1. I started making my own to get a real apples to apples comparison because Sanqui updates types/stats/moves that it’s not really Pokémon red anymore and almost a different game. It’s also designed to be a randomizer so there’s no attention to detail for single mon runs so no signature moves of that nature. Enjoy! I’ve been doing this since 2021, got a ton of made cross gen runs and Sanqui.
It would be a great Pokemon and Regi GIGAS WOULD actually be playable the OTHER 3 Regi's would be impossible since in Gen 1 those 3 would I believe ONLY start with Explosion and nothing else.
Nice video! Do you have it set up so the borders on the video read the RAM and update the current stat buffs etc.? Or that's too complicated and you just add it in manually?
No way I’d recommend anyone do it manually lol. It just reads the RAM. There’s some code and mathing involved like showing the badge boosts like after Brock when I’m in the overworld or with the effective power taking into account type effectiveness/stab.

Real one. Man crasy how much of a giga chad surge is in lets go. "Well if you don't spam stat candys" he was annoying in my recent replay
I played Let's Go once and I can't say I remember much about him lol. I just remember my Eevee beating everyone.
I had fun with it. I can’t say I know anything about hacking candies or why you’d need to haha.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 oh i meant catching, like the little stat boosters. I avoid um cause the boosts are a little crazy. Lets go, even without them isnt hard enough to hack stuff in LMAO (sorry im a bad typer sometimes)
Vitamins?
Slacking dont be lacking lmao. Sorry brother, I am abroad and usually watch your videos on tv so no chance to comment. Still here though!!!
All good! Videos are forever!
Though Alolan Ninetails was to be expected in the end due to an extremely good typing plus excellent initial movelist and overall excellent learn set.
right now looks the only only one who did (baring Slow King doing super well -- which, right now, after Brock, seems like a REAL possibility)
Yea it’s hard to get over the Mewtwo bar. It’s slow leveling group holds it back but for a vanilla run, hardly anything past, future, or present can get can get close.
Dudley theme now?? Nice!!
I use it every stream!
Blastoise saw thunderbolt and all the fight he had left his soul...all the real ones pay respect to Blastoise for taking a thunderbolt to the dome 🙏
Ha, as if it had a choice. I could tell it wanted to hit a freeze proc.
can u do venomoth for red, crystal, emerald, and the other games if possible :o
Yea, I'll do 47 Venomoth playthroughs next week.
I just saw dwund016 gen 1 slaking run and now I get to watch another one in the same week 🎉
Nah, they got some different learnsets in other generations. Regigigas would be good but about the same I feel.
I wasn't sure since in their original games Regi Rock/ice start at lv 30 but only started with Explode and nothing else.
Yea they aren’t possible in gen 3 but viable in other gens.
Top-Tier back sprite.
Appreciate that, brother.
Who's your favourite Gen1 Gym leader?
I'm not sure I have a favorite but hardest? Brock for sure.
Nice video!
Appreciate it, brother.
