Dont know if you still have this bike but, the choke tension is adjustable on most bikes. You just tighten the top where the rubber boot is, it will hold the choke open then. Just use your fingers.
Thanks for making the video. I have the exact same bike with only 1,596 miles. I recently took it all down to refurbish as stuff still goes bad sitting for so long. Redid the brakes, fuel system, carb etc I'm using your video to make sure I have everything back in the same place. Now that I'm retired I do plan to ride it quite often. Thanks again Great looking bike
Thanks will do. Don't know if there's a secret to removing and installing the air box but that task is a real character builder. Hope to fire it up this weekend 🤞@@mph6502
Great video. I have the 1992! One thing I did was change the carb to a flatside Mikuni and everything was AWESOME. Starts 1st kick, stays idling from the start without having choke on (don't even need choke really), will stay running on its side, and when dropped at running temps starts right back up. Before switching to the new carb I'd have to kick the living shit out of it to start it again. Always started, but took so long.....
@@johnfowler6189 I bought the carb from XR's only. It's the Mikuni Flatside Carb 32mm kit. Comes with three jets for adjustment. I used the smallest one and think I need one more even smaller. That said you WILL notice the difference. It wants to eat and you can tip it without a stall or 1000 kicks to restart. Your MPG however will likely shrink. Good luck!
that was happening to us an took carb out blew air on all the jets, specialy the accelerator diafrsm, and all now works realy good, now is running reach so we have to lean it a bit, but it has power.

Cool thanks! I will check that out!
I have the same bike. Running Kenda track masters. Run mostly off road. So reliable. Never let me down.

Let me know if there's anything in particular you need to see.

@johnfowler6189 Air box is definitely a pain. I remember removing it once and it was tricky.

I've heard of changing the carb out for a flatslide, may consider that in the future.
My 91 has the same problem. Did you use the type of carb they used on the off road 250R?
Mikuni Flatside Carb 32mm@@Piggypongtheavgeek
Do you have a source for that mikuni? Model # etc. I would love to switch carbs. I have the PD9E carb and parts for it are extremely hard to find

There's one at my work that i just tried to start today. I'm about to do some work on it to get it running. 91 honda xr250l
I have this bike. I use a close pin to hold the choke halfway open while it warms up. It takes about 15 minutes.
That's are really good idea, I'll have to give it a try.

From 1986 to 1995... 10 consecutive years the same XR ... The XLR I think it went further.
Do you mind me asking how much you paid?
I paid $1300 for it around 1999.
