Is that bike street legal? I noticed the tag on back fender. I had a Xr250l same year and I loved it ! I bought brand new from the dealer for like 3,800 bucks and I wish like hell I kept it. But I was young and stupid and had a set of twins on the way and sold it. And now I'd give my left arm to have it back. The new ones are too expensive and can't find any around here for sale!
Nice bike man. You’re so right: you can’t kill this bike and you can tell anything bad from this bike, just change oil and filter regularly. I have one in same conditions like yours, it’s a 93 and I’m the only owner it had. For me definitely the best bike made ever... Simply, reliable and easy to maintain.
Had my 2004 xr250 for sale and had someone ready to buy it so I gave it a oil change and carb rebuild and after working on her I just couldn’t sell it so I’m keeping it and making it street legal.
@@markreiber4457 not at all, rebuilt the carburetor prior to riding season, that really helped. Each time I start, I make sure I am at TDC, then one kick and it starts. My one hard start was after dumping the bike, I just used the decompression lever and kicked it through 4-5 times, then it fired.
Haha, it was 35 years ago I had my first 1988 XR200RJ, in 91 had an 85 XR600RF, my son 17 now, I got an 03 XR 250 for him, a 2012 KTM 350 EXCF for myself. Given my age, and need a hip replacement lol, I adore the little XR. 30+ years and I truly forgot how much I loved riding! Saw that 30 years comment bro n had to throw my 2 cents in. Just want a slip on exhaust n barkbusters and with the DRC wide foot pegs (a must over the skinny as heck original pegs!) she'll be perfect. Had fresh top end rebuild, all seals n bearings top to bottom, front to back, replaced. These bikes are gems. Shot dude, love it 🙏🏼❤️
I've had countless honda xr n xl bikes thru out my life starting with a Honda xl80 back in 1985 I was 15yrs old..now I have the Xr650L..it's a torque n wheelie beast...
Never say you will sell it, that is the holy grail of dirt bikes. I gor me self 2 250l and man, it is the antidote to day off stress. 30 min in the trail and you come back young again as long as you dont look at the mirror, lol 69 now and thw tis my youth machine. I love my XRs. Planning to get an 250r. Is hard now and no parts so i have someone make them or find them for me. Second fsvor thing is rebuilding them to brand new status.
I can relate to that, fixing old bikes to be like new again, or at least trail worthy. I have an '84 XR250 myself, and I am currently getting engine problems sorted out. I have this, and an '86 TLR200 Reflex trials bike, and fixed it up as well.
i own an xr250r baja with a metal tank from 1996 with e/start here in the uk,great bikes for the money but very rare now over here,i done my 1st bike vlog on it the other day,it ended with a rear puncture, great vid fella get well soon,
Iv owned couple of them probably since 1984 iv owned 180 bikes lol best funest bike i ever owned was a 1984 yamaha IT 250 i had one in 1992 awsome bike comfortable to ride yamahas version of a kdx had botyom end come up in all 6 gears lol
I still ride my both 86 and 89 xr 250r's daily ...never a problem...just beat them silly and they laugh back at me...never break, never leak, never talk back...the best bikes ever made for the woods...
Sweet bike man. The XR sound is by far the best. i am picking up a xr250 i believe it to be same year as yours. And i have the 96 xr600r. Some mean machines
Just just purchase an XR 250,, a good racer owned it he has hundreds of trophies he had the engine overhauled bored out it is a beast. It could be more than I can handle. Thinking about putting it on the marketplace 3000 firm a new Honda would run you close to 12 k it's like a new motor it's a beast
just bought a 91 at a garage sale for 150.00 it has been beat but still in good shape rebuilding the motor now due to the guy letting it sit outside with the carb removed but its cheap to rebuild.
Love it dude! I'm the same way - I have it's twin sister the XR250L. it's got 16k miles on it and runs just like when i bought with 6k miles. Keep it or sell it to me
Had a 86” XL250R with 1700 miles and man that this was clean. Dual carb, 4 valve. Heavy as shit but fun as hell on road and not technical woods riding. Miss it. Might look for a “97-98” XR250L and ride the crap out of it. Just a old B hare scramble guy 🫡
I beat the living piss out of mine and I change the oil every 10hrs it's great man only smoke when I cold start in the winter and it's still a one kick bike
We have 250l and man we treat them like jewels, it turns head evwry where we go, is like driving a star, ecxepr we hqve two, thqt we reatores to stick.
Yo i just got xr like yours the line is missing it comes out under the oil filter does it loop up and go into the oil filter or top motor i cant get diagram to show me
Ever want to see what these bikes can actually do.... watch this video....It was one of my early jump bikes....12 cars easily , xr 250 my idol bike.... but had to move up to the cr-500 for the over 15 cars...Utube me -------- Ron star Motorcycle Daredevil

People don't realise just how reliable they really are.
If ya want a bike that you can 100% trust will get you home these are the bikes for you

Great bikes, glad you kept it!
Same, with my mint 1981 XR250R
Hey man. Last year I bought a 92 XRL. Identical to yours. Perfect condition and 2200 miles. It was an absolute find and can’t bring myself to sell it.
Keep it forever! Great bike!
This bike looks identical to my XR250L though it doesn't have the oil cooler it would be nice to get that modded on
I just bought a 2004 XR250R, first bike after thirty years of not riding, love it.
I'm buying one tomorrow, but have you had any problems starting it after riding it hard
