  • For many people their journey begins at the beach, not all of us have boats. Fortunately many great locations are accessible by land and the overall experience is often very rewarding.
Knowledge of areas is paramount to your spearfishing success, knowing where to go is both a science and an art. The difference between getting skunked or slaying can be very dependent on where you dive.
Finding great areas will usually require some persistence on your end as these spots are not readily disclosed. Maps and charts are excellent tools but to verify a spot you must see for your self.
Even a great area will have its off days, sometimes the oceans bounty seems unimaginable, other days you can really struggle. This day I did not find the riches I had hoped but had a great time regardless.
This video is focused primarily on shore dive tips and techniques, the overall experience rather than fish behavior and hunting. You wont all ways find what you are looking for but you can always enjoy yourself regardless of the outcome. Enjoy the Ocean and Enjoy your Life, you never know when it is the last time so cherish every moment as you may never experience it again

Heavy days - hopefully summer conditions are around the corner. When I cruise to further out reefs I usually take a SUP or if its a long mission even my kayak with. I love the idea of being able to get out the water and on top of something if the big guy in a big Johnny pulls in.

Things will be ramping up from here on out! Those are great ideas, certainly worth considering. My preferred approach however is travel light and swim miles. I don't mind kicking around, I just want to cover as much ground as possible in the water. Kayaks certainly have thier place if your trying to get to a specific spot far offshore. But I'm just as interested in what lives just off the beach, could bear to paddle past. Unless vis was terrible lol. Thanks for the comment 🙏🌊

Dude what if you get cold 🥲

I pretty much always get cold eventually, unless it is peak summer lol. If I get to the point of uncontrollable shivering or not being able to safely operate my equipment, dives done wit. Proper equipment makes all the difference, right fit, right function. The majority of people in NZ spearfish south of here. I honestly am very impressed by some peoples ability to brave the southern most coastlines of our Ocean 🌊. But Im not sure that I physically could in winter, chilly water can be relaxing... For a time 😅🥶
