I was taught to stalk trout moving upstream rather than downstream in rivers. The rationale is that typically the trout will be facing upstream as they have the most resistance to the water facing into the current. It's also the direction they face as they watch for food etc being pushed down by the current. Trout have a blind spot when you approach them from behind. They can see well in front of them, and can see movement on the sides of the riverbanks through the clear water. I feel that you would have more success if you were moving upstream behind the trout/salmon, low on the riverbank casting up and dragging the lure back with the flow of the current.

Nice video. Makes me a little nostalgic and sad and one of many reasons that triggered me to move from the UK to Canada. If you ever travel to BC give me a shout and I will show you where you can fish almost any river for free, without the need for permission, club membership or beat fee, as long as you have a fishing license. Hint; September to December most rivers are full of salmon.
Honestly £700 for a premium beat is not expensive as you know because you bought it 😉. Anything in England offering a hint of salmon and sea trout can be upwards of £2,000 per rod often with a minimum 2 or 3 rods. It’s frightening how our hobby is being priced out by Corporate Entertainment now they’ve moved on from shooting. Nice clean river too! It's definitely not cheap, but there are plenty of golf courses that charge more for a year and that's not much different!
I may well take you up on that one day, stay in touch! I have family in vancouver. Thanks for watching!
How long was your permit for? Just that day?
For a full season mate!
Don’t see that too often in the U.K.
Great video and you fished it well, congratulations!
Paying to fish rivers is nuts
Brilliant video as always💯👌What spinner was you using for the salmon mate?
Thanks mate glad you liked it! I was using a mepps black fury spinner 👍
@@adventurefishinguk loved it mate, more salmon & trout fishing videos definitely👌n nice one mate I use black fury on my local but salmon not for having it😂
The wild (Native to me) brook trout. That's a fish that's more beautiful than the wild brownie! You should come to Appalachia some time and fly fish for those native brookies.
