Step 1: Push arrow all the way through.
Step 2: Apply pressure to stop the bleeding.
Step 3: Identify injury or damage type (poison?)
Step 4: Cauterize the wound with a hot iron
Step 5: Find an antidote ASAP if necessary

@@jemandjemand2362 is there a safer way to remove an arrow where the lung does not collapse? Or is getting shot in the back or chest cavity pretty much a death sentence?
It is not preferable to push the arrow through if you can avoid ripping out a chunk of flesh. Pushing it through can cause even more damage.
It actually depends on the arrowhead and location. Some, for example, you trace the wound track with feathers and use the spine of the feather over the barbs of the arrow then pull it out. Other arrows are designed to cut and fall out, usually hunting arrows. Some arrows you have to knife in and widen the wound channel to pull out.
To find antidote poison enemy with same poison this forces enemy to reveal antidote.
Xena didn't even give her anything to bite down on. Yikes!

I watched this scene as a kid and had brief trauma on an arrow after that lol. And I rewatched this episode 15 years later, it gets good

We all feel fear but we don't run otherwise they been nothing to protect. Funny story a friend was telling me that he was walking with his pregnant girlfriend and he heard a dog barking, without hesitation he ran towards his car leaving his pregnant wife to fend for herself. The car was only a few feet away and it turns out the dog was tied up but his pregnant girl must be proud of her man lol.

Some folklore had it to start the back end of the arrow on fire so when it gets pulled through the front it cauterized the wound..... and yes you would be feeling it a great deal
Another marvellous fight scene! Nothing is too much for Xena! On the basis that Xena is set in the ancient Greek world the Spartan unfortunately looks more like a Roman 😂

Poor little Texas, first she gets a turned ankle on the bad landing, her boot gets destroyed by Xena, and now she gets stung by a poison arrow. Its official, Little Texas is having a bad day.

pro tip don't push an arrow through if it hasn't got out the other side of the body, you will do way more damage and more likely kill the person. also don't break it off and cuase it to splinter leaving stuff behind in the body is a bad idea.

Just pulling the arrow out would do way much more damage, the arrowhead would tear apart the vitals causing death.

Would getting an arrow where Gabrielle was shot in this clip even be survivable? From what you described the way Xena handled removing the arrow should have killed Gabrielle. It's almost shocking to see Gabrielle up on a horse like nothing after this.

Sort of killing the point of the story of Gabriel surviving the poison in her wound.
