Yeah, pre builds will have some proprietary garbage design elements since they all source from the same couple of suppliers now. Lenovo being the least terrible among them. Lenovo still makes great laptops tho. I also like acer's laptop offerings. They cheap out on components to the point that all hardware in their entire laptop lineup are pretty much interchangeable with each other. As with any acer however, you will have to deal with their fondness for locked BIOS features in every product that isnt part of their "gaming" line.
also iBuyPower often uses proprietary motherboards now, which you wouldn't expect, but my friend bought a PC, the motherboard failed. we tried to update the BIOS, but oh no! the UEFI won't update.. why is this? oh iBuyPower has only released one UEFI file and it has the latest one..... welp guess we gotta replace the motherboard.
