Hope you’re enlisted by now. I started my process August. I’ve finished my CFAT and I’ve just booked medical for the 31st of Oct. so excited. The gears are turning!
Wow, things have really changed it seems since i was in. Most of my time in 2PPCLI was spent sweeping the lav barn, doing 100%s on kit that had been locked up since the last 100%, staring at a wall in the locker room waiting to be dismissed, lav maintenance/100%s, and parades. Training (IBTS, field exs, workup for astan) was a very small part of the job.
I was 2 RCR and I loved training in NB especially big live fires with the Americans it was insane. I was recon and I was so close I could feel the heat of the Napalm see the A10 rounds going over my head and watching 50 foot trees fly in the air from artillery then came the Cobra gun ships massive direct fire and cleaned up with 18 helicopter assault. Hey just curious after completing your DP1 in Meaford did you have a choice on which battalion you could join? I’m curious on what options there are for battalions in Ontario. Also how has the last 9 months of your life been since getting assigned to your battalion? I’m hoping that it involves a lot of variety in training and live fire exercises but I’ve seen quite a few negative people on forums talking about all they do is play cards, mop the floors and clean rifles that haven’t been fired in 2 years, is there any truth to that or just BS?
@@deltahd_265 During the final stages of my course we were able to put forward a memo which stated our top 3 picks for what battalion we wanted to go to, my course all got what battalion they asked for as their top pick. For Reg force in Ontario it's 1 RCR (mechanized) and 3 RCR (light Infantry) both are stationed in Petawawa. My 9 months in battalion have been pretty good! We've done a lot of live fire ranges, be it at a static range or a dynamic range where you assault a simulated enemy position, since we're mech it's usually beside a LAV which is also shooting. I've since been qualified as a LAV gunner which is a great position if you're into that sort of thing. I've made a lot of friends here, and I feel lucky as hell to be here, I feel lucky everyday. Although there have been lots of ranges and field time, yes, there is a lot of downtime but that time can be used by doing some dry training on your own or working on bettering your reports and returns, there's always time to improve your own soldiering skills, it's all on if you're willing to take the opportunity! And, usually if the guys are playing cards they get in trouble so I wouldn't recommend that! lol. Thanks for the questions, I'm sure if you decide to go for it you'll like it!
Every job in the combat arms is great. Just think about what seems the coolest to you: raining down hell with artillery, building and blowing things up with the engineers, rolling thunder with the tanks, or storming the trenches with the Infantry. Hey Josh! So I am about to do medical. In a few days. Coming in for MSE OPS. Pretty excited! Wondering what the rules are on filming stuff. I have a small channel. Trying to follow the process a bit if I can. Any input?
Use your discretion. I let people know what I'm doing it for and try to get consent to film them. A lot of people dont want me to film them or the situation isn't appropriate to do so (i.e., sensitive material / operations). I edit together a product and show it to my chain of command and get their approval. I also show it to as many people in the video as I can beforehand to make sure they are okay with it. If people have issues with certain clips down the road, youtube allows you to edit out content after uploading. Basically, just talk to your immediate supervisor.

@HamSandwich277 not sure when it started but it's within the battalion building and acts as a place to hang out, grab a drink, and discuss things (we are responsible for providing our own drinks and snacks).
