John was a good man . He had a sense of humour which is now lacking in politics. He also cared deeply about Newfoundland. We will miss him .

Could someone please help me out here? I'm trying to understand why John Crosbie's passing is given such national notoriety and coverage. Being a provincial Lieutenant Governor and cabinet minister from a long long time ago just doesn't seem like enough of a reason to explain it.

@@oakleysierney1918 - I had mush respect for John. I admired the way he handled difficult people and situations with his sense of humor. I am also very aware of very difficult decisions he had to make within the political platform that affected the people of Newfoundland regarding the cod moratorium of 1992. John, being a Newfoundlander, I am certain it had to have been a very difficult decision. I still admire him.

@@oakleysierney1918 John had a big personality. He was opinionated, shrewd, sarcastic, smart , witty and tough when he had to be . Many millennials would know about this guy because he retired long ago .

Well, all's I can say is he must have had one HELL of a sense of humor and wit to be given something akin to a state funeral just because of this. Like 1000 Eddie Murphies.

Lovely video content! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you considered - Schallingora Publicity Extracting Scheme (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for learniing amazing eulogy speeches without the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my m8 after a lifetime of fighting got cool success with it.

From a strictly *policy* perspective, who *really* won the 1983 PC convention?:
Crosbie's biggest supposed weakness was his not speaking French and the fear that would isolate Quebec.....yet Quebec's place in the country was more precarious than ever by the time Mulroney was done.
Crosbie's biggest *plank* was continentalism, which Mulroney then opposed. Yet it's now one of the two most transformative policies of Mulroney's years (the other being the GST, which Mulroney partially defended as helping make free trade work better in the first place).
If you'd time-travelled from 1983 to 1993 without actually seeing the leaders' faces, you might have thought Crosbie had won.

@@FMHammyJ Unlike the tax it replaced it is very visible and helps to create an underground economy to avoid paying for it. Should have been left the way it was

@Cody Gatzke You are absolutely right. The problem is the average Canadian could not understand all that. They were furious of this tax and it was the main reason the Conservatives got wiped out in the next election.

This is a justification of policies; it isn't a eulogy. It is history according to Mulroney.
