- I have to move off my sailboat because I am not allowed to stay there during yard time and find myself in a skanky hotel. Luckily, I get a visit from my friend Andy who is helping with making molds for In Mocean and some boat refit projects | Untie The Lines S7E03

Ahoy everyone!
My name is Nike and I have been living and sailing on my sailboat Karl since 2013. After a massive refit marathon, I finally cast off the lines and learnt to solo sail my 37-foot Reinke Super 10 that I called "Karl". I am publishing videos (at the moment every two weeks) about the ups and downs of living, repairing and sailing my boat.
Since January 2022, I have a new permanent crew member: my furry friend Boga. When I started out, I did not know much about boat repair or solo sailing. Since I am still out there, I hope that my story inspires others, to chase their dreams, even if they might think they are not cut out for it. There is always a way, so I'll see you out there!

Thanks to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this epic adventure with me so far. It would not have been the same without you!
Lots of ocean love, Nike🧜♀, Boga 🐾 and KARL ⛵

This is why I love this channel so much. You get random brief flashes of brilliant existentialism hidden amid boating stuff.
you cannot imagine how happy this comment has made me. I thought that Andy`s message was really precious and it fit so well with what I usually like to portray. I had hoped that others could see a similar value in it and here you are with your message. Thanks for sharing this with me!
Hi Andy, lived in N Seattle, Stanwood, and Anacortes for three years, 70 years ago. Been following the lovely Nike's adventures since I found her changing engines in Karl some years ago, take care my friend.
This points out soooooooo many reasons why I love Mexico! Gracias Nike⛵️⛵️⛵️👏👏👏
right?
The cultural experience and the minimal life feeds our soul , But PIZZA sincerely is better 😉😍 I wish you the best.
@@CemTuten 😂😂😂 u nailed it 😜
I'm glad to see you back and exploring. You always bring a bright spot to my day. Love you!
thanks Craig, that`s sweet to hear.
Niki,
I love history and sailing so thank you very much for sharing. Note to self: carry your passport when ashore!
Awesome! Happy to hear u enjoyed the video!
😀😀😀👍👍❤❤ Almost 100K subscribers! Thank you for all your hard work. Filming, editing and narrating!
There you go again! Doing great stuff and meeting people. I'd love to join you someday.
Thanks again for another great genuine video. I visited those ruins last year, we hired miguel from the marina office to be our guide.
Ahhh Good memories with you and Andy at the Sport. Great video, you really captured the essence of 5he place.
Andy is very insightful …
Mold, coughing etc, I know it well. Maybe mold, definitley mold. I've been battling it for months, coughing, sneezing, rashes, spraying, wiping, ventilating. antihistimines, nasal sprays, finally getting better now after daily wiping and treatments!
Take care out there!
yeah, it`s nasty stuff
Try a dehumidifier: Everything alive needs water in order to survive.
Low humidity makes life not-so-good for fungi.
Need shore power for that, but the morning rituals continue and still mold free now!@@charonstyxferryman
OYE. The hotel sport...is that the same one I visited you in? wow. I wish the marina would let us stay on the boat, even on the hard...imagine how much more productive wed be if they would...I wonder if that is part of the point? I enjoyed the episode, as always!
@@SailingPAPILLON no, this is the one in “town”, the one u visited me at was a bit outside town. I swapped location after a month ☺️. The one u visited will be in the next episode.
I have wondered many times why they have this policy about not staying on board. They mention insurance but then what’s the difference of u working on (or below) the boat during the day in comparison to sleeping on it at night 🤨🤔
@@WhiteSpotPirates AHHH! lol, okay! Yeah...I was told they stopped allowing it because ONE guy was grinding on his hull late at night and ONE person complained...who knows right? But the new time schedule at the yard is also lame too...they kicked us off the boat many times right at 6pm. What ya gonna do...lol
Hello Andy from Olympia. I plan to set sail on my own adventures in 3 years.
wohooo that sounds exciting, where do you plant to go? What are you most excited about?
FELICITACIONES POR OTRO GRAN GRAN VIDEO NIKE !!!!!! TE MANDO UN GRAN SALUDO DESDE LATITUD 34 S. ARGENTINA BUENA PROA CERVEZA Y PIZZA !!!!!
gracias amigooooo. Espero que todo este bien ahá en Agentina. Saludooooos
I was stationed close to Seattle in the 80's.
It`s a lovely area. I sailed up there for a couple of weeks once and absolutely loved it!
That was a very touching and personal video. Much appreciated it. That hotel room looks totally un0healthy, yeark.
A tick-tac-toe game will soon end up in the bin. More long lasting useful things are needed, such as for sailing, like coffee mugs, bowls, spoons, knifes, - microwave pots, ...!
@@coffee6783 thanks for ur feedback! I definitely agree that it’s important to do useful things. IMO, games are quite useful and fun and stick around and if not needed anymore can be passed on☺️. And lots of kids in these parts of the world don’t have access to many toys…which is why we went for this mold. I can see how in an over-saturated household this might look different but since we operate mostly in remote areas with fairly little infrastructure, I quite like the game idea ☺️
Unfortunately, we cannot make anything food related because we cannot guarantee that the recycled plastic is food grade 🤷🏼♀️ otherwise, those would be really great things to produce, I very much agree 👍
👏👏👏
❤
love the game idea :3
happy to hear that :)
Boat life has challenges and compromises. Not everything is perfect.
I would even dare to say that "perfect" is not what I am after or trying to achieve ;).

haha, keeping my fingers crossed.
WOW!!! Have not heard the word SKANKY since I left Germany in 1962.
🤣 is that good or bad?? ;)
@@WhiteSpotPirates very bad , I got a black eye.

Is Andy's boat damaged and hauled out too?
@@chikken_soup nope, not damaged fortunately. He sailed it up further north but came back down to visit
kakaww kakaww
Know you are into recycling plastic, they are starting to use 3D printers to make HDPE boats, think that would be viable business making dinghies out of plastic, you could print really solid seaworthy boats with flotation chambers
We have started a pilot project with In Mocean to scope out the options and impact of making and using recycled 3D filament and just had a productive meeting this morning (that Andy - who you got to know in this episode - was part of as well. We want to do some stress testing for a bit in the first run but it does seem to bare many great oppotunities!
@@WhiteSpotPirates I saw where some people used 3D filament in a Hot Glue Gun to draw out parts on Parchment Paper (which can handle 400-500 degrees).
Border or Boarder (video title)? The latter could be a pun.
😄😄😄 that would be a fun pun. I thought something was looking odd when I looked at the word. Thanks for the spell check ;)
