The separate bedrooms story: Having the baby share t parent's bedroom could make it hard for the husband to get enough sleep to do his job, or even to drive safely. However, there is another option that doesn't require moving. Finish off part or all of the basement or attic. That way more rooms can be added without even having to add on an addition to the house. I think that the basement is the better choice, unless it is prone to flooding. All of the plumbing and electrical hookups come into the house in there, so it is easier to do an inside addition, and it's easier to add a half or shower bath too. Adding a bathroom to an attic would require running plumbing up through the walls, which is more complicated. also, if the ceiling is too low, it would take a good bit of an time, energy, and money to lift part or all of the roof, all while exposing the inside of the home to the elements. Yeah, keep the baby in the master bedroom while fixing up the basement. By the time it's done the baby will be ready for it's own room, and one or both boys can move to bedrooms in the basement. They can share a shower bathroom and a room for studying and hanging out in with the bedrooms opening onto it. You could even throw in a microwave oven and a mini fridge. Sorry! Got carried away. Spent too much of my life living with relatives and wishing I had my own place. Got obsessed with planning how I'd have things set up if I had my own place. I do now have a nice apartment of my own, but old habits die hard.😄 Anyway, try my suggestions. It's better than having to relocate, while still giving your family more room. It's also probably a lot cheaper than the cost of a bigger house elsewhere, plus the cost of moving. It will also add value to your existing home. 🤗
Lots of assumptions. In many parts of the country homes do not have basements, and OP doesn't say they do. Also, most homes built after WWII where I grew up, Southern California, did not have usable attic space either. But I don't get it. There are three bedrooms, so a master and two others. Two of the children will have to share a room at some point. There is absolutely no reason for the oldest boy to have his own bedroom since he will not be living there full time anyway, and I assume is not in the same school district at the moment because he lives with his mother. And if the baby turns out to be a girl, usually the same sex kids will share a bedroom, so he STILL won't get his own room.
It blows my mind how two penniless people who had such a fantastic situation going for them could mess up so badly. Who the hell did they think was going to pay the taxes, upkeep, utilities and day to day living expenses of the house they demanded OP gift them? Some people are just as dumb as rocks.
NOT HARDLY ELDERLY !!! RECORDING EVERYTHING IS BEST THING YOU DID !!! KNOWING THEY HAVE PLENTY OF SAVINGS !!! BEEN WAITING PAINTERLY 4 MONEY 💴 2 KICK IN !
Could you imagine the delusional audacity?!? Hahahahaha I'd make these things so miserable they'd never have a second of peace even if it ended the marriage!!!
I would have told them I would let them live rent free in the smallest of the other two homes. That way they could live by themselves and the husband wouldn’t have to worry about them. But this is coming from a person who would convert the three back rooms in a large house into a granny flat until I pass over and leave the whole house to my daughter and SIL.
Third story, bring a fork, when they ask you why, tell them it's to put through your hand if you steal my food, I actually did it to my bully, he couldn't run to anyone because he had to admit what he did, win win , he stops, and no punishment
Tell inlaw's to find a place to move to and get out before you take them to court to have them moved out and they haven't found a place they can go to a homeless shelter
Second story, I never understood the need for a nursery. I could never let my babies sleep in another room, I couldn't sleep would babies near me, My babies slept in my bed with me, I slept very lightly because any movement from my babies would awaken me, I guess everyone do what is comfortable for them, 3 story tell your so called friend to feed her boyfriend if he is so hungry or it was just a sandwich, good for you for standing up for themselves and setting boundaries with other students and teaching others to stand up for themselves, loose the friend because when he dump her she then will see it your way but tell her it too little too late and you don't need her in your life because she could have stop his crap but instead 3nable it and thought it was funny, he probably told her he was going to do it so they can get a laugh
It would have been an all out war. I don't even let my kids take food off my plate. That's just rude. Honestly I would have smacked him in the back of the head and been like, " oh my bad 🙄". Definitely wouldn't have sat near him again
Story 2: Joe sounds like he is overcompensating for not having been in his son's life before. Its not his fault, he didn't know about the son, his heart is in the right place. He feels he needs to do this NOW to make up for lost time. But the kid won't care about having his own room/sharing on the weekends as much as he will about having a dad who actually cares and wants to be there for him. Joe needs to stop blaming himself for not being there earlier, and channel those feelings into bonding with the son instead.
Since why would your in-laws expect to inherit anything from *your* family. And, "just give us your house"! What!??!?! Geez. The only help you should give them would be a month rather than a week.
YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THEIR FINANCIAL FUTURE !!! LAUGHING WHOLE TIME TAKING OVER YOUR HOUSE 🏠 !!! SENIOR ??? HAD NO HOSPITAL BILLS !! MONITORING YOUR FINANCES !!! GOING THROUGH ALL OF YOUR PERSONAL BUSINESS
I hope Op puts her monies into trusts so her children are protected & so her husband only gets a small allowance each month…. He’s backing her now but his parents may manipulate him if she’s gone.
I understand that husband is very hyper-aware of the parenting time that he has missed with his son. He desperately wants to make up for it by overcompensating with attempting to set up his son's new bedroom. This is how he is channeling that anxiety,:overzealousness..OP is doing the right thing by pumping the brakes on the housing change. With the new addition, an infant, not requiring a lot of space, it will be a while before a new home is required. OP can phrase it to the husband as taking their time to find a nice house in their school district that will be the most economically feasible and best functionality wise for this newly blended family. It's less stress for them all during a time of great change for them as a family unit.
Story 1 Your in laws should move out into assisted living accommodation and they have not had to pay rent or bills and you would be happy to make up the short fall ,and I would move for eviction immediately as they have had a free golden ticket, and I would happily have called a lawyer asap, you showed them kindness and generosity is over due to their threats they got caught by their own greed and actions I would have moved them into assisted living no house ,and you no longer have responsibility for them , you inheritance brought out their greed if they had approached you might have been nicer they probably wanted it to sell or to gift to another,be wary they are looking for more money, you did what was in your children interest
Story 2 You should find a house in the district he trying to be a instant father and your husband not thinking about the upset to you son who had so many changes
Your husband won't talk to u lucky u he sounds like a real prince a real keeper but do try to find the right zoo to keep him in one with big cages and a room for each of the nut jobs
Why would an elderly couple need such a big house, they were being greedy in someone else's success. If they didn't broach this subject in such an underhanded way I'm sure they would have been given a smaller place on their own
The Highschooler is correct and your friend is allowing her bf to bully you. The bf should be taken to the Principal's office for Bullying and theft and get suspended. Also she is not your friend either. Their are people, who even in Highschool that know how to be true friends. Find and get to know some of them, because even after Highschool they could be your lifelong friend and they would be WAY better than the "friend " you have now. P.S. Most school have a NO BULLYING POLICY as well as one for theft. Use it as he violated both. In fact report it not only to the Principal, but if you have one at your school, report these issues to your on-site Police Officer, who usually works for whatever city you live in too.
Nta. In laws think they need to live alone. Well then they can gtfo. It is your house. If they try to post anything. Sue them for slander and being squatters
Coming up on 60 is not necessarily retirement age. In australia unless self-funded, you don't get to retire until at least 65. Let the in-laws know how laws work in your area, and let them work to save up for their own retirement... do they really want to be totally dependant, while they can still earn something? Is your husband going to pay for any holiday trips for them? Have you set up iron-clad trust funds for your children, so that people with questionable financial nous, cannot bleed them dry, if anything unfortunate were to happen to you?
Sitting around with a few friends I was eating some chips and this person reached into my space to get my chips I said get your hands off my chips and she said or what so I bit her and from that day on people respected my space and my food so my brother's found out now they ask do I have mad cow disease lol
Story 2. I'm sure there is something more to this that was not told in the narrative. (1) What happened to the mother of OP's Husband's son? Why is she not in the picture? (2) The son must have been under the custody of his mother, hence the son is sleeping in OP's house about three times a week, . Why is there a need for the son to be living with his dad (OP's husband) immediately when OP's husband did not know the existence of his son for 13 years? Is OP's husband getting full custody of his son? (3) Why the rush in getting a new house just to accommodate the son with a room of his own when there are viable options in the meantime? Is the decision for it has something to do with custody?
Should have dumped that milk in his lap....accidentally ??? Or pushed your sandwich further into his mouth. Best way to handle idiots , embarrass them in front of their friends. Be prepared for next time and your friend is not your friend.
Schools which are good are worth their weight in GOLD. They need to wait and get a good house in the right spot. Wrong to make the other children change schools!
Also as a mother of 5, you have the baby in the same room for the first several months up to a year anyway. And Daddy needs to be used to that fact he made the baby too. Mommy might work as well, very likely she does, and you don't sound to worried about HER sleep!
S1: All that the In-laws had to do was to live free with no responsibilities, burden, bills, rent, or expenses, provided by the DIL. Now everything is gone in the wind, all because of their greed, jealousy, hatred, cunningness, deception, and self entitlement. They had everything until their own evil thoughts destroyed them.
Story 2 Joe is up to something. He must realise that good schools are as rare as rockinghorse manure . No way should you move for another woman's son who probably won't want to stay after he's 18 year old.
This lady is going out of her way to make this stranger feel at home ( he may be his bio son) he is still a stranger and they don't know a thing about him . That husband is not being fair expecting his wife to go out of her way to accommodate this new person in their family. Buying an entirely new house is way over the line.
8:30 OP could have done what husband did. When il laws sold their house to pay debts. SHE could have leased an aptt and given them $ x per month for 12 m and said, after that, it can be discussed between OP, husband and in laws! Prevention (not taking people in) is always better than cure (throwing them out)
WHY DIDNT HE TELL ABOUT THE VERY VERY GOOD INVESTMENT DEAL ???? SO YOU CAN ALSO WIN ??? HE KEPT SURE THING , INVESTMENT A SECRET !!! JUST HIM DOUBLE HIS MONEY 💴 WHILE YOU SPEND ALL OF YOUR MONEY

And if the baby turns out to be a girl, usually the same sex kids will share a bedroom, so he STILL won't get his own room.
No basements in North Texas, either (clay in our soil). It really comes across as OP's husband not wanting to be bothered by a baby at night.
It blows my mind how two penniless people who had such a fantastic situation going for them could mess up so badly. Who the hell did they think was going to pay the taxes, upkeep, utilities and day to day living expenses of the house they demanded OP gift them? Some people are just as dumb as rocks.
30 day notice…… that’s it
Yes OP should help them out of her house.
#1. I would say "wait I thought you were telling me they were moving out".
1st story, Good for you for not being a doormat, Your in laws are still able to work they are not that old, they now know you are not a push over.
Story 1. If the problem was taking care of the kids then they could have asked for a babysitter or a house keeper not demand a house
Story 2: Is there any way that you can add another bedroom to your existing house? That might be a good compromise.
Story 1 :- what a pair of silly blackmailers! Do they honestly think that you will give into them?! Turf them. NTA, OP.
50's is not old. Hell I'm 57 and will get my butt out there and live on my own. Just lazy people.
Absentee husband not making enough to contribute to the home??? Why would he be absent unless he has another family.
Wow, I guess this person's In-Laws never heard of Thou Shalt NOT Covet.
Newborns should be in the parents room for the first year or two is normal.
Second story, I never understood the need for a nursery. I could never let my babies sleep in another room, I couldn't sleep would babies near me, My babies slept in my bed with me, I slept very lightly because any movement from my babies would awaken me, I guess everyone do what is comfortable for them,
3 story tell your so called friend to feed her boyfriend if he is so hungry or it was just a sandwich, good for you for standing up for themselves and setting boundaries with other students and teaching others to stand up for themselves, loose the friend because when he dump her she then will see it your way but tell her it too little too late and you don't need her in your life because she could have stop his crap but instead 3nable it and thought it was funny, he probably told her he was going to do it so they can get a laugh
Kick them to the curb. They are not of retirement age. Some folks don't appreciate what they have until it's gone.
The second story, why can't they remodel and build a room.
His parents should be working for an additional 10 years.
Since why would your in-laws expect to inherit anything from *your* family. And, "just give us your house"! What!??!?! Geez.
The only help you should give them would be a month rather than a week.
Why is Joe's 13yr old son suddenly living with them?
You should have done some stop please stop stealing my food
HUSBAND ABSOLUTELY KNEW !!! BUT IN-LAWS JUMPED THE GUN !!!
Story 1: Wow! The in laws suck!
House hunting. What's wrong with building an addition to the current house?
They are really sorry they are living in a crap hole apartment.
Story 1
Your in laws should move out into assisted living accommodation and they have not had to pay rent or bills and you would be happy to make up the short fall ,and I would move for eviction immediately as they have had a free golden ticket, and I would happily have called a lawyer asap, you showed them kindness and generosity is over due to their threats they got caught by their own greed and actions
I would have moved them into assisted living no house ,and you no longer have responsibility for them , you inheritance brought out their greed if they had approached you might have been nicer they probably wanted it to sell or to gift to another,be wary they are looking for more money, you did what was in your children interest
Story 2
You should find a house in the district he trying to be a instant father and your husband not thinking about the upset to you son who had so many changes
Yeah, the inlaws suck but OP is also TA for not being honest with her husband.
Your husband won't talk to u lucky u he sounds like a real prince a real keeper but do try to find the right zoo to keep him in one with big cages and a room for each of the nut jobs
The in laws were wrong but she is way much eviler the husband should also run for the hills
JOE CHILD !!! NOT YOUR CHILD !!! ITS A SET UP
So two free loaders in thier 50's want you to give them your house so they can retire? The BS doesn't fly.
Talking about biting the hands that feed you .
Chopped Cheese huh. That story takes place here in NYC lol
NEARLY 60 ??? DAMN !!! SO SO VERY VERY VERY YOUNG !!! STILL ABLE BODIED FREELOADING , PANHANDLING LEACHES !!! ONLY GOOD 4 YOUR MONEY 💵 !!
The muyhtty in laws!
Bad move op not telling hubby!
Last story: when OP looked away for the 3rd time… I gave up.
Chopped cheese sounds like New York
Greedy in laws without any respect for you and expect you to pay their way
U dont owe them anything there not ur parents there user's
Yes sure just try to get some sleep with the baby in your room ... especially for Joe who probably goes to work every day.
You deserve it for turning your back a second time.
NTA.. the FOOD THIEF was as is the enabling GF.... Should have grabbed HER lunch, tossed it, and asked her how SHE liked not being able to eat!!
Joe, needs to take a chill pill.... there is time to DO IT RIGHT...
Story 2 Joe is up to something. He must realise that good schools are as rare as rockinghorse manure .
No way should you move for another woman's son who probably won't want to stay after he's 18 year old.
Story 1. Keep their butts to the curb. Let your hubby take care of his parents.
Prevention (not taking people in) is always better than cure (throwing them out)
True, but when they sold their house, OP wasn't at a point she could do more than let them in. Nor was her husband.
WHY DIDNT HE TELL ABOUT THE VERY VERY GOOD INVESTMENT DEAL ???? SO YOU CAN ALSO WIN ??? HE KEPT SURE THING , INVESTMENT A SECRET !!! JUST HIM DOUBLE HIS MONEY 💴 WHILE YOU SPEND ALL OF YOUR MONEY
If you own the home why can’t you add on to the house or remodel another room? It would probably be less expensive then buying a larger house.
Unexpected extra son. Could you not expand your current house by building on to it?
60 yrs old is HARDLY a senior citizen…. Lol
Joe is seeing his ex and is moving closer to her
Anyone else suspect the husband into trying to get millions.
