Do you want me to share your story? Kindly email it to me at rgirlsubmissions@gmail.com and if I like your story I'll feature it on my channel! :)
Throwaway because all my friends are on this app. To get a full understanding of this situation, I'll give you all some background. So, Amelia and I have been best friends since middle school, completely inseparable, the kind which teachers, parents and everyone knew about and would ask if they saw one without the other. I thought, this was meant forever, our friendship and our strong bond would last for life.

The Last Story. The woman bought a lamp in an estate sale. The Heirs of the estate realized the lamp was worth thousands of dollars. Voila magically it becomes a family heirloom. Send us some of the money! If it was a family heirloom they'd be wanting to find out who you sold it to so they can recover it. They just realized that they screwed up and gave away value and now they're trying to con you. NTA don't be a sucker. These might not even be there original sellers. @Voodoomaria ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Last Story:
The lamp was for sale, the lamp was LEGALLY purchased.
OP and Mother are under neither legal nor moral obligation to return the lamp.
Note they ONLY have the word of the seller that the lamp had sentimental value, it's equally likely they discovered through posts that it was more valuable then they originally sold it for, and they wish to have a "Do-Over".
It's an old principle of law.
You buy a plot of worthless land for X-Dollars.
The sellers discover later the land has a valuable resource on it [gold mine] worth X times 50, and tell the buyer the sale price was unfair, and want to buy the land back for X+1 dollars.
The buyer refuse, and sells the land and/or mines it for the X times 50 value, and become rich.
All very legal, and very proper.
The original vendors forfeit ALL rights, legal, ethical AND moral to the item once the original sale is concluded.
Some time ago, I and others bought on Amazon, some memorabilia that originated from a storage locker that had been forfeited for non-payment and auctioned off.
The original owner started trolling the Amazon buyers with demands and threats for the return of the items.
I was one of the few who responded, and I responded by quoting a standard contract form a locker storage facility regarding non-payment and forfeiture.
I told the person IF they felt their locker had been wrongfully seized then they should seek legal redress from the locker facility through the courts.
The original owner confessed that they had, and they had lost the case because they had clearly not paid for the locker.
By now others were commenting as well.
I simply told him that All sales were legal and final, and he had neither legal nor moral right to demand return of his former property regardless of it's value Vs. the amount owed to the locker facility, and that his own communications to me had provided all the evidence I needed so if he did not back off, I'd be responding with a legal filing of my own.
He backed off with many grouses and grumblings.
Once an item is legally sold it becomes the sole property of the purchaser to dispose of as they see fit REGARDLESS of the circumstances of the original owner.
They would only be so IF the lamp were stolen property.
    LEARN THE LAW.

  • @charleshuguley9903
    @charleshuguley9903 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Heirloom lamp story. I think this is a significant ethical issue. There are several possible variations in the circumstances that might affect it. First is the previous owner's claim that it was a family heirloom sold by mistake. In this case I would conclude that the right thing to do would be to return the item and accept the reward as compensation for your trouble, although a charitable person might decline the reward. Second is if the original owner offered it for sale at a price that made you suspect that they were unaware of the true value. There was a story in the news recently about someone who had found, at a yard sale, what he had good reason to suspect was a very valuable ($millions) painting being offered for $50 or so. The value of the painting was confirmed and the buyer arranged a sale and shared the proceeds with the previous owner. In my in my opinion this was the ethical thing to do. Some might say that it is a legitimate practice to seek out such deals and profit by them, that buying cheap and selling dear is the foundation of business. However many people, myself included, believe that there should be limits on such practices. An example is the case of pharmaceutical companies with patents on important drugs such as insulin jacking up the prices to levels that make them unobtainable by those who need them. In a just society, as in private exchanges, there should be restraints on business practices.

Nope! Nope! Nope! The lamp was sold by a liquidator at an estate sale, your mom bought it and the family can pound sand. If the company running the sale sold it in error then that company can compensate the family. When I buy something at an estate sale it is not my job or responsibility to tell the seller what I intend to do with the object. Both myself and my boss do this kind of resale and sometimes we score big and make several hundred dollars and more often we make zero money or even sometimes lose money. When you are at a sale you have very little time to decide whether or not you are going to buy an item and I've never had a seller offer to split my loss with me if I make a bum decision. Share who you sold the lamp to and the family can buy or not buy it from them. Anything else gets a great big "Go fuh yourself."

    Story 3
Your mother is finding a wonderful hobby and you should encourage her to continue and you should not trust that they made a mistake, because they found out only it was sold and you should not give them anything the where told after the sold it ,and they found out afterwards it was valuable they thought it was worthless the sold it ,so I don't think they did not do research to afterwards they found out and that's a case of sellers remorse it's like buying something in a charity shop they think is worthless and cleaning it and find it's a original,I used to work in a area famous for jewellery and used to buy junk from a old lady giving her more than it's worth broken jewellery and she brought in a piece with large stones clearly Asian in origin I gave her money it was set in cheap metal so I gave her £50 and thought I make up the loss in a few days and nobody would be the wiser
Well I started to have a nagging feeling I didn't tell my boss but decided to check the stone cut as oval stones I did a couple of tests they where real I took them to a friend and he broke them out of the metal settings weighed them and checked them for flaws after allowing for waste he gave me a thick wad of notes and I had over £2000 so I took the fifty I paid put it back in petty cash and kept my mouth shut, and waited she shuffled in again and I asked to meet me across the road in the coffee shop I knew she was selling things because she was broke so I didn't tell my boss and gave her the envelope of money,I don't regret my actions because I knew they wealthy people I worked for would not care and she needed the money they did not but that was not because of any great morals it was a case of extremely wealthy versus having not enough to survive with out having to sell her items and what made me feel I done the right thing was when we went to the coffee shop she was trying to sell me her very worn wedding ring of her hand to pay her electric bill and my boss lived in Mayfair and would think £2000 plus as pin money I know I am know saint if she had been wealthy I would have said nothing and donated the money after replacing the fifty pounds to the homeless they would complain about living in the car park washing in the public toilet and would have been pure spite on my part as they did not know I used to leave sandwiches secreted in a spot for a particular person, and if weather was dreadful let them get warm in the basement where I was working I never regretted it it's easy to be nasty when you are living in luxury and have never had to go with out, because you come from wealth ,and talking about people like vermin
So I think your mother and you where right the wanted to dispose of a relative's estate quickly and get the money quick

I don't think it was actually an 'heirloom' they wanted back to keep in the family. Something 'space age' is too new to have been passed along more than once, if at all, yet - so is not really an heirloom. If it actually did have sentimental value of some kind they'd have asked for the details of the buyer with the hope of recovering it, 'if it had been sold' - the fact they wanted a share of the profits indicates they realised too late that they'd sold something too cheap and regretted missing out on the payday. They definitely seem to be aware it's worth more than it was sold for by saying about wanting a share of the profits - so if they actually just wanted it back would have offered the actual value as a 'reward' in the first place.
