Any painter would know this is terrible advice. Pour the rest of the paint back into the can, and seal it. Then wrap your brush/ roller with the plastic and then wrap it again. That way it doesn’t matter if the tray dries or not.
As I appreciate your thoughts, this works for me and is much easier than putting everything away if you don't have to wait long between coats.
