I heard horror stories about the physics in the original Sonic Origins, so I held off. Then I heard previews of Plus say they were largely fixed, so I picked up a physical copy of Plus for the Switch the day after launch. I'm glad I spent the $40. I spent a bunch of time on my cousin's Game Gear, but he had only The Little Mermaid and Power Rangers: The Movie. Nothing Sonic. So the Game Gear titles were a first for me.
I think what annoys me the most is that the base game now costs less, essentially as you mention you can buy the game with the Plus DLC for the same price as the base game a year ago. But what about the people who bought the game day one, who paid the extra 5 bucks for the additional annoying content that should've been in the game like "Map Menu controls"? And now we have to pay an extra 10 bucks for Plus... Now I'm here wondering if I should buy Superstars day one, or wait for the inevitable DLC a year later?
I didn’t even buy origins day one or even now because I know Sega pulls this trash and I’ll wait for a deep sale. If I wanted to play Sonic that bad I’ve had it since my childhood and I have beaten all the games x100 times. It’s just crazy people will throw money for these compilations of games when they’re half arsed, but game companies keep doing it because “fans” can’t keep it in their pants.

Now you're getting it. This is how I get my PC games. If you don't need it day one you get it all for a better price. I had the Sega Genesis collection so I didn't even realize this had been out a year already. I just want to get it for the switch to play on the go.
It was an absolutely SEGA thing to do. Luckily it seems the DLC isn't worth it at all so they can shove it up their ass, just like every Sonic game that's come out since Adventure 2. Well, not EVERY one, but most. lol
@@sithlordmikeyp I really like the racing games, mania, colors, Generations, and Forces is starting to make updates where I'll give it another chance once they add more playable characters. They could have made origins the end all be all classic sonic compilation by giving us every classic game from all platforms of the 90's, especially since they decided to give us all of the game gear titles at once. I think having the addition of the remaining genesis games, 16 bit spinball, mean bean machine, and 3D blast along with knuckles chaotix from the 32X as well as the saturn version of 3D blast, Sonic R, and Sonic the fighters would have made this collection worth the price it's asking for. Even sonic pocket adventure from the neo geo pocket color would have been an interesting choice to throw in.
@@sourcefreak7997 No it wouldn't. This compilation was original about the genesis sonic games but then they decided to throw the game gear titles for no reason other than why not. If that's the case then give me the rest of the classic sonic games in this collection.
I feel the best reason to play as Amy is her attack reach with the ability to defeat every boss in the game relatively easily. Even the final boss of sonic 2.
A few updates I wish they would add are the ability to customise your play style, like say play the game in wide-screen but with lives instead of coins, or vice versa with infinite lives but original screen size ratio. Another thing that would be nice is if you could pick your partner, so you could have Sonic, Knuckles, or Amy following you instead of just Tails. Also I agree they should have given Amy double jump since it seems they're trying to give her the same move set from the new Superstars game, and it would have made her more fun to play in Origins.
That's something I never understood, why is it that we can't pick which ever character we want to have follow us? Taxman's retro sonic the hedgehog allowed for various character combinations and even mania's on core mode sort of did this too. So what is the excuse with this "definitive" classic sonic collection not doing it?
I do like how they did amy. she's a safer easier version of sonic. her hammer spin isn't invulnerable like the insta-shield, BUT, it stays out longer and has clear range. her drop dash run thing is at a fixed speed, and can turn, making it easier for newbies to handle. she can also break breakable walls with her hammer attacks, where sonic can only break those walls while jumping by using the fire shield. she's not overly original, but she's great for newbies to get into the game, giving them a little handicap over sonic. sonic is superior for skilled players, but amy is more manageable for newbies. I've seen newbies play, and characters like knuckles and tails mess them up because they panic and spam the attack button, leading knuckles to just glide for a second and fall helplessly on enemies, and tails to fly into enemies which usually leads to taking damage. Amy is a good beginner friendly character kept simple, but more forgiving than sonic.
1:33 Sadly, that one is a case of due to literal legal reasons, would never be resolved anyway. Add the fact the “proto tracks” are from an older proto (most likely the one used for S&K Collection on PC at the time). 1:37 Well, 2.0.1 added that nearest neighbor pixel filter, so there’s that. 1:39 You can, via Sonic 1’s level select (yeah, its weird but its there)
Amy Rose’s version of the Insta Shield is longer lasting than Sonic’s version of the move, which is as standout as it gets for her (she also hits bosses Sonic normally can’t from so low, so another standout). 4:58 It was because he wasn’t playable in the 2011 version (which was what the Origins version was based on), it’s that dumb and simple. 6:16 Also Mega Collection Plus as well for the remaining Game Gear Games
I was in the second group. I didn't buy Sonic Origins when it first came out. Heard all the drama about it, so decided to pass. Then when Plus came out, I gave it another look, and was fine with the price. I don't regret buying it, plays great on the Steam Deck. Though I totally understand why people would still be pissed about the collection, especially those who bought the collection before Plus.
I like Sonic Blast, honestly I always hear people call it a bad game yet I’m yet to hear a single person explain why, what is bad about Sonic Blast? Also I’d argue the Game Gear versions are superior to the Master System versions, from your video I can tell you’re not very experienced with them and chances are you may even think they’re the very same games but with a wider screen but there are way more differences that make the Game Gear versions imo feel more polished and more complete, more animations, better level design, more areas to explore, better boss fights. The Master System versions are missing so many songs and many areas are missing, they don’t even have a proper intro screen and in Sonic 1 there’s a chaos emerald burried in spikes that is impossible to get without taking damage in a very specific way, I think the best comparison I can make is if the Master System games were the Super Nintendo Mario games, the Game Gear versions are the GBA ports. In an ideal world we would’ve got the Game Gear versions but with expanded screen, this way you get the best of both worlds and in fact that’s how I’ve been playing these games for the past decade and a half thanks to Genesis Plus GX having this feature on the fly.
Plus all of the games were designed for Game Gear first by the developers and its their vision the Master System versions came later for over seas fans in South America Europe amd the Middle East. Edit: He didn't mention that some of the Game Gear games are displayed in a wrong aspect ratio.
6:53 i hate when people show the SEGA logo as the way to show the error. It's better to show the faukt during levels cause it actually wasn't that bad before while the SEGA logo always was that bit crunched. Its some fake stereo effect they applied
I still haven't picked up Sonic Origins, and the DLC has done nothing to change my mind. It's like they put in some effort, but not enough to really change anything. I have a similar sentiment with Sonic Mania Plus. I love the base Mania, but the DLC has such little substance to me that it didn't convince me to come back. I might get Origins at some point, but the base game seems fine enough for me. Also, the physical version feels like a waste of money since they put the Plus content behind a download code, which is frankly unacceptable.
Agreed on that last point. It's really stupid when a physical edition of a game still requires you to download content that should've already been included with the game itself.
The Spindash in Sonic 1 can be disabled in the level select menu. In addition, you can restore the original speed caps, instant death spikes, playing as Sonic & Tails in Sonic 1.
As a fan of Mighty and Ray's inclusion in Mania, I'm disappointed they weren't added in as well. Likewise, I think it's a shame all the additional elements you can turn on in the cheat menu - Super Sonic and a Sonic/Tails duo in Sonic 1, the Elemental Shields in Sonic 1 and 2 - weren't made available in a saved game run, like in Mania Plus. I also think it's a shame they didn't add more customisation options, like Knuckles/Tails in all four games as well as the "select any level on a cleared save" for all the games, like the mobile versions of Sonic 1 and 2 did. Once I finish a Classic Sonic game, I like to go back for all the emeralds I missed in a save, then play through the levels in order using the super forms. Origins only lets me do that in Sonic 3, which isn't enough for me personally.
Well nobody gets Super forms in CD, since that game has Time Stones rather than Chaos Emeralds. But you could just use the cheat to give yourself all the Emeralds at the start of Sonic 1, and in Sonic 2, there's more than enough checkpoints to get all the Emeralds in Emerald Hill. Though, at the same time, I do get your point; it'd be nice to do an S3&K style New Game+ run in Sonic 1 & 2 without having to resort to cheats.
I love that they made this collection - the classic Sonic games are great, and they’re a huge source of nostalgia for me. But if you’re gonna include more games, why stop at the Game Gear stuff? What about Knuckles’ Chaotix? The Sonic World bit from Sonic Jam? Even more esoteric stuff like Sonic Eraser? Sonic Pocket Adventure? Sonic The Fighters? Sonic R? Segasonic The Hedgehog (That isometric arcade game)? All of those would not take up a ton of space, would be easy to port over (other than Sonic World, I guess), and would give people a ton of incentive to pick the compilation up - they could even up the price and market it as a greater value. Well, I guess those would go against the idea of Sonic “Origins”, but they put Sonic Blast on this over the Master System versions of the Game Gear titles that had them, or over Chaotix? Sega has a habit of doing stuff in half-measures. They need to stop that.
I think if you're a die hard Sonic fan the collection is a bad purchase, there are better fan remakes of these 4 games that let you fine tune your experience however you want, and the master system and game gear games are easy enough to grab on their own. I do agree however that this is the best official collection available specifically for the main 4 classic titles and if you're interested in Sonic they're a good way to go, but Gems and Mega Collection Plus will always be the best collections of Sonic games in my eyes.
Not to mention they (Sega) have shot themselves in the foot. By removing the original/individual releases of the games from the Steam store, people who want to play things like Sonic 3 A.I.R or other fanmods will have to resort to downloading a ROM to use with those rather than the default Steam versions that they were explicitly (though not exclusively, they've always supported ROMs) designed for. Probably a drop in the ocean as I imagine it's mostly die-hard fans that will play those over Origins as you say, but still a stupid decision on their part that mostly punishes the most dedicated and loyal fans imo.
The Master System versions of Sonic 1 and 2 differ from Game Gear ones, and 2 Master System is outright more unfinished than the Game Gear one. Good ending music is missing, the water is visually broken in Aqua Lake 2, the bosses are all unfinished such as the very first boss only having one ball pattern, Aqua Lake and Gimmick Mountain bosses being possible to exploit by staying in the corner of the arena and lacking certain attacks, Green Hills boss not being able to chain attacks, etc. Also, Sonic Blast is better than Triple Trouble in every way and I am tired of pretending it's not. At least it has competent bosses, doesn't lag whenever there's more than one object on screen and has the decency to have levels and special stages be short and not devolve into the labyrinthine slogs that are most of Triple Trouble (particularly Tidal Plant, which is probably the most boring 2D Sonic zone, ever). Blast in general doesn't get enough respect for not wasting the player's time, despite it's level design being meh. At least the controls are also more consistent than Triple Trouible, as there's no large input registering issues.
I was going to pick this collection up to play as Amy until I heard about how boring she was. Instead, I checked out a bunch of mods and wow do they make Amy fun to play. My personal favorite are ones that give her her Advance 1 moveset, but a good middle ground is the moveset she has in Sonic 3 AIR, where she can do a glide similar to Knuckles but with a short duration by spinning her hammer, a hammer strike on the ground, and a super jump. It gives her a lot of movement options where she can go some places Tails and Knuckles can go, but not all the places either of them can go, and she feels super different from both. I really hope this boring moveset doesnt become her permanent Classic moveset.
I've tried a rom hack of Sonic 3 which adds Amy... she had unique hammer moves, one of which doubled up as an alt. double jump. That ROM hack wasn't perfect though as she can't spin dash in or jump on enemies normally making normal boss encounters a lot harder than they should be. I'd rather play this origins plus+ iteration of Amy in classic games than the ROM hack version any day.
Origins as a whole bugs me really, I didn't pick it up last year because after watching the trailers I was left with "That's it?" and "No they're gonna do more and charge people." I will say I think it's worth picking up Plus IF you didn't buy the game a year ago. The unlucky souls that did that's on them but of course reviewers have to innevitably buy it. I'm not getting Plus because there are better ways to play all 4 of the titles and better ways to play the Game Gear titles as well. Amy is a great addition but she's not enough and that just won't cut it Sega Fans do what Sega can't. And sadly that will never change.
Knuckles in sonic cd is the funnest and easiest and most broken as climb to the top of the level border, jump and glide to get on top of the level and glide to the end for a speed run.
35 quid for this? For a collection of already-released games with some (imo) lacklustre additional features? No thx. I took a look at the price because - to my surprise - I couldn't find any hacks out there for the original games that add e.g. insta-shield into Sonic 1, or many of the other ability customization options (character mods on the other hand have existed for years, and of a better quality than what you'll find in origins); but for 35 fucking quid though? I'm good. I at least found a hack of insta-shield in Sonic 2, which I will be playing for fucking free :) Also should have just gave Amy her advance moveset; it was actually interesting and provided a legitimately new style of play, rather than just Sonic but hammer. Especially sad that this will now likely be seen as classic Amy's "canonical" moveset for these games for any future games/collections. Also the hammer throwing in hyper form looks absolutely ridiculous and I think absolutely doesn't fit with the style of the games. I get that these are ports and aren't expected to run exactly the same as the original games, but just knowing that all those hammers should be lagging the absolute fuck out of the game breaks my immersion, so to speak.
You know what they mean. Don’t be a pedant. Would you be happier if he said “Sonic Advance was the first time she was playable in a 2D platformer that actually mattered and not a shitty racing game spinoff”.
Or, yknow, hammer jump like Amy Rose from... Sonic. She did used to be able to hammer jump, it's not like the move is from anton blast. Amy's first 2 playable appearances had a lot of cool fun abilities, I'm sad they started to strip her down from sonic advanced 2 and onwards.
@@zeddy5085 In Adventure, she could do a hammer high jump from full speed, and the hammer spin attack was fun, if rather situational. Then in Advanced, she could do a hammer jump anytime, and she can hammer the springs and get sent flying.
@@jruler93 Yeah, it was a pretty fun mechanic. You also had to time the hammer swings pretty well in advance 1, which made Amy the hardest character, but she was very engaging to play. Sorry I didn't see you already told @Gabonation that Amy could hammer jump, for some reason TH-cam displayed this comment as having no replies lol.
The main selling point of this dlc imo is Amy being playable, but that is completely pointless because why would you buy this to play as Amy if you can play as her in Sonic Superstars or Sonic Frontiers in the end of the year? Unless you are a diehard Sonic fan, don't buy this.
Well, being able to play the Game Gear Sonic games is also really nice. But again, that probably only appeals to diehard Sonic fans, rather than a more casual audience.
I didn’t ever pick up sonic origins. I am not flush enough with cash to buy it. I think the only way I would buy it would be if they added a definitive sonic rush experience.
It's the attention to small details, like how Amy runs instead of flying in the final stage, which makes it clear that SEGA craps on its money spending fans, who are willingly paying for said crap.
I had fond memories of Sonic 1 and 2 on the Game Gear, but in hindsight they're pretty janky compared to the 16 bit titles. The titles after Sonic 2 especially are trying too hard to match the 16bit games. I had more fun playing through the 16bit games as Amy.
Agreed. The music changes alone is a deal breaker. More than happy to stick with my original carts and CD as well as sonic Jam, my cube Mega & Gems Collections and all the free fan mods I could hope for. Getting me to BUY the game again (and compromised versions too) would need much more than this despite the QOL improvements.
@@Noobsaibot21 I'd be fine with the music changes if they just used the tracks exactly as they were from the prototype. They didn't need to make them sound so bad.
@@Noobsaibot21 No offense, but I thought MJ's tracks were the worst. Being stuck on those rotating cylinders in Carnival Night Zone while listening to drunk circus music has given me PTSD.
That’s why I waited. After buying Sonic Frontiers and mania then seeing Sonic team releases DLC and updates I said ok… I’m gonna stop playing and buying Sonic games for a bit and just watch for updates and when origin plus came out I bought the “full” release because that’s basically what this is… I’m not counting this as a DLC as this should have been standard
*Amy doesn't add any incentive to reaply these games." Dude immediately reaply ALL of the games to completion ONLY because Amy Rose was added to the game. Which is what a lot of people are going to do.
You can get that experience if you want with a series of romhacks called "Amy in Sonic 1", "Amy in Sonic 2" (or Sonic 2 Pink Edition if you prefer Modern Amy), and "Sonic 3 & Amy". Theyre really fun.
I was going to get it physical despite the game being half-arsed compared to Mania but, unlike with Sonic Mania, the Plus is also a download code.... It would be nice if publishers' practices stopped getting worse.
Honestly they should have given us both the game gear and master system games. FFS, these companies love to milk every penny out of us. God forbid they throw us a bone.
Maybe because Amy’s moves aren’t unique enough to warrant a mission mode. I’ve seen several reviews talking how underwhelming Origins Plus is because of how how much it missed the mark in delivering the definitive packaged experience. I haven’t bought the Plus content literally for all the reasons you guys have pointed out. It was disappointing in the first place to only have Amy playable across all games, and feature all the Game Gear titles.
I feel so burned by this DLC, having bought the deluxe version at launch so i could play Sonic 3 on my Switch. Everything here should have been an easy slam dunk...
I don’t even have to watch the video to answer the question. Simply put, if you bought the digital deluxe edition, or got the separate DLC packs than No. It is not worth the value because now you’re buying the DLC packs again “plus” $3 worth of extra bonuses (ie: Playable Amy & Gamegear games). If you’re a diehard Sonic fan that eats literally everything that Sega gives you, no matter the value or quality, or you haven’t bought the DLC packs yet then sure, go ahead, It’s somewhat worth the asking price. The Gamegear games have very annoying audio issues and Amy’s ability feels like a huge let down. I was expecting her to have a double jump or something like that but instead she has a very crappy Insta shield/drop dash like move with her hammer and it doesn’t look good. The sprite art from A+Start really good and makes you feel like she was part of these games all along, but that’s all good I can really say. The truth is that it’s up to you whether or not you want to buy it now or wait for a sale because I remember getting Sonic Origins on sale for $20 twice and it was a really good deal but who knows when that’s gonna happen again. (Just so I don’t come off as rude, I’m gonna watch the video anyways because it looks pretty good. Thank for reading!)
I'm disappointed that you can't mix and match characters, nor match knuckles with tails in sonic 3. I'm guessing this is to prevent him from going on sonic's paths. back in the day, I used game genie to make knuckles jump just as high as sonic. it's funny how he can fight robotnik and fly with tails in some parts, but it doesn't really mess with the game. and with sonic 3 being a remake, it's not hard to just program robotnik to be the robot copy version whenever you play as knuckles
I strongly disagree with Amy. I felt her playstyle is a lot of fun and not boring as you make it out to be. Also the birthday image unlocks cheat codes for the game which you failed to mentioned.
Sure I'll pick it up but I'll have Sonic 3 always able to play in its original glory on the PS3 with Sonic's ultimate genesis collection. The new soundtrack is abysmal
Saw a review saying that on Steam and did exactly that, dont regret a thing. Id add on for the "play as Amy" experience to try out "Amy in Sonic 1", "Amy in Sonic 2" (or Sonic 2: Pink Edition if you prefer Modern Amy) and "Sonic 3 & Amy" as well.
My policy is to not buy Digital Downloads. So now when Origins Plus came out (physical) it was an easy decision! The GameGear games are not that interesting. I'm not the biggest Sonic fanboy of all time. I'm more like an average "I like Sonic" gamer. So this compilation works great for me. So if you're like me and skipped Origins (no physical release) and prayed and waited for a physical release then the physical Origins Plus is def worth it! If you've bought the Origins "2022" version as digital download it feels like it's not worth that 10 dollar upgrade, but we're all different. If you bought Origins "2022" and you couldn't wait for a possible physical release and you've wanted that then you should buy it. Collectors should def buy it! Maybe 2 copies: one to play and one to keep sealed :)
I've put in a few hours and bought the game day one and I can say its a pretty good collection. I've encounter little to no bugs at all which makes me think most of the videos were faked.
@@thecoolbroscoolman4672 wasn’t knuckles chaotic good? and they’re more then capable of emulating a 32X game if anything game gear is harder to emulate.
Honestly I’m surprised they didn’t add Mighty and Ray as playable characters as well. They already have unique move sets and play styles that there really is no reason to not include them. Also would’ve liked an “Encore Mode” for Origins Plus as well. No reason for this to be $40 ($10 DLC) when mania plus is $25 with a pretty good chunk of quality content
i feel as if origins is more a death by papercuts situation. things like sonic 3s music sucks, but its not all too bad. but eventually you get into things like chaotixs music being mixed up (i know it was fixed, but still) and knuckles originally not being playable in cd. theres these little bruises that diminish the collections quality, and the fucked up level system, but i feel like there are 2 main problems with origins: it doesnt replicate the originals physics very well and therefore messes up some parts of the game, and the classic mode doesnt even emulate the original game, it just adds a life counter and sets it to 4:3. if a few small changes were made, i feel as if origins would be the definitive version, even better than the christian whitehead remakes.
Funny you say the physics aren't replicated properly when that actually was also the case with the Christian whitehead remakes. The bad physics just come from those remakes.
@@90sNath true, they are all made in the retro engine, however i still feel as if the christian whitehead remakes are still more faithful, even if its only by a little. theres a lot of cool gimmicks that can sometimes be ruined by the new physics. and while origins is using a newer version of the retro version compared to the mobile versions, that could mean direct porting of the engines could have differences or issues between each other, which means changes and mistakes can still be made. feel free to prove me wrong using footage from the christian whitehead remakes if you want to, but im firm in this opinion to be honest
@augustleded origins is worse i will agree. But Christian i will say started it. Go to level select in Sonic 2 Mobile Enter Metropolis Zone and play it until you reach a set of springs that bounce you to spikes. Try not to get hit without moving away from the spikes..... you can't. Repeat the steps in Sonic 2 on Genesis, you won't get hit.

her hammer spin isn't invulnerable like the insta-shield, BUT, it stays out longer and has clear range. her drop dash run thing is at a fixed speed, and can turn, making it easier for newbies to handle. she can also break breakable walls with her hammer attacks, where sonic can only break those walls while jumping by using the fire shield.
she's not overly original, but she's great for newbies to get into the game, giving them a little handicap over sonic. sonic is superior for skilled players, but amy is more manageable for newbies.
Amys drop dash is wonderful cause it implies she swings it wildly as running and it fits her lol
6:53 i hate when people show the SEGA logo as the way to show the error. It's better to show the faukt during levels cause it actually wasn't that bad before while the SEGA logo always was that bit crunched. Its some fake stereo effect they applied
6:45 My ears are bleeding with nostalgia! 😭
you're so underrated, i hope you blow up soon. keep it up :)
Blow up??? 💥🤣 I kid! I kid!
The definitive version to legally play Sonic 3 & Knuckles in 2023 is Sonic 3 A.I.R .
I think the problem is that Origins and Origins plus are catered more towards casual fans than hardcore fans
Did they fix the upscaling?
As in remove the blur filter and let the pixels be sharp and true?
I think if you're a die hard Sonic fan the collection is a bad purchase, there are better fan remakes of these 4 games that let you fine tune your experience however you want, and the master system and game gear games are easy enough to grab on their own. I do agree however that this is the best official collection available specifically for the main 4 classic titles and if you're interested in Sonic they're a good way to go, but Gems and Mega Collection Plus will always be the best collections of Sonic games in my eyes.
Fair enough, but those are collections are older now than the originals were then.
@@GuyDude-hk8uy like, my brother in christ, RELEASE THE GAMES ON MOBILE.
Apparently Amy IS supposed to have a double jump, I hope it's bugged at the time, so they'll fix it
I've tried a rom hack of Sonic 3 which adds Amy... she had unique hammer moves, one of which doubled up as an alt. double jump.
Amy is a great addition but she's not enough and that just won't cut it Sega
Fans do what Sega can't.
I'm good. I at least found a hack of insta-shield in Sonic 2, which I will be playing for fucking free :)
Also should have just gave Amy her advance moveset; it was actually interesting and provided a legitimately new style of play, rather than just Sonic but hammer.
Amy’s first
Playable appearance in a 2D sonic game was sonic drift
You know what they mean. Don’t be a pedant. Would you be happier if he said “Sonic Advance was the first time she was playable in a 2D platformer that actually mattered and not a shitty racing game spinoff”.
This is still a better product than Mario 3D Allstars!
At least Sonic Origins has been available for more than six months.
@@jruler93 Exactly
amy's hammer gave me idea, basically she can hammer jump like anton from anton blast
She did have a hammer jump in Adventure and Advanced.
@@jruler93 so they could use it
Or, yknow, hammer jump like Amy Rose from...
By the time Sonic Superstars comes out, people would simply forget that origins exists.
Don't think they'd add the Rush games to a collection of the Genesis games. But I'd love to have a collection of the Avdanced and Rush games.
Buying this physical is pointless. The voucher for Amy and the GG games makes this a hard pass for me. Everything should be on the disk.
Nice video
It's the attention to small details, like how Amy runs instead of flying in the final stage, which makes it clear that SEGA craps on its money spending fans, who are willingly paying for said crap.
I love Sonic’s organs
A few bonus trophies would've been nice...
I had fond memories of Sonic 1 and 2 on the Game Gear, but in hindsight they're pretty janky compared to the 16 bit titles. The titles after Sonic 2 especially are trying too hard to match the 16bit games. I had more fun playing through the 16bit games as Amy.
At this price point and with how broken and compromised it STILL is, this collection is a hard pass.
@@otaking3582 To be honest, I just hate them altogether. The originals are iconic and burned into my memory
@@Noobsaibot21 No offense, but I thought MJ's tracks were the worst. Being stuck on those rotating cylinders in Carnival Night Zone while listening to drunk circus music has given me PTSD.
@@Noobsaibot21Why, proto cnz is leagues better then that goofy 🤡 music
That’s why I waited.
After buying Sonic Frontiers and mania then seeing Sonic team releases DLC and updates I said ok… I’m gonna stop playing and buying Sonic games for a bit and just watch for updates and when origin plus came out I bought the “full” release because that’s basically what this is… I’m not counting this as a DLC as this should have been standard
Finally a review which doesn't scream at you how bad Origins Plus is.
*Amy doesn't add any incentive to reaply these games." Dude immediately reaply ALL of the games to completion ONLY because Amy Rose was added to the game. Which is what a lot of people are going to do.
Is the game still full of bugs? I can just mod the music back in.
However, Rescue meant Sega made a really good infomercial about it which made me laugh
Sonic CD + Knuckles
What didn't Amy just get her advance moveset for a hard mode for all the games
You can get that experience if you want with a series of romhacks called "Amy in Sonic 1", "Amy in Sonic 2" (or Sonic 2 Pink Edition if you prefer Modern Amy), and "Sonic 3 & Amy". Theyre really fun.
hey, I know how to make Amy standout from the cast even more!
Make her play like she did in the other four games she was playable in.
I never bought the original origins so it’ll be worth it for me lol
I was going to get it physical despite the game being half-arsed compared to Mania but, unlike with Sonic Mania, the Plus is also a download code....
It would be nice if publishers' practices stopped getting worse.
No resolution changing is really frustrating for me
I want it to always be in Manias resolution windowed which is my preferred size
I’m enjoying it
I strongly disagree with Amy. I felt her playstyle is a lot of fun and not boring as you make it out to be. Also the birthday image unlocks cheat codes for the game which you failed to mentioned.
You wait, their leaving those better versions for a DLC expansion further down the line to allow them to tripple, quadroople, megga dip
I love it!
and Amy is great
best game ever
Sure I'll pick it up but I'll have Sonic 3 always able to play in its original glory on the PS3 with Sonic's ultimate genesis collection. The new soundtrack is abysmal
Glad I got it after a year while it's cheaper. It's fun. But a little bad. I don't care. Sega just.. take my money.
I’d have loved if they added Chaotix and an improved Spinball
Yes it is
first, and in my opinion, origins plus is trash, play sonic 1 forever, 2 absolute, and 3 a.i.r. instead!
what about sonic cd
wait nvm im dumb i forgot theres a official sonic cd port thats amazing
Saw a review saying that on Steam and did exactly that, dont regret a thing. Id add on for the "play as Amy" experience to try out "Amy in Sonic 1", "Amy in Sonic 2" (or Sonic 2: Pink Edition if you prefer Modern Amy) and "Sonic 3 & Amy" as well.
I don’t understand why they didn’t add the rewind feature!!!!
who up marking their haha?
Guess it was since I still bought it lol
I doubt it
Tails love Amy Well at least they’re classic versions
I've put in a few hours and bought the game day one and I can say its a pretty good collection. I've encounter little to no bugs at all which makes me think most of the videos were faked.
Sonic Origins is overhated
*overrated
@@codyryan9789 is it really?

No, but i bought it anyway
My question is why tf did we get game gear and not knuckles chaotics
Cause sega doesn’t want to go for something that will be hard to emulate/remake and have no one like it/play it
@@thecoolbroscoolman4672 wasn’t knuckles chaotic good? and they’re more then capable of emulating a 32X game if anything game gear is harder to emulate.
@@nikboyd8636 Really
Honestly I’m surprised they didn’t add Mighty and Ray as playable characters as well. They already have unique move sets and play styles that there really is no reason to not include them.
Also would’ve liked an “Encore Mode” for Origins Plus as well. No reason for this to be $40 ($10 DLC) when mania plus is $25 with a pretty good chunk of quality content
Still doesn't have the original Sonic 3 music. I don't care about lazy excuses why Sega couldn't do it. They're incompetent
It lags because of denvoe though.
Something sega most likely will never remove for their "fans"
I don't care of the price and it is amazing!
So you're disregarding the bad stuff to just call it good.
i feel as if origins is more a death by papercuts situation. things like sonic 3s music sucks, but its not all too bad. but eventually you get into things like chaotixs music being mixed up (i know it was fixed, but still) and knuckles originally not being playable in cd. theres these little bruises that diminish the collections quality, and the fucked up level system, but i feel like there are 2 main problems with origins: it doesnt replicate the originals physics very well and therefore messes up some parts of the game, and the classic mode doesnt even emulate the original game, it just adds a life counter and sets it to 4:3. if a few small changes were made, i feel as if origins would be the definitive version, even better than the christian whitehead remakes.
Go to level select in Sonic 2 Mobile
Enter Metropolis Zone and play it until you reach a set of springs that bounce you to spikes. Try not to get hit without moving away from the spikes..... you can't. Repeat the steps in Sonic 2 on Genesis, you won't get hit.
@@90sNath alright, good point. i dont play sonic mobile as often as i used to but maybe i could test to see if some of the physics glitches in origins is possible in the christian whitehead remakes
@@augustleded I'll have to test some too as it's been a while since I played also. But I remember the physics bugging me in the mobile verison before origins came out.

There is literally no reason for the additional Game Gear games not to be the Master System version of them. And that is what pisses me off the most
