I love how in the first season earth bending was seen as basic and boring compared to the other elements. All we ever saw was people throwing rocks or shaking the ground. Then Toph comes in and shows what it truly means to be a master of the earth.

Then toph comes along and literally smashes through the barrier that is the potential of her bending. We saw many different styles of earth bending and it seems to be almost as adaptable as what water is. Especially when we get into avatar kora and “bolin” does lava bending with firebending insights. the strongest benders use techniques from the other styles. lightning manipulation is from using water bending styles with fire. Earth with fire style equals.. lava. I think the water healing may actually take teachings from the air benders. but you get the idea. If azula was the prodigy of fire. then toph is more than just a “prodigy” of earth. Shes an instant master.

For those of you wondering if Toph Really _is_ what she's cracked up to be, here's a list: Almost singlehandedly invading the Earth Kingdom Palace with a little help from team avatar, Completely Singlehandedly defeating several of Dai Li agents at once on multiple occasions, Inventing Metalbending within a matter of hours, by herself, out of sheer stubbornness, teaching a peaceful air nomad kid to stand his ground like am earthbender in only a few weeks, Singlehandedly defeating an entire underground fight club of earthbenders at ONCE, busting down any metal door she wanted too, Singlehandedly defeating three Sozin's-comet-boosted firebenders with little more than door, and destroying three-to-five Airships with ease, and that's BEFORE she hit her prime. She then went on to learn how to see the entire world from within a swamp, Kick an avatar's butt, and force a merciless conquerer to stand down by her presence alone. HOLY ROCK-ENCRUSTED F*CK.
I feel like it's also worth mentioning the time she held up an *entire massive underground library* being pulled down by an ancient, powerful spirit. At age 12.
Toph is a great character on her own, but I really like how she mirrors Aang's story. Much like her associated element, Toph's origin and character is the antithesis of Aang's. Aang struggles with living up to the expectations and pressure that comes with being the Avatar. It takes a long time for him to accept his role, because he (at first) would much rather live the care-free life of an Air Nomad, the one he was born into. Toph is the opposite, born disabled to an affluent family, Toph wasn't expected to be a warrior. She had to actively construct her destiny and constantly reject the path that had been chosen for her. Pretty dope shit y'all.
I love how Toph's bending is just so unique. Like, we've seen benders using techniques from other elements, but Toph? She's straight up creating her own moves and that's awesome
I just watched a doc series called avatar spirits, and they show they looked for a very unique martial arts master to make Toph's style. It's just incredible when you see, because, just like Toph, you don't believe by the looks of the guy
Most characters develop in a way that makes them more independent. They start needing the care of others and end up standing on their two feet alone through progress. Toph on the other hand develops in reverse. She stands alone with her two legs, carrying her own weight. She views that anyone who wants to take care of her that sees her as weak and helpless. Her character development is one of accepting the help of others and that you don't have to stand on your own two feet, you can relay on the strength of your friends to help you. I must say I love her development.

This was soul shaking and dare I say earth shattering. Pun fully intended. I have been trying to get my parents interested in ATLA and I think this may just do it. The quotes from the show are so perfectly placed together. The visuals are so in sync with the music. I am sharing this with all my ATLA/LOK groups and friends and encouraging every single one of them to give this a like and subscribe. This is incredible and I know that if the show's creators saw this they would be so proud.
I grew up with a stutter. I was made fun of, and most people never really believed in me Because if that I hated everything. I couldnt speak. I couldnt talk. When i saw Toph in the show i was inspired. She made me start working out, and helped build my confidence. Cant say im where I want to be, but she gave the confidence to fight for myself. To not let anything stand in my way. She is literally the reason i took up strength training and wrestling. I wanted to be like her

@@o_o1317 It's not really about raw power. Aang's abilities simply counter Toph, because of her blindness. If aang were restricted not to use airbending, then Toph might even win. Now if Toph were not blind, then this might change. However it is her blindness, that makes her much stronger against any other earthbenders.

Okay SO I’m not Blind or Hard of Sight, but I am Hard of Hearing. I was kid when Avatar was aired. I connected with Toph’s character basically immediately. A badass disabled young person is absolutely what disabled kids need to see, and her character undoubtedly shaped mine. I
In many ways you are toph though. It’s you. this is a formidable challenge to western metaphysical conception of ability. Doing shit other people can’t do because u have lost a sense, it’s a manifesto, an oxymoron. Ur taking ownership of ur person, something that fundamentally altered ur experience growing up is being avoided by society at large. We have to dig deep and fight for a fair world, it’s a good thing we know how to do that. Like earth we stand, get digging.

Well her metal bending helped a LOT. The fire nation loved metal, because it's strong, and "unbendable". Or so they thought until Toph came around.

toph is truly and honestly my favourite character of all time ever like doesn't matter the movie, tv show, book, manga, anime, anything. ever. she was my heroine when I was a child, she's tiny, hot-headed, determined, goofy, mischief and not girly at all, just like I was. earthbending is my favourite bending till this day, and i still know some of her fighting moves. such a great role model. i love this girl, I really do. 💚thank you for this video, it portraited her perfectly. gave me goosebumps lol

I’m not Blind or Hard of Sight, but I am Hard of Hearing. I was kid when Avatar was aired. I connected with Toph’s character basically immediately. A badass disabled young person is absolutely what disabled kids need to see, and her character undoubtedly shaped mine.

In many ways you are toph though. It’s you. this is a formidable challenge to western metaphysical conception of ability. Doing shit other people can’t do because u have lost a sense, it’s a manifesto, an oxymoron. Ur taking ownership of ur person, something that fundamentally altered ur experience growing up is being avoided by society at large. We have to dig deep and fight for a fair world, it’s a good thing we know how to do that. Like earth we stand, get digging.

@@e_jiuu They didn't know she can tho, she showed them when she met ang, and also a side note it doesn't matter if your kid can handle herself/himself it will always be your duty to protect them, Not as much as they did but they didn't know she can handle herself physically at least. In the world of benders anything can happen and sending a little girl with a bunch of kids is not a wise decision.
