Ampeg vh140c. Idk what they used later on tho. I heard suffocation used a peavey xxx at some point. Expect mesa recto or peavey 6505 boosted with tube screamer type OD pedal
Marshall Valvestate plus a Korg Toneworks G1, a multi use pedalboard. Has multiple different kinds of distortion/OD, Wah-Wah, delay, EQ and Noise Reduction. This is important because this Korg G1 is what makes the Pierced from Within tone. Otherwise just go with the same shit you see here in C# rather than Eb. Maxon OD plus a Mesa, Peavey or even a sim. This will get you an even more powerful, mid-focused sound than a Dying Fetus setup would, which is pretty much a budget equivalent lmfao. That would be an Engl with it's stock preamp distortion options, or if you have the cash (which at that point why aren't you buying a Peavey 6150 or a Diezel anyways) you buy a EVH 5150, then it's just stock distortion line. With a lot of these tones it's Line In > Plug into Amp > Learn to pick cleanly, aggressively and efficiently is the secret asides from a noise gate and a distortion/OD lmfao, no magic comes from a cool pedal on death metal really. You need enough gain, yet have enough tone control of that added gain. That's it. Not a single special tuning, not a single special jack shit. Devourment, a slam death metal band notorious for their low tuned chugga guitar, recorded Babykiller in Eb. Cannibal Corpse used Eb until they got 7 strings in the early 00s, Chuck Schindler used D or C# for many years on his B.C. Rich, a comfortably higher tuning than most of the death metal he influenced at the time, for example Entombed and all sweedish bands adored B and C standard. In other words just set up your guitar right and you'll be rocking well.
I met the band back in 2002 here in Santiago, Chile, I brought my cd booklets to get them signed and Corpsegrinder actually crossed out Barnes's face on my copies of The Bleeding and Tomb of the mutilated, the absolute madman

Two months ago I started listening to Death Metal. What a tool, I've been into metal for about 36 years but never gave Death Metal a chance because I thought the vocal growling was idiotic. I was definitely wrong. Death Metal has the best musicians next to Jazz. Onward I go searching for new tunes...
Some of their old material is in E flat. Most of their music is played on seven string guitars tuned to B flat, and drop A flat for the newest songs. The gist of their tone is EMG 81-7 / Fishman Fluence pickups, Maxon ST9 (or Ibanez TS9, close enough), followed by a Mesa Dual or Triple Rectifier. Set the overdrive pedal volume level to high, gain to zero or nearly zero, and you are all set.
Also, Pat O'Brien uses a Keeley modded Metal Zone pedal for solos. It is basically a mid saturated distortion pedal with a good portion of the treble cut out. This removes the slicing characteristic of the Dual/Triple Rectifier's gain circuit and allows the single note solos to be heard in the mix.
The later Cannibal Corpse albums' guitar tones are basically my holy grail of guitar tone. There's stuff that works in other settings, I really like really messy rhythm tones for instance, but for BEEF, and just 'the best', I always end up with their stuff.
sounds great, Ola. also, I don't know whether or not he's switched back to his normal Mesa Boogie Dual or Triple Rectifier rig, but ... for the past few years, Pat O'Brien has actually been using a pair Marshall Major 200-watt heads, along with an MXR Fullbore Metal pedal.
That would be really cool, would require 8 delays, all with modulation, not many analog pedals can deliver that nowadays. Ola, can you do it? Do you have the gear?
One of the most heaviest and clean/clear tones I have made is with my Schecter C1 Hellraiser with equipped Floyd Rose and EMG pickups, Mesa Triple Rectifier and Mesa Cab with a Metal Zone stomp box and (here's the secret weapon) BBE Sonic Maximizer. That Sonic Maximizer is a amazing for metal. My effects chain is guitar > Metal Zone > Sonic Maximizer > Mesa Clean Channel > Cab. Get a good tone first with the metal zone and then engage the Maximizer. I've been meaning to make a video of this. Arguably the best tone I ever found.
How about some slayer tones, reign in blood era and seasons in the abyss era? I might add you seem like a really cool dude. Your vids are always informative! Thanks!!!
Sometime soon I want to do a video expanding on Ola's CC tone video and everything I've learned in a couple years researching their tones. Using an older Mesa cab with V30's or the Erik Rutan Two Notes IR pack with the actual Mesa and Marshall cabs they used to record some of the records, EMG81/Fishman Modern pickups, NYXL strings, the Maxon ST9 Pro+ and the two different settings profiles for the different eras, and lastly a Boss MT-2 with the Keeley mod for the 2000 era.
@JezBollah 667 just stop. They're a huge band for a reason. Just because you are not into them, doesn't mean they're "gimmicky" or "cringey in most people's minds".
Love seeing CC live. Their tone is fucking crushing and they put on a great show. I'll have to try this with my Trem-o-verb, I never would have guessed they max out the gain like that. I had to listen to Scourge of Iron after this video haha

Brandon Curtin not really. They almost never use 7 string guitars. They just use 6’s tuned to A# and G# STANDARD. Not Drop.
Before corpsegrinder joined all they played in was Eflat then they moved to the G# standard or on some tracks A# started
@@brandoncurtin1947 the first 4 albums were played in E flat, in 6 strings.. not 7
I'm really enjoying these 'tone replication' segments.
Hey brOla, that 7 string would be cool with an E or V shape. Let us know when it's in development :) 10/10 tone btw
The later Cannibal Corpse albums' guitar tones are basically my holy grail of guitar tone. There's stuff that works in other settings, I really like really messy rhythm tones for instance, but for BEEF, and just 'the best', I always end up with their stuff.
I want a Solar Guitars single cut!
Chris not suitable for ola's type of shape
Solar Guitars are not supposed to be like "Ola's guitars"... Also, Ola played ESP Eclipse and Dean Cadillac in the past.
Ask, be denied in a coy troll, and you shall receive.
Your wish was granted.
3 years later I still watch this video. God damn that tone is thick.
Cant wait on the kitchen corpse cover.
I liked the first rig chain better. Seemed like you were more inspired by it too Ola. Congrats on the new house!
Seeing cannibal corpse in 2 days
I love the sound of the band, immense, they are the most brute-sounding of them all.
You should do an Iced Earth Tone next.
sounds great, Ola.
also, I don't know whether or not he's switched back to his normal Mesa Boogie Dual or Triple Rectifier rig, but ... for the past few years, Pat O'Brien has actually been using a pair Marshall Major 200-watt heads, along with an MXR Fullbore Metal pedal.
Waiting for the video with mt 2
Damn what pickups were on that seven string Solar?? THAT was the sound!
Dig into your homeland a little! Either:
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin
Or
In Flames - Clayman
The guitar sound on both of those albums is perfection.
Literally my dream amp head right there
Hey what about Allan Holdsworth? It's a hard one, he even passed looking for the perfect tone.
PS: if i have to believe in god, i'd believe in Allan
yeah, not only was his playing out of this world, his tone was too!
That would be really cool, would require 8 delays, all with modulation, not many analog pedals can deliver that nowadays. Ola, can you do it? Do you have the gear?
'Allan akbar'
"Sounds like a grown mans pair of balls." 😂🤣😂
Translation: what Ola men’t by, “sounds like a grown mans pair of balls” is it sounds thick, thick af.
@bhauger1 your parents probably dropped you when you were born
Arguably the best tone I ever found.
jeff loomis did use this in Nevermore.please make a video!
It's almost exactly like Pat's rig, 'cept the ISP Decimator rack unit, and he used _2_ _Keeley-modded_ MT-2s.
Still waitin on that video man, let us hear your RectumFrier!
How about some slayer tones, reign in blood era and seasons in the abyss era? I might add you seem like a really cool dude. Your vids are always informative! Thanks!!!
Great tone. Even the EMG, metal zone combo sounds great too.
I dare even say I liked it BETTER than the Maxon...
It kinda sounded better tbh, go back and forth in the video for comparison. EMG sounded sharper, less muffled.
The Mesa Boogie Dual Rectum Frier
That Code of the Slashers riff sounds so mean and awesome :D
Could you do In Flames Guitar Tone next? maybe Colony or Clayman era?
Whats the pink and purple light?? I NEED ONE NAO
Karl Casey Philips Living Colors
Sometime soon I want to do a video expanding on Ola's CC tone video and everything I've learned in a couple years researching their tones.
Using an older Mesa cab with V30's or the Erik Rutan Two Notes IR pack with the actual Mesa and Marshall cabs they used to record some of the records, EMG81/Fishman Modern pickups, NYXL strings, the Maxon ST9 Pro+ and the two different settings profiles for the different eras, and lastly a Boss MT-2 with the Keeley mod for the 2000 era.
Morbid Angel!!!!!
Man, that why I kept my MT2 for so long!! Keep up your great work Ola.
"I was in Six Feet Under"
Oh dude, I'm so sorry.
@JezBollah 667 just stop. They're a huge band for a reason. Just because you are not into them, doesn't mean they're "gimmicky" or "cringey in most people's minds".
@JezBollah 667 wow dude get help
JezBollah 667 Cannibal corpses most edgelord lyrics were written by the current vocalist of six feet under, Chris Barnes...
@JezBollah 667
Try decaff bro
@JezBollah 667 damn dude, that's like a full essay. Put that much effort into something productive.
Love seeing CC live. Their tone is fucking crushing and they put on a great show. I'll have to try this with my Trem-o-verb, I never would have guessed they max out the gain like that. I had to listen to Scourge of Iron after this video haha
