He is a fantastic player. I remember that broadcast well.
So good to see that the backing trio here were sensitive and supportive. I've just watched this year's [2020] contest. An enjoyable event in many ways, however, the backing trio they hired was most unsympathetic and even insensitive IMO; good players, but far too loud, brash and domineering [especially the drummer].
I felt sorry for the contestants all of whom I thought had to struggle - both to be audible, and to get any sense of swing going. I almost turned it off out of frustration.
