      The only thing that would change is the sharpness. Sharpness has almost zero effect on penetration, believe it or not-at least in the mediums I test with. I’ve dulled heads with a steel file and had them penetrate almost as well as razor sharp heads of the same model.

      @@LuskArcheryAdventures Hi John, really interesting observation. I see someone further in the comments related this head to the Ozcut 3 blade. I'm interested in seeing your review of the more recent stainless steel version of the Ozcut Hurricane - I just picked some of these up and they appear to be different in construction than the earlier version. I've found sharpening both versions to be doable but challenging - may not matter much if indeed it doesn't affect penetration significantly. Thanks for all you do for this community - it is important work.

    I’ve tried their solids and vented. I prefer their vented series. Just way easier to tune and better grouping for me. The solids might be better for someone else, but when you’re playing the 25 yd and in game with white tails. The sound the vented makes doesn’t matter.

      Man, it’s hard to say. They’re are at least 50-maybe 100 that I’ve tested. There are the one piece 3 blades then the replaceable blade models. So many different cutting diameters, blade thicknesses, lengths, materials, etc.
      I just tested the new Kayuga that is probably the best penetrating. The Exodus is probably the best all round. The Bishop Holy Trinity is probably the toughest, the Cutthroat is amazing, as are the Valkyries. Just too many to pick the best.

    • @markb8360
      @markb8360 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Go with exodus. You won’t be disappointed. Or consider a two blade Magnus like the stinger or black hornet with bleeders - while not a 3 blade, Magnus warranty and customer service is unbeatable. They do make a 3-blade but I prefer their 2 blade designs.

    Not a fan of solids. I get more shots out of replaceable blade broadheads because damage is easier to sharpen out and you can swap blades if too far gone. To each their own though. This does look like a tough head. Love your testing, btw.

    Not bad, but I like the Ozcut 3B design better. Thicker blades and blades have more support at the ferrule. The weak connection where the blades meet the ferrule is a major design flaw on the TOTA 4 blades and this one doesn't look better.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’ve never seen a weak connection where the blades meet the ferrule, personally.

    • @stick__shooter
      @stick__shooter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I snapped blades clean off the ferrule on a standard 4 blade and XL, and talked to others that have had it happen as well. I don't think it would happen in a hunting situation but still a weak point.

  • @TheArrowBuilder
    @TheArrowBuilder 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm a huge fan of 3 blades but I don't understand the intent of this design outside of ease of sharpening... however the F4 sharpener fixes that. If you really need penetration go with their 2 blade single bevel. Otherwise I prefer the 4 blade regular solid (or vented) as this head is going to fly worse than it for most, cut less for a marginal improvement on bone. Ashby actually says that a 4 blade is better on bone. 2 planes of splitting vs 3.
    I really wish they kept the same total length of the 4 blade XL making the head have less surface area on the blades. Then added some thickness into the blades to get the weight right. The weakness of the XL version is the blades can snap off. This design has more surface area than needed and doesn't fix that issue. Doing something 1.25" cut but shorter would have flown like a 4 blade reg solid (great) but had Exodus size cut at 1.875"
    TOA Reg = 2" cutting surface. Pen Test 1 8" & 72 layers Pen Test 2
    TOA XL = 2.375" Cutting Surface. Pen Test 1 7" & 63 layers Pen Test 2
    TOA SB = 1" Cutting Surface. Pen test 1 9.5" & 65 layers Pen Test 2
    TOA 3b = 1.6875" cutting surface. Pen test 1 8.5" & 59 layers Pen Test 2

    Love your videos , only thing I would like to see is you go back to testing accuracy with a bow not a crossbow. I understand trying to take human error out of it , but crossbows just shoot fixed heads more accurately in my experiences.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. Honestly, I have found just the opposite to be true. The crossbow is much more difficult to get fixed blade heads to fly well out of. So due to the consistency and repeatability, I really like using it for the accuracy testing. And overall, the heads that flew well out of my vertical Bell also fly well out of the crossbow. So the results are consistent.

      @LuskArcheryAdventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I hear ya. My honest take on it is that these are plenty sharp to hunt with very successfully. But for those who want extra sharpness, a 3 blade one piece head is the easiest there is to sharpen.

    • @Tyler_Lyons

      You should sharpen every broadhead out of the package, regardless of price. If you shoot them into a target, sharpen them. The difference is crazy once you know what a truly sharp broadhead is. I don’t think there are any, maybe iron will, that are hunting ready sharp for me out of the box.

Exodus, Stingers Thunderheads etc Of course you need to re-sharpen a broadhead if you shoot it in to a target if you are going to hunt with it.
