We need more videos like this, we really do. I mean hopefully we can have a live reaction of the finale and a video explaining all the controversial fights, like what you did last season. I already shared my thoughts on the bracket many times so I won't repeat myself here again. I’ll definitely live stream the reactions again when the time comes! There’s so many podcasters so I keep away from that, and Mike’s review videos are good. I never wanna intrude on what someone is already doing, so I try to pick my ideas carefully 😂
So the selection committee considers past records for bots and teams. This means that Offbeat Robotics heading into the selection process is not only 2-1 for HiJinx's 2020 season, but also an additional 7-4 from past seasons with Skorpios, a team total of 9-5 over 4 seasons of competing. We've also showed up with working bots that pass safety early on in the process and as yet have never delayed the schedule because we weren't ready. We also came loaded with spares ready for a tournament run. All these things play into the selection process because our "regular season" and tournament take place over only a couple weeks.
Ahh that’s a good point about readiness. Reminds me of the last chance rumble. If I recall correctly, bombshell got in because they were ready and willing, whereas some others opted out like petunia
Our brackets were nearly identical, except I think Skorpios takes out Witch Doctor early, so that top right bracket ultimately goes to Bloodsport. I hope Uppercut takes it home this year. Looking forward to some great fights!
I’ll give them credit: lots of these round of 32 fights are tough to call. I wonder if that’s another thing they keep in mind when sending bots: which combo makes the best matchups 🤔

Honestly I really can’t pick which of the 5 doesn’t deserve to be in. There is so many sides to each argument that it’s just a tossup. (I think P1 should be in because in the end their only loss was to the 3 seed). I think End Game will win the full bracket over Hydra but well see
Yeah once I started recording I realized that you could make a solid argument against any one of those 5 and be right. End Game could go far, I wouldn’t mind seeing them do so and silence some of their critics!

From what I heard all of those were filmed after the main tournament. I have. I complaints about his presence in it: got a good win, lost a good tussle with Valkyrie and lost the controversial one against beta. He benefits from good losses
The breakdown was good, but it missed one variable - Production value for TV. They were hedging their bets by making sure Huge was in Hydra's Bracket, and by making sure the upper-right had a 75% chance for a "dream" match-up. [either: Witch Doctor vs. Kraken rematch, Witch Doctor vs. SawBlaze rematch, or the anticipated battle of the Hammer Saws - Scorpios vs. SawBlaze.] Also, according to an interview I saw with Peter Abrahamson, the ability to repair the bot and its durability were another factor they looked at (one of the reasons why Jackpot was so low and Black Dragon so high). It IS a game of attrition after all. Obviously the seedings were pretty good because it was the Best Tournament to Date, AND all 6 rookie teams were knocked out in the first round.
I personally think chomp and tracer would both beat grabbot, and sporkinok so I would keep P1, Gruff, hijinx, and hypershock in so subzero should be out.
Something I think you are forgetting is it isn’t just how you beat or lost to but how you won or lost. I am open to specific counter arguments for the seeding.
Yes, Nick! P1 in, SubZero out! People getting all pissy about Hypershock making it in when they deserved making it in. SubZero was definitely babied into the tournament and it sucks. I hope Valkyrie kicks its ass lol.
Oh Valkyrie will school his bitch ass 😂 I can see why people got mad about hypershock but the strength of schedule speaks for itself. By far it was the toughest of those 5
@@barangoal9056 I will disagree about HiJinx being tossed into the mix though, since both of their wins were against 1-2 bots, compared to Subzero beating two 0-3 bots and P1 beating an 0-2(?) bot in Chronos and a 1-2 bot. Based on that, HiJinx had the stronger win SoS in comparison to the other two. And it's not like HiJinx's loss was poor either, since Claw Viper is a solid 1-2 bot that lost to the 5 seed and the 17 seed.
I think you relied a little too much on record and strength of schedule. Battlebots has said themselves that there are several other factors that go into it... history, uniqueness, how the fights look and go... and I think it's fair to include at least the last factor. I mostly agree with your analysis overall though. For me Gruff is out, but there's a good case for Subzero too.
I would have had Hijinx fight P1 for the final spot if it were up to me. My bracket ended with Copperhead winning against Tombstone in the final. No matter what happens though it looks like its going to be a really good tournament, lots of awesome bots this year.
heres Seaborg's Hot Take P1 was the only 2-1 bot to not be in the tournament. if you say a 2-1 bot did worse than a 1-2 bot then im sorry but your seeding is broken fix it. I feel for seeding to be done properly, what needs to be taken into account as well is previous tournaments If we look at that: P1 - The team started off with parralax and was the only bot to not be shown in 2018 (man its like Battlebots hate showing the team), had a poor record, then they move over to P1, did better but still didn't do the best, this year they went 2-1, yes it was against opponents that didn't make it into the top 32 but going 2-1 when you struggled to even get on tv in your first 2 seasons, I don't care what you say that's a massive improvement and worthy of a spot in the top 32. Hypershock - Hypershock has been there since the beginning of the reboot, currently I'd say its strongest seasons have been 2 and 4. Hypershock tends to have an off year, they started off bad, got much better, became dreadful, improved, then slightly went down, at this point this inconsistency is normal for hypershock, but all of their opponents were top tier, they beat mammoth, lost to end game and gruff, all 3 are now recognizable names. so i feel Hypershock should stay in the top 32 as well Gruff - Gruff I feel has the weakest case of staying in this, especially when comparing them to last year, Gruff last year was i feel much stronger and despite having a worse record, impressed more last year, it took tombstone to the judges, and lost to a strong copperhead in a split decision and almost took end game to the judges in the desperado before it conked out, compared to that this years gruff you can say beat a weak hypershock, lost convincingly to end game and could've won against extinguisher but its internals didn't last, therefor a weaponless clone beat it. Sub Zero - I feel it has a similar story to P1, its been there since season 2, and hasn't really impressed, its most impressive season was last year where it got sliced by cobalt and flipped P1 out. So considering Sub Zero was known for being a tank that can take damage, but that was about it, much like with P1, going 2-1 is much more improvement, yeah the wins were against weak bots but comparing to previous seasons it does better now than it ever did then Hijinx - Hijinx i feel is safe, but barely, since this was their first season its hard to go off history, so you have to base it off this year, they beat tracer which was weak, and despite being a weak bot, they won CONVINCINGLY and quickly, then they beat chomp, a robot which has a reputation for being deadly af and knocks it out and only has 1 scare in the entire fight where chomp hits them on the head, it may have lost to clawed viper but before we realized how unreliable their drive was, we were all impressed by clawed vipers speed and aggression, and it used that to knock out hijinx. so 2 quick and convincing knockouts, then 1 loss to a robot that initially impressed when they fought. So with all that being said, here's ho i would've done the final 4: 29 - Hypershock 30 - P1 31 - Hijinx 32 - Sub Zero Gruff - Out All the 2-1's are in the tournament, based on prior performance and this years fights it feels more fair, gruff is out cause it didnt impress as much. P1 is in cause its vastly improved compared to prior seasons and showed its worth by being 2-1. Everyone is happy, except all the gruff stans and probably the builders XD (THE CONTROVERSY WILL NEVER END WITH THIS FUCKING SHOW!)
I definitely see the case for gruff missing out. Only issue (which I realized when I started recording) is that gruff did beat hypershock. In every other spot in the bracket I put bots higher than ones they beat. Huge over kraken, kraken over witch Doctor. SawBlaze over whiplash, Whiplash over Valkyrie. With that rule established, gruff has to be over hypershock, especially because they were both 1-2. Of Hypershock was 2-1 but gruff was as 1-2, then you could put hypershock higher. Once I realized that, and realized how tough hypershock’s schedule was, I decided they both needed to make it, even though I still felt like gruff being in didn’t make sense. God damn this shit is hard to do 😂
You made a strong case for SubZero being the one who should have gone out, but they can only fight the the fights they're given. Personally I would have dropped Hypershock. A loosing record including a 2 hit KO and basically a limp Breakdown against Gruff. Instead they have placed a robot with a consistent self righting issue (not just this season) against the most powerful flipper in the tournament. Add in to that that the other contenders bring weapon variety and Hypershock bring an already heavily represented 4WD Vert to the party and I think its them that should have not made it.
Fair shout. I feel like hypershock got in because of their potential. When they’re off their game they’re TERRIBLE. But when they’re good they’re SCARY. And that’s why they made it, they think he’s the most capable of causing an upset
@@barangoal9056 yeh I could see out of those 5, Hypershock is probably the most capable of beating Hydra (although I'm still not sure if Hydra can self right too reliably)
My opinion strength of shedcule is more important then the other because of what you said about the shedcule you get because p1 shouldn’t. Be in on my opinion. E cause he got kicked out in 2 hits
No mention of Tombstone's "strength of schedule?" A win over Slapbox isn't much better than Rusty. And as far as I am concerned, Smee should have been given a JD over Pain Train and been at 2-1 too. edit: And take a look at Mammoth's victories. A great win over Huge (which nearly killed it three times) and then two weapon failures in its other two fights. The team is saying they'll go back to a smaller height next year, so clearly they made design errors. I had it 32 in my hypothetic bracket and the official one didn't do them much better.
I’d be willing to re-evaluate my assessment about mammoth being higher. When editing that bit I realized bits and pieces made less sense 😂 I also agree that smeeee should’ve beaten pain train. After that fight happened there were very few complaints which surprised me I thought I highlighted tombstones schedule but yeah his wasn’t the best. Definitely should’ve been lower than 21
@@barangoal9056 My main contention is this, its not just about if you won or who you beat, but how your bot held up in the fight and if your victory was only because of a dead opponent or if you lost only because one of your parts went down. For example Ghost Raptor beat Chomp... because Chomp ran out of gas. Does that really reflect well on Ghost Raptor? Does it mean that Ghost Raptor would be favored against Chomp if a rematch were to take place? Which bot would another team rather face? Mad Catter beat an opponent which lit itself on fire, an opponent which randomly ended up beached on its butt and, admittedly, got a win over an evenly matched opponent by driving a better fight. So if you look at Mammoth, it had a win over Huge by doing what it was designed to do, tossing it OOTA. But then it was reduced to a spare tubing by Hypershock after being unable to lift it and "randomly" had a chain snap against Deadlift, also having been seemingly unable to lift it. Mammoth is designed to lift and chuck "normal" shaped bots like Hypershock and Deadlift, if it can't do that then the design is a failure and it isn't going to be going far. Compare that with P1, who are designed to flip bots and leave them either OOTA or stuck on the side of the wall. It did that in two of its fights. But P1 has negatives too, and they are big ones. They had drive issues in both of their televised fights, despite one of them only lasting thirty seconds. Their is also a "team ability" issue, where the bot went into fight 3 with a clearly dented flipper. It makes you wonder if they were struggling under deadlines. The Botwhisperer was on a podcast yesterday, where he admitted that they factor things like maintenance ability/sustainability when making top 16/32 selections and I suspect that they might not have liked what they saw with P1 versus a team like Hypershock who always at least look prepared on screen. Of course Gruff entered both of its last two fights looking battleworn, which is why I would have left them outside too. Ultimately, I would have taken all of the 2-1 bots, even ones like SubZero and Mammoth who, I thought, put on poor performances, this season. Next season I suspect they will go back to 4 fights (they wanted 4 fights+round of 32 this season but Covid and Bounty Hunters got in the way) and there will be much less to complain about due to the increased levels that teams can be at (4-0, 3-1, 2-2, etc.)
asI feel as if Perfect Pheonix was robbed, It should have Tombstone's seed, not 27, it's only loss was to scorpios, a bot that in it's last match Beat Tombstone of all bots, that ain't a bot that isn't a bad loss to. and Gruff was just robbed, like, c'mon, it had a dominant win, and if Tombstone can get 21 when it lost in a dominant fashion, And Seriously, Jackpot and Mad catter at 11 and 12? those bots had dominant wins, and are 3-0, Jackpot I expected to be a top seed, around 4 to 5, and Mad catter I expected to be at 6, but the fact that jackpot's schedule was a bit weaker is a valid point In my eyes, Valkyries wins are out of just, Luck, it got a lucky shot against rotator and Tantrum just self destructed, And I agree with you bit about Hijinx, it's only wins we're against bots that weren't in the tournament, and the bot it lost to didn't get into the tournament either. but thats just me. what do you guys think? edit: I'm just pointing out, during the Copperhead vs. Black Dragon fight, Copperhead powered down it's weapon, it didn't turn off, Sorry if you already noticed this, I didn't know either if you we're pointing out to this season or last season. another edit: In a video made by Team Witch Doctor, I remember they said that their wedge for the Gigabyte & Captain Shredderator fight was scraping the floor. just wanna point that out.
I think that’s my final answer as well. Between him and subzero, but in subzero’s defense they lost to the #11 seed. Thin tiebreaker but probably a good enough tiebreaker
@@barangoal9056 i know probably not a popular opinion but way how i saw it before u broke it down 3-0's take the top x number of spots then all 2-1 and then the room for the 1-2s
@@mewmewfan1527 at first I thought people were just being annoying when they bitched about MadCatter and jackpot not being higher, but as you can see I bumped them up 😂 but beta’s season is not worthy of being top 6. Could’ve easily lost to rotator, and had 2 gimme wins. He’s probably placed rightfully in the middle, but I can see why people would disagree lol

So with all that being said, here's ho i would've done the final 4:
29 - Hypershock
30 - P1
31 - Hijinx
32 - Sub Zero
Gruff - Out
All the 2-1's are in the tournament, based on prior performance and this years fights it feels more fair, gruff is out cause it didnt impress as much. P1 is in cause its vastly improved compared to prior seasons and showed its worth by being 2-1. Everyone is happy, except all the gruff stans and probably the builders XD
(THE CONTROVERSY WILL NEVER END WITH THIS FUCKING SHOW!)
God damn this shit is hard to do 😂
gruff lost to whiplash not endgame
@@ryanamburgy2791 watch last year, and look at the wiki
@@The_Seaborg oh last year ok
But it says this year
You made a strong case for SubZero being the one who should have gone out, but they can only fight the the fights they're given.
Someone should make this bracket
No I'm not gonna do it
"witch doctor should be above tombstone, rotator, and witch doctor."
“Do you prefer Witch Doctor or Witch Doctor?”
“Neither. I like Witch Doctor more.”
Yes you are very entertaining thank you for your hard work.
Hyper shock should be where sub zero was
Tombstone gonna make final 4
When editing that bit I realized bits and pieces made less sense 😂
I also agree that smeeee should’ve beaten pain train. After that fight happened there were very few complaints which surprised me
I thought I highlighted tombstones schedule but yeah his wasn’t the best.
I would replace hijinx with p1
asI feel as if Perfect Pheonix was robbed, It should have Tombstone's seed, not 27, it's only loss was to scorpios, a bot that in it's last match Beat Tombstone of all bots, that ain't a bot that isn't a bad loss to. and Gruff was just robbed, like, c'mon, it had a dominant win, and if Tombstone can get 21 when it lost in a dominant fashion, And Seriously, Jackpot and Mad catter at 11 and 12? those bots had dominant wins, and are 3-0, Jackpot I expected to be a top seed, around 4 to 5, and Mad catter I expected to be at 6, but the fact that jackpot's schedule was a bit weaker is a valid point In my eyes, Valkyries wins are out of just, Luck, it got a lucky shot against rotator and Tantrum just self destructed, And I agree with you bit about Hijinx, it's only wins we're against bots that weren't in the tournament, and the bot it lost to didn't get into the tournament either. but thats just me. what do you guys think? edit: I'm just pointing out, during the Copperhead vs.
Doesn't this guys kinda look like the actor that plays Deke Shaw in agents of shield?
Maybe the less handsome stunt double but yeah I can see it 😂
hey you stole my bracket
the final four at least
@@ryanamburgy2791 I gotta go back and look at yours now? That’s a bit mental 🤔😂

SPOILER
lol both of your finalist predictions got eliminated in the first 2 rounds
Mad cater should be 4
Tombstone K.O. Mad Catter!
Hijinx should of missed out in place for p1
@@barangoal9056 u changed my opinion
@@barangoal9056 No no no no. Subzero most certainly out for P1.
get rid of Hijinx, Subzero, and Gruff and replace them with P1, Rusty, and Extinguisher
Hijinx out
Boodra should of been 6th seed behind beta
Hijinx need to be removed for Big Dill.
Hmmm. I should’ve looked up his stats compared to the rest. I was too focused on P1 🤔
Hydra shouldn't have been #1 - no KO's, all JD's.

Hijinx out
Uppercut will take care of that 😂
