  • Charlie talks about the process of actually getting an idea onto TV. He reviews 24, Deal or No Deal and breakfast TV and he discusses TV giving itself a pat on the back. Dr Ben Goldacre discusses "bad" science on television.

Charlie Brooker speaking the praises of Mr. Show & Arrested Development = best 20 seconds ever.

I've just finished reading Ben Goldacre's book, Bad Science. It really is an eye opener to the extent of bullshit in the media regarding science. Particularly when it comes to health shows/news articles.

I owe Charlie Brooker for introducing me to 15 Storeys High and Arrested Development. They are so brilliant.

It's depressing that youtube and facebook are actually much better sources for the kind of science material than television these days. Channels like Vsauce, Ifuckinglovescience, Veritasium, Minutephysics and The Hybrid Librarian do much better jobs of presenting scientific theorem and discoveries in a concise and entertaining way than television has done outside of Attenborough documentaries for decades.

mojotheaverage Simply because the Internet is thankfully a (near-enough) free medium of communication. As Brooker said in the previous episode, making any television show comes at a massive budget- the only budget posting on the internet requires is decent broadband. Television and the Internet operate very differently. The freedom of the Internet allows next to no censorship of information and communication, or control in a lot of areas.

I think it's kind of a study in how TV can affect your perception of something fairly pedestrian, making it seem extremely sinister, through the magic of editing.

I'm surprised at his recommendation of Mr. Show. I know everyone has their own personal taste but I'm really shocked that he's a fan. I've tried to like it because I really like both David Cross and Bob Odenkirk but I find it utterly puerile and embarrassingly devoid of humour. There are many episodes on TH-cam for anyone that hasn't seen it.
