Wow... That was like a blast from the past. I played Riven shortly after it was first released in '97... I was about 8 years old! Heheheh. Good video :)
To Dwojy18 - "above average" visual details? This game was made in 1997, and it still looks incredible after 11 years. One of the most visually stunning games I've ever seen.
God knows how many hours, days and time I spent on this game when I was younger. Deffenitly a great game that probably (in puzzle level) never will get beaten and your run of it is great too. Deffenitly a good work :D
That island that has the water bubble machine for the 5 islands. If you turn around, whichever Island you selected will have a 3d makeup in the machine behind it. From there, you have to select the right coordinates to find the fire domes on each island. Wherever the fire dome is on that 5 x 5 map is where the specific colored marble for that island goes on the 5 x 5 marble tablet on Temple Island.
@janX9 This is why reading is not only fundamental; it's essential. Catherine's journal showed you that there was a stop at the bottom left leg of the telescope.
Wow - that's a lot of work! It took my buddy and I about 6 hours to go through the walkthrough back in '98 or so - I read from the official guide while he worked the mouse...
atrus has escaped the island twice both times using a linking book over the fissure. Once was when he was younger and escaping to myst and once that you see at the end of this.
It is revealed in Uru that debris from riven's collapse ended up in the New Mexico desert, near the original cleft where Atrus grew up. This is also probably how the Myst book got in your hands. Tomahna is somewhere nearby, though how you figure out where it is, or how atrus knows you'll be able to find him, is a mystery.
hardest part was that fricken marble machine to turn on the fire domes (gehns linking books) Tay was probably the coolest age in all of Myst in my opinion, even though you spend barely anytime at all there XD
Brilliant! And it took me nearly a month. I had no idea you could do it so quickly. I don't know if Gehn took too kindly to you playing with his nose though...
Am I the only one that sees the extreme irony in doing a speedrun of an exploration game like Riven? Next you should do a speedrun of Dear Esther or Skyrim or Knytt or something. Well done.
@AWGMJANS I thought about that, but they'd have to adjust how the sunbathing leoplurodons work 'cause they're behavior depends on approaching them in gradual stages.
One of those things. It was a whark in gehn's underwater observatory, you needed it to figure out the colours of the marbles i the huge dome puzzle, but this guys finished the game without going to islands 3 & 4. Quick, but not fun
Yes, Thank You =3 But I Didnt Played Myst V Nor Uru: Ages Beyond Myst As Well. I Wasnt Really Attracted To The Fifth One Since Its Fully CG Instead Of Beautiful Images With Live Action Actors.
This game just seems like it's just walking around and randomly pulling different levers and pressing the occasional button. Only reason I played it is for the ambient soundtrack and above average visual details in parts of the game.
@259 Oh, I'm aware of that, but I kinda skimmed through the journal pretty quickly. I noticed the picture when I fist looked at it, but forgot, by the time I got to the end. Riven is pretty easy now that I have beaten it a few times.
i no me 2!!!too bad it duznt work on my comp man i couldnt even get to disk 4 lol i had no idea ther was so much of this game i missed man it was awesome...
riven is the BEST ONE.. SO immersive, design, puzzles, atmosphere, everything really. however, I disagree with most people, I thought exile had the BEST puzzles of the series (aside from Riven's, which were almost impossible sometimes) and I thought revelations was awful, but looked great. I wasn't a fan of end of ages really at all, and the puzzles weren't great... full 3D totally ruined it
just wondering, if you go to map island through the wark idol secret passage on jungle island, then go to gehn's lab through map island tram, can you skip the boiler puzzle and all that stuff on gehn's lab island?
1:32-2:03 - Hey, you! Hey! Hey, go in the book. The book! You! Book! Touch it, touch it, touch it, dammit, YOU! IDIOT! TOUCH THE DAMN BOOK, oh give me that.
Actually, you land in somewhere in New Mexico, Earth. One would presume you get to Tomahna via a link from Atrus, though in actuality, Tomahna is located on the surface of Earth.
I loved this series of games. Seemed to loose something by Myst III... Hated Uru interface. Played first 5min of Myst IV and thought it has totally lost its original character.
Why does the video go black and white at 1:12? and @ 4:30 some too... ? XD the second he showed you the book you just SHOVED your hand right in lol The game has THE BEST sound effects of ANY video game ON THE PLANET They just ROCK Atrus kicks ass
Since I Never Finished Riven, But Finished The Other Ones, I Never Understand Why Atrus Left You On Riven During Its Destruction. Can Somebody Explain Me, Please?
Wow... this game took away so many hours of my life, it's quite fun to watch it all done in 14 minutes. Nice work!
i love how the fissure was contained by that minuscule piece of glass!

Aaah! Sweet memories... Saves me the hassle of playing the whole game through again just to enjoy the ending!
Gotta love the impatient circling around Gehn's head.
this game was absurdly beautiful
I love how you spin the pointer around his head while he's reading it. Hilarious.
Nice vid, too!

best of the five myst games, hands down. thx for this video.

2:02 - LOL! Ghen goes to tell you to go into the book. But you just lunge your hand out and touch it instantly!

THE BEST GAME EVER MADE!!!!
They should restyle it in realtime 3d
maybe add a few puzzles
@AWGMJANS

3:59 the first time I played Riven, I didn't see that pin stop that keeps the telescope from breaking through the glass. What A Pain!
Yes, Thank You =3 But I Didnt Played Myst V Nor Uru: Ages Beyond Myst As Well. I Wasnt Really Attracted To The Fifth One Since Its Fully CG Instead Of Beautiful Images With Live Action Actors.
Yeah, i also get those hand twitches when a cut scene is going. :P
I once tried to pick his nose with the hand marker. XD

I'm pretty sure they came out with an X-Box(no, not the 360 one) version of Myst III: Exile
I´ve laughed so much on 1:54 :D
thanks
@motion9041 If you paid any attention to Atrus' commentary at the end, you would know that he believes that the fissure will take you home.
Wow, I never realized that moving the cursor around Gehn's head made the cutscene go by quicker. ;)

Wow, I thought I'd be the only one that would think of doing a Riven Speed run...
...but clicking randomly on the dome part was pretty lame...
3 weeks? try 3 months for me (and had to use a walkthrough!) the puzzles were amazingly logical though but omg so hard.!
just wondering, if you go to map island through the wark idol secret passage on jungle island, then go to gehn's lab through map island tram, can you skip the boiler puzzle and all that stuff on gehn's lab island?
The riven looks like a v-jj lol

so wut ur saying is that u put each marble in each box ob the grid or u have to put them in there proper spot
I loved this series of games. Seemed to loose something by Myst III... Hated Uru interface. Played first 5min of Myst IV and thought it has totally lost its original character.
I can't get inside the dome, from where do you now the dome code those small sticks whitch you ener at 0:32
Ha ha! Got a little impatient around 1:30, did we?
Myst and Riven were fun. I didn't like Myst 3 or Myst 5...I think the series fell into unspetacular decay when Myst 3 was released.
I KNOW RITE??
Why does the video go black and white at 1:12?
and @ 4:30 some too... ?
XD the second he showed you the book you just SHOVED your hand right in lol
The game has THE BEST sound effects of ANY video game ON THE PLANET
They just ROCK
Atrus kicks ass
u shouldnt of skipped the rollercoaster parts.. they're the best parts of the whole game!
Since I Never Finished Riven, But Finished The Other Ones, I Never Understand Why Atrus Left You On Riven During Its Destruction. Can Somebody Explain Me, Please?
I just beat it in a week without walkthroughs or cheating. Though I did have to think very very hard about it XD.
what was the point of this game i mean i had it and played it. but i was only like nine years old when i played it
ya me2
weenie
myst, the most pointless game ever made. is there an object to that game?
