1:32-2:03 - Hey, you! Hey! Hey, go in the book. The book! You! Book! Touch it, touch it, touch it, dammit, YOU! IDIOT! TOUCH THE DAMN BOOK, oh give me that.
Am I the only one that sees the extreme irony in doing a speedrun of an exploration game like Riven? Next you should do a speedrun of Dear Esther or Skyrim or Knytt or something. Well done.
I´ve laughed so much on 1:54 :D
for 1997 its good graphics
oikay it's official. Next time I trip I am getting this game off Steam and re-living my childhood.
@EventuallyWeMerge LOL I Actually do have ADD. But for some reason, these sorts of games keep me pretty well focused LOL
i owned this game since it came out and could never figure out the elevator maze...even with the strategy guide
Wow, this game is so long. I can't imagine how long it would take for someone to complete this game without knowing where to go like this guy does.
@janX9 This is why I always failed at these games, cuz I have A.D.D. lol
Takes away from the magic of the game.
Pause it at 2:54-2:55 and tell me what that thing is looking at me
@motion9041 If you paid any attention to Atrus' commentary at the end, you would know that he believes that the fissure will take you home.
what was the point of this game i mean i had it and played it. but i was only like nine years old when i played it
Is this sped up at all? Or is it actual speed.?
@259 Oh, I'm aware of that, but I kinda skimmed through the journal pretty quickly. I noticed the picture when I fist looked at it, but forgot, by the time I got to the end. Riven is pretty easy now that I have beaten it a few times.
@janX9 This is why reading is not only fundamental; it's essential. Catherine's journal showed you that there was a stop at the bottom left leg of the telescope.
3:59 the first time I played Riven, I didn't see that pin stop that keeps the telescope from breaking through the glass. What A Pain!
7:02 DAMN that button! I played through riven recently and forgot about that button after pulling the lever!!! I was wondering why it wasn't working for half an hour. I just kept wandering Riven, thinking I had done something wrong...just forgot to push a button. Don't you just hate missing those small details that set you back?
Awesome video! You must have had to play and finish this game several times before you could know exactly where to click next on each screen.
2:02 - LOL! Ghen goes to tell you to go into the book. But you just lunge your hand out and touch it instantly!
@AWGMJANS I thought about that, but they'd have to adjust how the sunbathing leoplurodons work 'cause they're behavior depends on approaching them in gradual stages.
Ha ha! Got a little impatient around 1:30, did we?
yeahh i know its like from a horror movie...
what the HELL is with that child at 2:55??
To Dwojy18 - "above average" visual details? This game was made in 1997, and it still looks incredible after 11 years. One of the most visually stunning games I've ever seen.
Riven seems to have a lot of problems running with newer versions of Windows. I have Vista, never had XP, run Riven on my old computer with WinME. I hear the solution involves installing an older version of Quicktime in a directory where Riven can see it. If you need more help, go to Ubisoft Riven forums. I think they have a sticky note on it.
Gees, things brings back memories of clicking and going back and forth. Very addicting.
I can't get inside the dome, from where do you now the dome code those small sticks whitch you ener at 0:32
I bought this the day it came out,and it took me about six years to beat for the first time. ...And I got the bad ending, too...
This game just seems like it's just walking around and randomly pulling different levers and pressing the occasional button. Only reason I played it is for the ambient soundtrack and above average visual details in parts of the game.
Aren't those unskippable stare-at-a-button-while-sound-effects-play scenes just intolerable? :)
u shouldnt of skipped the rollercoaster parts.. they're the best parts of the whole game!
Yes, Thank You =3 But I Didnt Played Myst V Nor Uru: Ages Beyond Myst As Well. I Wasnt Really Attracted To The Fifth One Since Its Fully CG Instead Of Beautiful Images With Live Action Actors.
The riven looks like a v-jj lol
Why does the video go black and white at 1:12? and @ 4:30 some too... ? XD the second he showed you the book you just SHOVED your hand right in lol The game has THE BEST sound effects of ANY video game ON THE PLANET They just ROCK Atrus kicks ass
I KNOW RITE??
damn this game is awesome and you're rapin it lol
Since I Never Finished Riven, But Finished The Other Ones, I Never Understand Why Atrus Left You On Riven During Its Destruction. Can Somebody Explain Me, Please?
That island that has the water bubble machine for the 5 islands. If you turn around, whichever Island you selected will have a 3d makeup in the machine behind it. From there, you have to select the right coordinates to find the fire domes on each island. Wherever the fire dome is on that 5 x 5 map is where the specific colored marble for that island goes on the 5 x 5 marble tablet on Temple Island.
hardest part was that fricken marble machine to turn on the fire domes (gehns linking books) Tay was probably the coolest age in all of Myst in my opinion, even though you spend barely anytime at all there XD
I just beat it in a week without walkthroughs or cheating. Though I did have to think very very hard about it XD.
This is pointless. You're just skipping all the great videos!
Wow, I never realized that moving the cursor around Gehn's head made the cutscene go by quicker. ;)
this game was absurdly beautiful
The graphics absolutely blew me away back then, looked so lifelike. Of course, now that I'm older i realize that it was all pre rendered with quicktime movies embedded, but even going back and playing today is still an enjoyable experience.
this one is my second favorite of the series, the first being exile.
I too was 5, scary music just like you said, could never figure out these puzzles on my own had to ask my older sister, when i was 9 i couldn't get past 4:01 , great graphics for the time maybe only crysis comes close?
thanks
just wondering, if you go to map island through the wark idol secret passage on jungle island, then go to gehn's lab through map island tram, can you skip the boiler puzzle and all that stuff on gehn's lab island?
Gotta love the impatient circling around Gehn's head.
