good video. Today is Aug 12 2021. Just ordered one on the 8th. Mine is the Ryzen 7 with vega 10 and 512g M2. Good to see you can upgrade them. I will see how the shared memory works out and decide if i want to upgrade from the 8g. The very first thing i will do is get rid of all the bloatware by reformatting and installing Linux. Been an Apple fan for a while but i cannot trust them anymore. Going to dump my iMac and Macbook Air and go all Linux. The Dell will replace the Macbook and in a month i will get a new Desktop. I have a windows machine with a Intel 8700k and 2070 super but that is 100 percent gaming.
I wouldn’t go for Linux when ur setting it up you have the option to upgrade to windows 11. And u can get rid of the bloatware without getting Linux but u can go with Linux ur choice
I have the same ryzen 5 3500u dell 3505 Even with the thermal paste changed to mx4 and a 5 fan laptop cooler under it It still get super hot The vents are definitely to small
i have this laptop with ryzen 7 and 512 m2. the good thing aboout the m.2 is its nmve not sata so it is superfast. i installed 32gb 3600mhz ram and 1tb ssd. the only bad about it is the vega 8. gta on low settings can only run about 15 fps, but games like titanfall and older games run without issue. I have it hooked up to a 32'' 4k tv. streaming 4k movies from netflix is no issue. hulu, disney+, etc. very capable for all around usage.
4:27 just brought this laptop from currys , it's not gigabit ethernet it's 10/100mb. Also have noticed that it say 8gb of ram but only 5.7gb is usable. Looked in the bios not can't see a way to change it. Feels like I've been ripped off.
The Vega graphics is using system memory so that's why it reports as 5.7GB usable. You are also correct about the RJ45 ethernet adapter! Not sure why on earth they'd ship with only 10/100Mbit!
@@FrimleyComputing is there a way I can reduce vega graphics and give more to system memory, as I run vm when I'm messing around with Linux distros?. Also it's just stupid why dell have added 10/100mb card. Who the hell uses 10/100mb card these days lol. I understand if it was a old device or a smart home device that don't need gigabit
There two ways of expanding it. First off, we have an old-school 2.5-inch SATA drive bay, as well as an M.2 PCIe x4 slot so additional DATA storage could be done via the SATA 2.5" SSD slot and the M.2 drive can be replaced with a higher capacity boot/OS drive.
Thank you for all the info. I've seen reviews where people say ventilation is really bad and the computer gets too hot. Have you encountered this problem?
4:16 By 'gigabit network connection', do you mean the data rate of the Ethernet port goes up to 1000 Mbps? I see on the specs that the data rate of the port is 10/100 only.
Oh! You are correct... I've amended the description on this video. I'm so used to everything having gigabit ports nowadays. Why on earth would Dell ship a laptop with only a 10/100 port? Thank you for spotting this.
@@zName1 I guess the only thing you could do would be to buy a USB gigabit network adapter. They work really well and is a must for laptops that don't come with a built in rj45 port.
Hi sir, thanks for this video. I have purchased this laptop, and I'm encountering issue regarding the gaming part. I tried to run nba 2k22 and Tekken 7 at low settings but it's still lagging. The specs of my laptop is ryzen 5, vega 8, 12gb ram and 1tb hdd. Do you encountered the same when you try to use it in game?
No surprise there as those are graphic-heavy games and he did mention that while you can play older games, this isn't really a gaming laptop - at least not in recent time. You should consider getting a laptop with a dedicated GPU that meets the normal or recommended requirements for the games you want to play.
Thanks for your video. The motherboard supports a frequency of 2400MHz and the notebook comes with a factory RAM of 1X8GB 3200MHz, working at 2400MHz. If I add another 2400MHz RAM, can dual channel be enabled? Will I have a problem because both RAMs are of different frequency, but they both working at 2400MHz? Cheers, mate!
That's a great question! I'm not sure about the stock mixed speeds of the RAM and if dual channel is enabled when using a non matched pair of SODIMMs. Personally I'd always opt for a matched pair to be sure. A matched pair of 16GB sticks definitely moves you to dual channel mode.
Hi, might be a little late here, but it will go to dual-channel since that's what you put in it, the performance implications of the memory won't be as high as a matched pair but the performance loss in negligible, cheers!
