  • I install a Rugged Ridge Modular XHD Snorkel on my 2016 Jeep JKU. I picked this kit because it goes under the fender and there is room for the Genesis Dual Battery Kit and the Smittybilt roof rack. I had to get to bolts for the side of the window frame that were about an 1/8th inch longer. But it fit!

    Thanks for the video! I've been looking at the rugged ridge snorkel for a while and just purchased it. I have the rugged ridge dual battery tray in my setup and also have the smittybilt roof rack. You're the first person I have seen do this snorkel with that roof rack.

      Thank you for the comment. The roof rack did make the snorkel install a little harder. You need two of the side bolts to be just a little bit longer. And you really have to press the bitten plastic part into the well. Hope the video helped and good luck!

      If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to go with the RR dual battery tray vs the Gensis?

      @@timothycarroll9158 Hi Timothy,
      The Dual Battery Tray is a Genesis. The Snorkel is Rugged Ridge. The Rugged Ridge Snorkel is the only one that I found goes under and around the dual battery tray while inside the fender. I'm not a fan of the ones that go down the side of the hood and in. Although I'm sure their easier to install.

      @@timothycarroll9158 I had planned on going with the rugged ridge snorkel and the rr tray is designed to work with it. Plus it was cheaper.

    I removed the passenger side tire with it on a jack stand.Made it easier to get to the fender bolts and was easier to do the install of the tube.

    Great video, have the same roof rack and about to install my snorkel today.
    What do you use to mount your shovel and recovery boards on the roof rack? I currently have my recovery boards in the same location, but just tied down with ratchet straps.

      Hi Ryan, thanks for the comment. I made my own mounts using 2” muffler clamps and some 1” flat steel. With rubber mounts from Amazon. Here is the video link:

      I’m working on a mount for my traction boards on the spare tire rack. Unfortunately not a lot of mounting options on the market for this rack. Enjoy the snorkel!

    Did you put the drain tube on? Mine did not come with it so I'm wondering if it is necessary

      Hi! Yes, I did install the drain tube but I've never had to use it. Did yours have a port to attach it and just didn't come with the tube?

    How's the wind noise with the snorkel on?

    • @aj.adventures
      @aj.adventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to bad. The roof rack wind noise drowns everything out, lol. It does make the engine sound more growly when you give’r the juice though. I haven’t noticed any wind noise from the snorkel

    What kinda light's do you have mounted on that roof rack?

    • @aj.adventures
      @aj.adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheap Amazon lights lol, but they’ve worked for a few years now. One day I’ll upgrade to something brighter.

    Guys are saying it starts to fade in the sun...how has it been holding up for you?

    • @aj.adventures
      @aj.adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I've had it about a year now and I haven't noticed any fading. There are treatments for vehicle plastics that can rejuvenate the look. If it happens.

      Yeah man! Once I get the air tank installed I’ll be looking at a couple tools for the trail.

    I was stuck between this and injen's and after seeing this install i will GLADLY be going with injen. Why the hell would you want your ALUMINUM intake tube to run inches from your exhaust? Did the engineers at rugged ridge never hear about heat soak? More importantly if your clamps fail the silicone eventually will too and with that design if you dont notice it youre screwed. Great company, great idea with the modularity, Terrible design.

    • @aj.adventures
      @aj.adventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. I guess I didn’t show it very good but there is a heat shield between the intake and exhaust. To me it makes a great cold air intake, lol. I’ve had a few water crossings with it and I have no complaints. The Injen looks like a good snorkel and to each there own. I went with this one because it goes under my dual battery and I’m not a fan of the arm down the fender. Good luck with your install!
