I love watching videos of people showing off their interiors, it gets me all excited. Then I remember I have a soft top and have to leave my jeep in a parking lot from 2:30pm to 12am at least 5 nights a week.
I'm also running the Vector across my dash; love that thing. One thing I did for power to accessories (e.g. phone, GPS, iPad, etc) is to run a USB hub up to the dash. This allows me to run short USB cables just for power as needed.
Enjoyed your video Brad. I just wanted to let you know you need to do 1 thing that might save your life. IF you ever Roll your Jeep. You will want to either move your Seatbelt cutter OR Velcro it to the Console Lid or inside it. Reason; IF you roll it and you go to open it up...where is the knife going to when the console is opened-up? Out of the Console and on the roof or the door....And, You would be lucky to ever catch it when that happen's. Just an Tip is all.
Bartact makes a seatbelt wrap that has two straps on it. Great place to mount a seat belt cutter. In a roll over, it’s on your chest. If you can reach the seatbelt that needs cut, you can reach the tool.
Nice video, you mention how the inserts into the top cut down on the heat and cold, but bot the noise. The only way to cut down on the noise is to insulate the interior sheet metal, floors, doors (skins and interior supports) Also wheel wells on the outside... Makes a huge difference.
Just bought the new 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Willys EcoDiesel in Sarge Green. Came to this video looking for great ideas and wasn't disappointed. Cant wait to get some of these installed!
This whole video was just a rock solid vid. I truly loved it. It explained all the rock solid interior designs. The rock solid leather seats and all. Your just a rock solid man. I just gave a rock solid like and comment.
Hey Brad, I'm picking my JL tomorrow night, my first Jeep coming from a Tacoma PreRunner. YOU have literally inspired me to get in to the Jeep life, so thank you for all your videos. I'm also in North County San Diego, so maybe I'll meet you someday on the trails!
Just bought my first Jeep Wrangler unlimited. I could tell you're former military, just with all the communication in your jeep. It all reminded me of my days with Fire Rescue, Especially the rocker switches overhead.
ARB Dual Compressor: 37" from 15psi to 30psi, all 4 wheels in 7min. I couldn't be happier with that. Thanks for for your walk around Brad. Can't imagine to commute in my Jeep every day for 2h. There are for sure sure cars out there to do that task more in style. Hope to meet you one day out there on So Cal trails. Want to promote your barber too? You are always super sleek! ;-)
You need the Vgate obd Bluetooth adapter and the OBD JSCAN app. I love it. Was able to reprogram the BCM to teach it, the customer replaced the headlamps assembly with built-in LEDs. Blinker would stop before reprogramming.
This channel inspired me to pick up a new JLU Rubicon. Been setting up for overlanding and as my dedicated astronomy bug-out vehicle. Thanks for the awesome content really enjoying the videos.
Hey Brad and Regina really like the content of your channel. Very informative and straight to the point of the equipment pros and cons. Honest refreshing. Thank you for your service to our country.🗽🪖🇺🇸
I'm happy you got your ham license, I recently bought a 2018 2 door JK Wrangler and you're giving me great ideas for modifications. I have a Yaesu FTM-300D to install.
Gotta say Brad I'm really digging the Gaia maps. Best part is it works on my existing IPAD Mini. Prior to Gaia, the IPAD has been indespensible for pilot use, as I load charts from a program called foreflight onto it. Now I can utlize it to acomplish two different things.
I’ll second you on the seatbelt cutter. As a former Army Flight Medic these little tools come in handy when you have to extract someone from their vehicle.
Hi Brad, long time Jeeper and SAR guy here. Loved the video and appreciate your efforts and hard work. Please accept my comments from experience and personal impressions. My intent is from a place of respect. In the event of a collision your setup concerns me. One of the things you want to be sure to think about is flying interior "debris" (your audience needs to be aware). The dash crossbar strikes me as a point of potential injury. I love the idea but....A-Pillars are "fairly" strong but when compromised anything attached will be at the mercy of force..think chrome moly and welded, think Baja racing :) Manufactures (Jeep ) go to great extremes to reduce potential occupant injury. No-one expects the worst scenarios, but they can and do happen. Any accessories above the chest/torso, in the event of a collision or mutliple rollover can compromise or exacerbate the inability of airbags to function properly (interference/puncture) and severely injure occupants. My advice is keep the driver compartment as clean and uncluttered as possible. All of my electronic accessories are either secured via A-Pillar mounted, under dash, or under seat. I am curious about the Ipad and why the need to be mounted externally when there SO many in dash units on the market that interface with smaller form factor smart devices, GPS included. Regarding your SPOT device, I have carried one for years. I hunt, fish and "wheel" in very remote areas of Washington state. Please consider this an "On-person" device. The dash is not a place for this device, particularly trying to find it in panic mode and full of Adrenalin. I would also recommend "carry out insurance" in the event air transport is needed. Seat belt cutters....first aid kit, each door, secure to your headliners, familiarize your riders and occupants they need to be EASY reach. Wheel safe my friend love your Jeep and your hard work. Most Sincerely...
Excellent video, might be a good idea mounting the seatbelt cutter, if you’re upside down and open the centre console chances are the seat belt cutter will fall and possibly be out of reach
Great video...just bought my first Jeep. Bare bones, gently used. Looking to add over time. This was a great overview and allowed me to start a list. Thank you....
Hey Brad just a thought that may help you with the decision of putting that slider in. The first time you almost roll, completely roll. Come across an obstacle that you have to hit because you either didn't see it or came up to fast on it. That cooler is gonna smash around and break a window or hit a passenger or the cooler just gets destroyed. With the slider you wont have to strap and unstrap every time you need to open it. It will be in one place and will be one less thing to worry about in the event of a mishap. Hope this helps.
About the fridg loose in the back. I suggest that you anchor it to the back for safety reason and all the loose stuff that you put in the back like using sort of cam net.
Something I recommend is attaching a seatbelt cutter onto the base of your seatbelt itself. Then whoever you need it it’ll be within arms reach and always in the same spot even if you roll over
Glad to see a fellow ham operator just purchased our 2nd jeep 1st one was a cj5 1975 model got a gladiator 500 miles on it ..1st time viewer...kg4avh..
Love your content. Extremely useful and complete ! FYI you don’t need an iPad with GSM , you use your phone as a hotspot and link your iPad to your phone .
Great video - Just found your series and had to laugh as most of interior mods were what I have just installed in my 2018 JKU recon. I though i was original, nothing like finding a youtube video explaining how to create your "creation" after the fact. I use the RAM mount claws on the vector bar to move things around easier, and ran SOOW 14-2 cable on the outlet of my inverter to supply 12V and 120v to back of my jeep under the paneling. My small inverter (800w non true sine) is mounted below the glove box and is routed through the foam filled hole with 2 GA 40 strand cable with 120 amp waterproof breaker at battery (30 bucks). My cheaper version of s pod (rugged ridge) I cut the plugs, waterproofed splices using SOOW 14-2 cords (made better harness) to control pillar lights , aux 12v and 120 to front and back for a nice clean pro set up. the cable was cheaper (.92 cents/foot) than going to autozone and buying 1 of 2 stands of 14 gauge generic wire and saved me from making a harness - plus with a little soapy water, I was able to pull 4 cables through the foam filled holes (which I filled with "Great Stuff fireblock and grommeted ) and around the lip easily - and it is waterproof, and is rated for 600v. I would recommend you relocate that inverter right away under your seat in case it rains or area gets wet for a small one you mount under the metal bracket below the glove box - and have a nice access to run it through panels or into dash easily and neatly plus if you have big hands and fat fingers - it is an easy install for a novice . I really enjoy your series and look forward to your other videos in the future.
Great video Brad. Just an FYI, Yaesu makes ham radios that broadcasts APRS. APRS is a system that can be used to track your location (go to aprs.fi), as well as send messages. And its... free.
I definitely agree with the seats, I just bought a 2014 jku and it’s my first real vehicle. Im used to riding in my moms trd offroad premium 4runner and the seats in the jeep are so much worse. I just can’t get comfy sitting in them and for some reason they hurt my lower back
Hey Brad, I've been fumbling around with electronics during my off road adventures for years, and I have a box full of broken, shaky, and purchased but uninstalled device holders to show for it. But thanks to several yoo-toobers and especially thanks to you I just ordered a whole new "system" for Christmas. I got the JK Vector Off road cross bar, and some 67 designs mounts for the phone and some ram mount stuff and 67 designs components to mount my Samsung Tab A to the Cross bar. Like you I find all the current GPS based equipment, even the most expensive units designed for off road, lacking features and functionality and being incredibly behind the curve technologically speaking. Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Keep up the rockin video's. Hope to catch you in the Eastern Sierra sometime some!
Hi Brad, just joined you channel. Although I am a green blooded Land Rover man I think your Jeep addiction is great. I too am evolving my vehicle. Had it 15 years now & still changing stuff as I move forward. Ypu have some amazing kit available in the US. I am trying to a Power Tank over here in England. I also have the Rhino Rack roof rack, nice piece of kit. Looking forward to more footage . Regards Nick aka Non Stick Nick
Would you consider making a video going through the various options presented on the Jeep website where one can "Build & Price" a Wrangler Sahara model and making recommendations for new buyers.
Nice set-up you have there! After 13 years with my TJ, I'm still taking stuff out and putting other stuff in! I moved my HAM head unit to where you have your spod module. It's easier for me to glance up at the frequency and other info on the display, as opposed to at the lower part of the center-dash area. I also just re-installed a rear mini-trunk enclosure that secures to the interior across the rear wheel wells, and against the tailgate. I removed it about ten years ago and now I need it again. lol
Hi Brad, I got hit by a drunk driver at 100+ mph while traveling 55 and it flipped my Jeep over and caught on fire. I was stuck upside down and locked into me seat by my seatbelt. I was hanging upside down for over 20 minutes fearing I was going to be burned alive or hit by another motorist. I now have three seat belt cutters in every vehicle I own, in fact I think it should be required as part as your yearly inspection. Thank god the first responder had a sear belt cutter.
Mountain bikers use C02 for fixing flats quickly. It's very quick, however the issue is that the molecules are smaller than standard oxygen and so the air leaks out faster. But, MTB tires are much smaller than any vehicle tires so I believe there is much less of an issue for a Jeep.
If you're were looking into sound deadening you can line the interior of the doors and the floor with dyno matt. I'm sure you know about this but just giving a heads up.
Thanks for the detailed video on your interior. You have many things that I would want on my off road vehicle if I plan to be off in the wilderness on my own.
Hey Brad... Great VLog again... I really always look forward to Your next one... Have bought things You have Recommended, and Tested ( I really Love My KC Lights)... I too do some of the things You recommend... One, try and Never Wheel alone... When doing so I always Wheel with the Guy (Like You) that has all the things needed for Safe Off Roading... Really Helps keep the Costs down! 😆
I have a 2 meter Icom 4100a and a Yaesu 857D with a 20M hamstick in my 2018 JKU. AZ rocky road dual antenna mount. Lots of bonding/grounding. I've reached South Island New Zealand from Illinois (8,300 Miles). WB9WB call sign.
Does it tune up good with the 2 antennas so close? I have the 857D and am going to run it in my 2018 JKU and use the 857D 2M and HF. I thought about a Tarheel Screwdriver but realized the price for a 20M and 40M hamsticks are much better, just have to carry the MFJ tuner with to change them up. W1ECM
Yes, you have to play a bit with the length of the 20M Hamstick antenna to get the SWR right. I can reach western eurpope, russia, south america and like I mentioned the Pacific at night from Southern Illinois. The trick is bonding. You really have to do your work making sure the exhaust, motor, battery, frame, body, etc. is bonded. I didn't bond the doors because its a Jeep. ;-) I put the 20M on the passenger side so I can make it though most drive-thru fast food places without an issue.
Brad , you put very cool videos on your site, I am hoping to get a Rubicon jeep here one day in the near future is my plan and dream. I also have a friend also who has one. If I am ever able to get one ,. I would hope to go out with you and your friend Marko. I have only been on a couple of trails with a different friend.
I just ordered my vector mounting bar tonight! I’m so excited to install it. However I could not order the 67 mount because it’s out of stock so I have to wait. I guess it’s a really popular mount. I just subbed and I love this channel I have found so many mods I’m gonna do in my Jeep aside from the normal lift tires and regear. I love my Jeep so much and now I can make it even better!
Great Video, one observation seat belt cutter in the center console, if upside down when you open it gravity will send it anywhere, perhaps velcro to roll bar in arm's length might be a better option. Secondly, consider a glass breaker option. Have fun, keep the shiny side up. God Bless
So what is the best way to power all of your accessories? Would you install a separate battery or just mount the biggest battery you can fit and wire everything to it?
Nice interior upgrades Brad. I recently switched over to CO2 as well for speed and ease but kept my ARB dual setup under the passenger’s seat as a backup. You know the old saying, two is one and one is none. I went with 2 ten pound tanks as my wife and I routinely go on week long trips and this will allow enough for those long trips. Mike
Technically, you need a HAM license to use that Baofeng... It too can link to relay stations. We use them here in Fl. when out ridin' I had to get a license...which like you stated...is really easy to get... Those Baofengs are great little radios... Love the lay out you got up front and great recommendations on items to have with you. You gave me some ideas to do for my YJ... Great Vid!!!
I bought the same seatbelt cutter after watching the rollover video and keep mine in the same place as yours. I also have one attached to my first aid kit. Another cool video! Thanks.
My guess is you don't take the top off? Or just the freedom panels, possibly. I would love to do more trails, but I don't live in an area that has a lot of that close by.
Great video, Brad! You know, talking about interiors, have you ever done a video addressing the dreaded Jeep leaks? I looked thru your list of videos (I didn't know there were that many) but didn't see anything that would refer to that. I have them; hell, most of us have had them at one point or another. I would like to hear what you and other Jeep owners have done and what has worked for them. So, if you could, please in the future, address this issue, even if you have never had them. It'll get people talking about it. Thanks, keep 'em coming.
Thanks! I haven't had a whole lot of issues with leaks, but here in SoCal we don't get much rain. Once and a while I get some small leaks from the drivers side door, but haven't done anything to address it.
How/where do you fill up your co2 tank? Why dont you add the strip light inside instead of the flash light? Wouldn't that give you better lighting inside?
Thanks for sharing Brad - wife and I enjoy watching ur vidz. We all know Jeepers are usually 2A appreciative. Any reason why you avoid that subject when outfitting a jeep or when out on the trail? Thx
Great video, thanks for the walk through!!! Just started using Gaia as well and really like it too, can map out your rides and share too, as well as being reliable. Nice set up, I think my favorite mod of your build is the CO2....I haven’t pulled the trigger on that one yet. Thanks again for sharing!!
I have a question about your ham radios. You explain why you have the handheld radio in addition to the hard-wired radio, which makes total sense (outside-the-vehicle portability comes in handy in many situations). But I'm curious, why have the hard-wired one at all if the handheld (saving precious weight and space) will do what you need?
Great video as usual Brad. That little orange thing is really cool but you know, as a Ham you and your friends already have something very similar that runs on either 2m or 70cm. It is called APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) check it out. Cheers from your Swedish fan in NC
Question about the tail-gate table please. I've seen tables that fold out with an upper and lower table area. Have you seen those? What is your opinion of the pros and cons? Thank you.
How does the Wrangler compare to other off-road competitors? Toyota Tacoma TRD, Subaru’s, Honda Passport. I suppose nothing is more off-road capable but something else might be pretty good and better for all-around or towing use. Fire extinguisher? I did see the vid of this new Wrangler going up in flames. I wonder if a nitrogen cylinder is available instead of CO2?
In all my jeeps I keep a Res-Q Me it has a seatbelt cutter and it has a spring pin to shatter glass - very cheap and should be in every car! Great video man I just got my JKUR and I'm starting my overland build some I'm rewatching all your videos :)
Brad, I’m preparing to mount an iPad Mini 4 in the exact same configuration. I found the right Ram mount frame, but can you share the 67 parts, most specifically the length of the carbon fiber arm you used for the iPad mount? Thanks
great looking set up brad. Its fun to watch the progression of someone else's gear as it makes me think i'm not so crazy after all haha! I really like that 67 designs mount system and need to get that in our Jeep. I agree that the iPad mini is a perfect set up and i also use Gaia GPS and it works fantastic!
Solved my problem so far. Lost my keys in the snow and had to have the locksmith come out to get me a new key. Once I locked it from the inside and tried to use the key the alarm would go off. Use the key solely to lock/unlock I'm fine
Sorry we didn't film it, but when I go to re-organize everything back there I'll try and film it and show how we made the power outlet. Everything was purchased on amazon.. cheap stuff.
Hello Brad, and thank you for all of your content. You really do a great job, and as someone who is still learning a lot about his Jeep, your videos are super informative and helpful. I have a question about the air compressor and CO2 that you talked about. You mentioned going from the compressor to CO2 when you went to bigger tires. Was the ARB compressor not able to air up the larger tires to a good pressure, or did it just take FOREVER to get to a good pressure? I'm trying to decide what I want on my own Jeep. Thanks again for what you do, and thanks for your time.
Both the compressor and CO2 have their pros and cons. The compressor will do the job, just takes a bit longer. th-cam.com/video/S1Qc5PK_vd0/w-d-xo.html

Id imagine when you flip, that seatbelt cutter might fall to the roof of your jeep. You should just velcro it to the seatbelt release latch
velcro it to the roof, just like the patches, would work too.

Well done video. So glad you covered the seatbelt segment and first aid. So many offroad channels never cover these subjects.
Thank you! They are simple, small safety items everyone should carry!
I got my ham radio license last May KC1JQX running in my Jeep a YASAU 857D
Congrats!!!!!
I'm getting my first Jeep Wrangler in a few months. So excited to join the Wrangler family :)
I just can’t get comfy sitting in them and for some reason they hurt my lower back
4:18 Are we just going to pretend that he doesn't have a button that says "Rocket Launcher"???
@@Wallabyinertia it wouldn't be a surprise. if he told us.
I want a rocket launcher button
I did not notice that the first time I watched this...hilarious
I haven't even gotten my TT&L paid on my new jeep and now I want a rocket launcher button :(
😂🤣😂🚀
:-)
Would you consider making a video going through the various options presented on the Jeep website where one can "Build & Price" a Wrangler Sahara model and making recommendations for new buyers.
I got a ball joint press. It's really, really nice.
I removed it about ten years ago and now I need it again. lol
So you have just confirmed that I'll probably always be changing things up! LOL.
Very informative, thank you. Do you have a video describing what is in your tool kit? That would be very helpful. Thanks again.
Very practical guy! Everything has a purpose
Great set up, I didn’t see an option for iPad holder from Vector.
i put studs on my clutch pedal to keep my foot from slipping when covered in mud or snow. costs almost nothing, works great.
So great to hear, glad you are finding the information valuable. Thank you!
Welcome to the channel and congrats on the new upgrades!
Great Video, one observation seat belt cutter in the center console, if upside down when you open it gravity will send it anywhere, perhaps velcro to roll bar in arm's length might be a better option. Secondly, consider a glass breaker option. Have fun, keep the shiny side up. God Bless
Good point about where to store the cutter... thank you!
Tbh your jeep's interior is superb, enjoy man 👌👍
So what is the best way to power all of your accessories? Would you install a separate battery or just mount the biggest battery you can fit and wire everything to it?
Just got my first wrangler ❤️Love this ty!
How about making the frig platform w/slide removable = not permanent ?
A consideration, but then I have to figure out where to store it... I need a bigger garage!
Mike
2 is always better than 1! Thanks!
Also a food supply stash in the front or rear compartment
Technically, you need a HAM license to use that Baofeng... It too can link to relay stations. We use them here in Fl. when out ridin' I had to get a license...which like you stated...is really easy to get... Those Baofengs are great little radios... Love the lay out you got up front and great recommendations on items to have with you. You gave me some ideas to do for my YJ... Great Vid!!!
I bought the same seatbelt cutter after watching the rollover video and keep mine in the same place as yours. I also have one attached to my first aid kit. Another cool video! Thanks.
Heheeh rewatching this video 3 years after... You've "got it almost dialed in" 🤣. We can never stop tinkering with our jeeps.
My guess is you don't take the top off? Or just the freedom panels, possibly. I would love to do more trails, but I don't live in an area that has a lot of that close by.
By far one of the BEST videos out there to show how customizable Jeeps are. Out of curiosity, what year is your Jeep? Keep it up 🙌🏻
Great video, Brad!
Thx
Carrich has a cool dash mount for the ipad mini. A litle more integrated.
I'm new to the Trail Recon family (recent subscriber) and wanted to say I'm really enjoying your videos!
Install a sos device lighting which can erite your messages and can be seen from the rear or under the vehicle
Question about the tail-gate table please. I've seen tables that fold out with an upper and lower table area. Have you seen those? What is your opinion of the pros and cons?
Thank you.
as for portable radios,
how about a murs VHF 5 channel radio, or a gmrs
only radio, it might help
if needed. I really enjoy your videos.
Can you go into more detail on your i pad and how you have that set up?
Nice walk around. After watching Coyote Works's Jeep burn..I think there can never be enough fire extinguishers!
Solved my problem so far. Lost my keys in the snow and had to have the locksmith come out to get me a new key. Once I locked it from the inside and tried to use the key the alarm would go off. Use the key solely to lock/unlock I'm fine
Love your videos. A quick question, What is the red antenna behind the spare tire? Thanks.
Hi Brad, do you have a video for adding the 12v outlet in the back? Where did you get the kit?
Sorry we didn't film it, but when I go to re-organize everything back there I'll try and film it and show how we made the power outlet. Everything was purchased on amazon.. cheap stuff.
TrailRecon is it hard wired into your s-pod
Yes
I use my patches for bucket list trails so when you look and see that trail name you have a nice flash back to good times. Great video awesome rig.
37 annual HUMP-N-BUMP 2018 first weekend in November. Logandale, NV the mini Moab, just a hour north east of Las Vegas.
I'll have to check the dates, have a few things going on in November. Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement to get a ham license.. been on my to-do list for awhile
