Great video. I thought I had followed your directions completely and it would not run. I found that I had set PD004 before PD005 and it does not run that way. I reset it and set PD005 first and now it works as it should.
@Donni Dachitrosi - Fair. I was having a lot of problems with EMF triggering the limit switches. I upgraded the switches and it seems to have solved the problems. The ability to adjust the spindle speed with a couple button clicks is really handy. And better yet, increasing/decreasing speed for different cuts is pretty slick.
Thanks for the video, great job. A couple items of note is that when I set up my VFD exactly as you stated I got the Spindle to run but it spooled up very slowly and then the VFD gave me an error [E.o.L.A] and the spindle shut down. After mucking about and swearing at it, I then set PD014 to 3.0 and PD015 to 5.0 and I also noticed that PD003 was set to 0, when I do that it will not run correctly and I get errors so I set it 400 and it's perfect now.
Anyone having issues with the spindle stopping with the newest blackbox I’m running at like 2rpms when I turn tool off. My min max rpm is set to 24k and 0. I can also hit the stop and it stops but I can’t start it without resetting the vfd.
@@travellingpilot same problem for me... after the spindle starts spinning, the lowest I can make it go is about 5000rpm. wont go to 0 and i have to unplug the vfd power to reset it. did you get past this?
I did exactly as you said. I have the same vfd but with air cooled spindle. Works except when sending the turn off signal or just slows to 10k rpm even tho it’s set to 0 rpm in grbl
I have that exact same spindle and model number. I understand everything about how to set it up, but where did you ground the 110V power coming from the wall? I see the white and black and there's a green wire hanging but, I don't know where you grounded it. Thanks in advance!
Great video i am just about done I see you turn your spindle cooling water is tuned on in the program but how do you wire the pump and black box up to do so. Thanks, Kevin.
Can Anyone maybe help out with which settings need to be looked at for the spindle not wanting to stop? I have followed the guide and am running a 2.2kw (220V) water cooled spindle and HY02D223B VFD with the blackbox x32. I would very much appreiciate the help.
Wow this is awesome itoo was struggling with the black box setting controlling the setup through the black box! Thank you for this because I was frustrated that the BB wouldn't control the feed and speed!! Thank you!!!!Did youmodify any thing inside the BB move any pins around inside?
This is SUPER helpful, thank you. I am still selecting my vfd and spindle package so I will revisit later, but can you add a short description for what each of the 'PD' settings is? The 110 is 110 vac vs 220 is 220vac. The others seem to be random numbers, 400, 400, etc. I'm sure they mean something. Thanks again.
Nicholas Giardino when you get your vfd/ spindle the manual that comes with it tells you exactly what each parameter does. The 400’s are hertz that are the maximum that the spindle can run at.
Before my coffee I thought the $ on the left was charging you for each feature line you implement in the software. LOL. Then I realized its just GRBL commands LOL
@@michaelgriffin2914 if I remember correctly, at 18k RPM maybe 3-4 amps. Lower the RPM, the higher the amp draw. 3-4k rpm was in the 10amp range of believe. I honestly haven't looked lately so don't fully remember.
Fantastic Video Thank you. I was struggling for a couple of days until you pointed out the jumper on the inverter box that needed to be switched in conjunction with PD002. Out of curiosity, are you using a relay to turn on the water pump?
Can you tell me how you added the commands to turn on your air pump and spindle? I want to add a pause and turn on my dust collection system, but I only know how to do it maually. It would be nice if it was automatically added in Aspire and output the grbl code somehow. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks for the video as well.
how big is your CNC...im designing mine now and im trying to figure out how i want to set up gantry and such. im going for 1500mm wide since i want to be able to throw half sheet up. What does the 400 mean on 5,4 and 72? I have a spindle we are running at 18000 rpm and the normal value on the vfd is 300.00 at 18000 rpm - should I be setting 300 where you have 400?
I have the same VFD and spindle. I cannot for the life of me get it to run full speed via the blackbox. M3/M5 work to start/stop. If I type in M3 S24000 it is topping out around 17,900. Adjusting the voltage on the blackbox 0-10v does adjust the speed output but again, I cannot get it to 18,000. I have gone though all the various VFD settings I can think of to no avail.
@@BirdsEyeTech Yes it did. I found a few more Settings to change - now the 0 -10v doesn't change the speed but it runs slightly faster than intended (within 200 RPM at 22K
@@BirdsEyeTech Yes it did. I'm happy with the results now - it's not perfect but if I set the tool setting at 105% it's within 100 rpm at 24000 - all i did was change the wire from braided to solid.
@@EricHaskins71 was worried that would be the case. Thanks i think I’ll bite the bullet and buy one and make a plate to suite. How have you been getting on with the spindle? I use vectric do you know if the 0-10v from black box to the vfd is a given the voltage dependant on what spindle speed is set?
Thank you so much for this walkthrough. Worked on first try on my 2,2kw version of yours.
The VR to VI jumper, cant begin to think how long it would of taking me to know that without this videa, thanks.

PD001 = 1
PD002 = 1
PDOO3 = 400
PD004= 400
PD005 = 400
PD008 = 110 (IF YOU HAVE 220 SPINDLE SET)

PD070 = 0

Why the ground coming from the mains is directly connected to spindle ground wire? Shouldnt be connected to vfd earth pin?

Do you have a video or tutorial of the changes you made to your post processor?
I have a question do you power your vfd separately.? Do you have the black box and the vfd powered by your power supply?
Do you use a touch probe? After I installed my VFD and spindle my probe seems to be in the closed position when I clip it to the bit.
I don't use one on this machine. It's quicker for me to just do it all manually.
Thanks fora this. Looking to get a 1.5. But what amps are you pulling while running? My shop is limited to a 20amp breaker
