That’s some great looking rough material you have there Tom, I just bought 10 plants today and they’re just rooted 3 inch stem cuttings with about 6 small branches from each, by the time I can start making little trees from them I should have enough education from your videos 👍

That’s great Victor! They grow quickly - even with directional pruning and continually cutting to 1-2 sets of leaves and doing that again and again results in lots of foliage and thickening.
Best of luck and I’m so glad that you are enjoying the channel - I am as well! 🤣❤️🌲

I will definitely do that, I’m hoping by summer next year I will have some pretty bushy plants to work with, until then I will keep looking for bigger ones, I’ve had better luck with buying crassula Tetragona I’ve got some really nice ones.

Love your videos Tom! Been watching every single one of them.
I have been getting into this hobby myself, but it is hard to come by larger cuttings where I love so I am starting out with some babies. Do you have any tips on what to look out for in early stages? Maybe this could be an interesting video topic?
Anyway, thanks for the wonderful content!

It's a great hobby - very rewarding and I find it so relaxing. I just lose track of time when working on my trees and always feel like I just came home from a relaxing day at the beach.
Starting with smaller plants is a great way to do it. You can influence them to get the growth that you want from the start. Older material is also fun to work with since you get to work with what the plant has decided to do on its own. Jades, both Crassula and Portulacaria Afra grow so quickly that they reward beginners with good growth and make development faster which is one of the reasons that I enjoy working with them. Developing cuttings also teaches you how to care for and grow the plant so that by the time it's a full size plant you know exactly what it likes.
      Best of luck!

The bigger the cutting, the tougher it is to get portucaria afra to root... I have the opposite problem with crassula jades. I have a very difficult time with tiny cuttings, but bigger ones root easily for me...🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I would have to agree. I’ve rooted some very large crassula cuttings fairly quickly, but as you say the larger ports can take a long time which runs the risk of root rot.

Ready made mature trees with nice thick trunks and aged bark...Nice acquisition...Could you explain how you brought this batch of cuttings back to health in one of the future episodes? I didn't initially see a "Dancer" but by the end of your pruning it became more suggestive...Your vision is uncanny...Well done...Enjoyed and looking forward to the continued series of videos...Thanks...Sequim, WA...

Hi Nathan! I would be more than happy to discuss that in a video - great idea. 💡
I really did get extremely lucky to be able to get these trees, I think they will be very impressive someday. At least most of them anyhow, stay tuned for a few more that were significantly more challenging to style.
      Thanks for watching!

Just wondering if you have any Crassula Sarcocaulis also known as the ‘Bonsai Crassula’ Nigel Saunders has 1 and I’ve seen his videos but there’s not much content out there which is surprising given its name. I’m thinking about getting one just wish I could find some more good info first

Haha - what timing. I got one recently and had been trying to find one for some time. Apparently, they grow and root easily and reliably flower either white or pink. I bought a big one recently and will have a video on it soon. Not sure if mine is pink or white, but it had a decent trunk on it.
I would definitely get one for the bark and flowers alone, but they seem to be hard to find. I had been in the lookout for one over a year. By the way, the one I have also has nice roots so I am wondering if that is also a feature of this plant.
Thanks for the great question and good luck in finding one that you like!!👍

I’m chuffed that you have one it’s another video I can look forward to seeing.
I recently bought some Crassula Tetragona from an online nursery in Wales and they have some Crassula Sarcocaulis with pink flowers, I immediately liked the leaves they look similar to the tetragona which I really like a lot.
Mine will be quite young plants so I might get several and grow them on for a few years, I haven’t found any mature plants but I like the hunt so I will keep trying 👍
