  • San Gimignano is known for its medieval towers, cobblestone streets, and views of the Tuscan countryside.
It's a perfect day trip from Florence. For a complete guide, check:

You can rent a car and drive through the vineyards and rolling hills from Florence in a little over an hour.
Alternatively, you can take the train and bus. Trenitalia (the train line) won't bring you the entire way to San Gimignano.
From Florence, you’ll need a ticket to Poggibonsi. It’ll be about $10 for the 90-minute ride.
From the station, you can hire a taxi driver if you find one outside, or take the bus up the hill 25 minutes to San Gimignano.

Walking through the medieval walls into town will take you back a thousand years to when San Gimignano started to take shape as a stop on the trade route between Florence and Rome.
Today, San Gimignano draws tourists to its streets, lined with shops and restaurants.
You’ll find all kinds of Italian foods Tuscany is known for: meats, cheese, wines, and more
Around a dozen of the original towers in town are still standing, and you can climb a few of them for a view of the countryside.
San Gimignano gets crowded during peak tourist season in Italy, but for good reason! It's a beautiful spot with great shopping and delicious food ... a short ride from Florence.

Where can you buy the bus ticket? Can you buy it on board the bus?

Once you’re in Poggibonsi, you can look for a taxi right outside the train station. The base rate is 35 Euros for the driver to take your group up to San Gimignano. Or, you can buy a bus ticket inside the train station to get to San Gimignano. As for the return trip, in the town, stop in the Tabac store on the main street to buy your bus ticket back down to the train station.
