    I thoroughly enjoyed watching this restoration video. You do top quality work, Bob.
    I remember well the Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV show and all the toys that were marketed for it. Corgi always did such a wonderful job producing cars from such shows and you've done this one honour.

    Wow Bob, that is perfect! You do top quality work!
    Matched the pain perfectly, and it looks to be a mint original version, really, really great job!
    I was also looking for an UNCLE car for ages, and this was at least twenty years ago when Corgi was really dear. It took a LOT of patience but I got one cheap because it was scratched and nicked, for $17 Canadian, which was a third of what it should have went for even in that condition.
    The E-Pay seller used a flash on the pics instead of a separate light, and so all those "scratches and nicks" were dust that the flash picked up and made look like damage, and so I got a mint example!!
    Great job Bob!

    Im just waiting for two Matchbox K6 Benz Binz Ambulances to restore,just thought you might consider doing this type.
    If you are going to source a Benz Ambulance be sure to search for the K6 as its the earliest version featuring opening doors and active steering.
    Subsequent issues of the model deleted the opening front doors and active steering rack.
    Dannys diecast disasters did a resto one of these its nice.

    Excellent video Bob, well done. The finished car is quite superb, and better than new. You are a braver man than me adding boiling water to caustic soda. To be pedantic caustic soda is an alkali not an acid, and is the neutraliser of an acid. It is very very caustic (corrosive) and can cause quite severe chemical burns to the skin, although it much more effective than modern paint strippers which are frankly feeble. I will need to try the caustic soda!
    Anyway I really enjoyed your video and I learned a lot from it. Keep up the good work.

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thomas, yes it’s good stuff but like I said in the video be very careful with it and don’t inhale any of the fumes that it gives off as they are dangerous too!

    • @ianh4263
      @ianh4263 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And never add the water to the caustic soda ALWAYS the other way around otherwise is can spit and spray everywhere, very volatile that way round , much better than paint stripper tho 👍

  • @tonytiger943
    @tonytiger943 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing that Bob, I enjoyed it. I’m in my 50’s, mainly bed-bound due to long term illness. Restoring old die cast and tin toys and trains is keeping me going. I like your video because it’s nice and steady; like you, I like to work carefully and methodically. There no room for mess when I’m working on a tray in bed.
    I wanted to ask; do you use an etch primer to make sure that the final colour sticks on well? Also, what type of paint or paint pen did you use for the bumpers and grill? It looks great, not too shiny, not too dull, just like the original. Keep up the good work, it’s very much appreciated. All the best TonyT 🚙 💨 😊

    • @BobWilliscorgi
      @BobWilliscorgi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Tiger Hi mate thanks for your kind words, glad you enjoy the videos.
      I don’t always use any primer, sometimes I’ll just spray the paint straight onto the bare metal! It depends on the condition of the actual body shell of the model. The reason being I’ve noticed when stripping the models that it’s very rare I’ve seen any undercoat coming off, its usually just the top colour but if I do use any primer it’s just ordinary car grey or white primer.
      As for the bumpers I’ve started using the Molotow Chrome pens but they are quite expensive at £7.50 or thereabouts a pop.
      I hope I have been helpful to you, all the best Bob 👍

    • @tonytiger943
      @tonytiger943 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Willis Thanks Bob. That helps a lot. I didn’t realise until recently and what you have confirmed, that the dark discolouration on the models, on the metal, is a primer. I realise now why the new spray paint started to come off of a metallic blue Corgi driving school VW I did for my stepdaughter last Christmas.
      I sanded it, way too much. Made it shiny bare metal. Doh 😬! I’m going to use the soda paint removal method now. I’ll get one of those markers. Money well spent for a good result like that. I’m British, but stuck down under, in Australia. All the best to you and the home country from far away. 👍😊

      72Yonatan hi, yes I’m pleased with that drill, well worth the money, it’s a Stanley Fatmax 18v cordless and comes in a nice case with 2 batteries and charger. You can get one at Argos on eBay here’s the item no: 362599450004
