  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 13 เม.ย. 2009
  • This is the opening title sequence from the seventh episode of UNCLE's first season, THE GIUOCO PIANO AFFAIR (November 10, 1964), featuring Jerry Goldsmith's original theme. For the first few episodes, Napoleon Solo, Illya Kuryakin and Alexander Waverly introduced themselves to the viewing audience. Also included in the title sequence was a nameless voiceover explaining the basics of the U.N.C.L.E. organization and its front of Del Floria's Tailor Shop.

Luckily we were never caught but all dad would've hadda do was put his hand on the set...I too, was a huge fan of The Prisoner...

This was way back pre-internet. I sent away and received one complete with shoulder stock, extended magazine, barrel extension/silencer/flash suppressor. You can't tell it from a real one. 55 years later I still have it.

One winter afternoon I was standing on a street in downtown Toronto 1976 or 77, looking at a store window advertising, and happened to glance at the person standing next to me. It was Robert Vaughn for sure, with his hands in his coat pockets. He seemed pleasant enough. We both smiled a bit. I guess he was in town for some reason, and I ran into my childhood crush! from the man from uncle show. He was also good in a Colombo episode.

The blinking lights were there because at that time no one had as yet invented the boot ROM. My first personal computer was an Altair. It was a rectangular metal box with one side covered in little LEDs and tiny switches. This was about 1975. In order to start the machine up, you had to load a startup sequence in the boot area of memory. The Altair was a normal 8 bit machine so you entered the correct sequence of eight bits into the machine with the switches and watched the lights to see that you got it right. So you would entered the boot sequence byte by byte until you had it all in memory and then you turned it on. My next computer was a Commodore PET which like the Apple II and the TRS-80 were known as "appliance computers' because they had boot ROMs. You just turned them on and the boot sequence loaded automatically. The machine signaled that they they were ready by printing "ok" on the screen. So if you knew Microsoft BASIC (Bill Gates BASIC) you could write a program and get the machine to execute it. All the second generation personal computers had boot ROMs and no more lights on computers (except in movies).

I think what's worse is they think every series has to be like Game of Thrones or Lost. There's nothing wrong with each episode having a self contained story. You can then bring back characters and storylines. Now it's stories that make no sense, and destroying established characters and ruining them.

I met Robert too. Nice, but David was much kinder. Robert acted like he didn't want to sign my playbill-he was acting in a play in Atlanta-because I wasn't " liberal enough". I mentioned that David didn't act like he cared about that and never asked. Robert did apologise and signed it, admitting he was only teasing. Still, I miss him too and wish he'd been on "West Wing" or "Law and Order" as a regular character instead of just a law ad. I watched him on "Hustle".

I was so excited I told my Grandfather "Look ' it's The Man from Uncle!" My Grandfather didn't watch the show but to be polite he said "We really like your pictures". Like other fans on this post I had to come here after just learning about the death of Robert Vaughn today. The first time I watched The Man From U.N.C.L.E. back in September 1964. He became on of my favorite actors. As Napoleon Solo his impeccable style of dress, together with his suave womanizing, toughness and wit was on a level above the other tv spies of that era. Fact! Because of Mr. Robert Vaughn. Long before I was a teenager and now as an adult. I always wear my dress suits nicely tailored, with a french cuff dress shirt that is closed properly with cuff-links and sport a nice dress watch.
