all the ants included in the video add up to $100, so it’s not just one colony. i just wanted to show one colony in the thumbnail, but thank you for your concern :D
Between this and your last upload i had a wife, three kids, a divorce, my billionaire uncle died and i got a crazy inheritance, got a mansion, gor raided by the cia and died and respawned
I’m so happy you’re back to making videos! I watched your entire brachymyrmex series! It inspired me to get my own brachymyrmex queen, just got her today!
im glad i can inspire you, next video is this weekend! i want to grow my brachy colonies now cause theyve been super small for a long time lol. i hope your queen can found a large colony if you treat her well :D
thank you! i’m actually surprised with how it’s doing because it’s performing better than all my videos in the first 2 days of being uploaded. next video will be even better! :D
thank you! they were the first ants i wanted when i got into ant keeping because it was around winter time when i found out about the hobby. didn’t think id ever get them, but here we are years later!
What’s crazy I found a false honey pot queen in my room about 2 months ago. she has 5 workers now, I will be looking forward to the update as both our colony grow together. PS: this is my very first colony so could I get some pointers
Wow nice find in your room! They have to be put into hibernation around November at 65F, and we can take them out in March. This will be my second time hibernating ants, the first being many years ago, so I hope they will be okay in my mini fridge during that time. Try to limit yourself from checking up on them so much since this is your first colony. It can be tempting, I know. Make sure to give them honey/sugar at least twice a week, and protein in the form of insect legs, or small bugs once a week. Freeze the bugs / dip them in boiling water to free them of any pests that may have hitched a ride on them
Nice to see a longer video from you again :) I'd be worried that those setup containers might not be tall enough for the barrier to be effective. It's possibly not an issue until they get brave enough and start moving the brood and queen out into the substrate, but I can easily see them piling some substrate against the wall, and getting past the barrier. Probably better to monitor them and see how they're doing frequently, so that you can see how the barrier is holding up. Also, something I've done before: put the setup containers in a bigger container with a barrier, that gives them another point of containment.
Please do an update on your acrobats I recently caught a queen myself for my first ants and I would love for you to have a series going on for the same genus as me I am putting them in an ant farm soon as they’re getting to big for the tube but I plan to make a bio active vivarium for them eventually
Omg Prenos! I saw them alot last year they are so cute. Was my goal to catch a queen this year as I saw them lots last year. No luck tho. I did get a nice formica queen tho. ❤
Awesome, I was able to finally catch a Formica queen this year. I have to say they're one of my favorite 'normal' looking ants just based on their movements and activity.
@@EnderAnts it’s a special type of honey/jelly produced by nurse bees through glands in their heads. It’s very nutrient dense and is typically used exclusively for feeding the queen, it’s what helps the queen become larger, have a longer lifespan, and is the primary reason why it develops reproductive organs. In the human world though, royal honey is used as a male enhancement product, boosting libido, sexual stamina, and keeps you erect longer… it’s essentially a natural rhino pill. As for its effects for ants, I have no clue maybe it could be used to feed the queen exclusively as the bees do it, but don’t take my word for it
1. Every experienced ant keeper I know says that when doing "tubs & tubes" set up in small containers where the substrate is just shallow ground cover (like what you have) that you're *_not_* supposed to moisten the substrate because they get the water they need from the water test tubes and if you don't keep the substrate dry they will often try to "nest" in the substrate even if it's not sufficiently deep‼️🤔 2. Don't take this the wrong way, just some constructive criticism. But it might be better to hold off on trying to push paid memberships on your subs until you've actually built a track record showing *consistency* and that the channel is actually being prioritized before asking people _to pay_ for extra content👍
Thank you for your honest feedback! Yeah, with these setups I'm not going to moisten the substrate as much or at all because too much humidity can mess up the barrier and their water comes from the test tubes. If I do moisten it, it's for the lichen, moss, and so it's not bone-dry in the setup. As for the memberships, it is mainly to help with the giveaway shipping costs I will be doing next video coming out in a few weeks, production fees for future giveaways , and for those interested in all my previous and current behind the scenes work.
Hey, where do you get these see through plastic boxes you use as formicaria from? PS: I just stumbled upon your channel, really like it, earned a sub(: I also keep ants for myself
@EnderAnts no, both times. 1st as an order. 2nd was their replacement. I got winged queens that couldn't have layed eggs to produce the nanitics that they were shipped with. They knew what they did and did it twice.

The thumbnail looks sick! I can’t wait to see!

love you bro, more vids on the way. just finished editing a lot of shorts, and preparing for another big announcement next long-form vid!

no i’ve never heard of royal honey before. perhaps i should treat the queens like the royalty they are

I tried to buy from Buckeye. Twice they sent me winged queens with boosted nantitics. I don't recommend them at all.
oh really? i haven’t heard anything bad from them so this is the first. have you contacted them about it?
@EnderAnts yea they tried it again and then asked me to take down my comment review.
ahh so you did in the end get a normal colony?
