Haha, great idea. People can cosplay as Furtwangler and Celibidache and Dave will wear his scarf of irredeemable chutzpah and insult them. The possibilities are endless.
Well, the Greatest Neglected TH-camr you sure are, your channel deserves a lot more attention. I've been with you from the start and yes, you present us a lot of videos, almost every day. But don't slow down, we can always pick and come back later to see the rest. Thanks so much for your work and enthusiasm. Highly appreciated!
Your fecundity is astonishing. But almost as astonishing to me is that I think I’ve listened to every single one, all the way through! My wife says it’s like having a third person in this marriage.
No need for you to slow down. Your presentations here have filled a void for us classical oriented folk. Would love to see more of the “Criticism Masterclass” presentations you’ve been making.
Each morning I get up, make coffee, open blinds, move to my favorite chair, watch humming birds having their breakfast and watch your latest videos as I enjoy my first coffee . Then I hunt down the albums on you tube and stream what you have discussed. How wonderful to start the day hearing about new music, new recordings, and learning musical history. Congratulations on the 4000th. Dave, may you make many thousands more videos -- they bring joy to us.
Congratulations, Dave. I've always found your videos as entertaining as they are informative - your sense of humour has me in stitches sometimes. I also think of your channel as a reference library, so it's good that you're reminding us of this.
Just ordered a cd that is really hard to find: Vaclav Veit's Symphony in E Minor, Concert Overture and Romance for Violin. For fans of chamber music, Veit wrote several string quartets. Which are available on Toccata Classics. Also ordered Marschner's Overtures and Stage Music Vol. 1 on Naxos. While not all of the selections are my favorite, I really enjoyed his Schon Ella and Der Kyffhauser Berg. And congrats on your 4,000th video! Can't wait to see what surprises are on Dave's neglected composers list.
Seriously, congratulations, Dave, on the 4K Milestone as well as for the upcoming 45K subscribers milestone... There is so much more to cover. We have just barely scratched the surface, right? There are still probably 5 or 6 hundred videos deep in the back catalog that I haven't yet seen, so I'll keep on listening/watching! I started watching you in the summer of 2021 and have been through like two devices to follow you on since!!! Please keep up the great work here... some of us count on it!
Congratulations, Dave! You seem indefatigable, and you're enjoying yourself, AND I've become reliant on getting my day started with a new video, so please ignore those calls to slow down--unless it comes from your doctor. I know you've done your best to organize your videos within the constraints of TH-cam's platform structure, but the numbers are now so great that any search involves a whole lot of lengthy browsing. It's approaching needle-to-haystack ratios. Perhaps you might employ a student of Library Sciences to take this on as a project toward a Ph.D. Someone young, but desperate. Give it a thought. And again: thanks for the joy!
I appreciate all you have contributed to not solely the classical music lover but lovers of fine music ....period. Over the years, I have added several hundred items to my collection based solely on your spirited reviews. Thank you... from your friend in music!
Congratulations! Unbelievable to have hit 4000 in this short time! Testament to your knowledge, passion and love for your listeners and readers. Keep up the great work!
I don't have much to add to what many others have already said, but I'll add my own congratulations, and offer my sincere gratitude for the hard work, enthusiasm, passion, fun, knowledge, and experience that you share with us everyday (and for free!). Truly a labor of love!
If you can get around to it, and if you can get a copy, there is a fabulous disc that fell outside of the Solti and Haitink boxes (as it was recorded live by the BBC) and it's John McCabe's Concerto for orchestra (Solti) and the Chagall Windows Suite (Haitink) all coupled with Arnold's Philharmonic Concerto, all recorded 70's 80's.. Proof that Haitink and Solti were often at their best in new music. McCabe was a fine composer and pianist, and I see Amazon have his box of Haydn piano sonatas available !
I'd forgotten about the Schwann catalog. I used to lust after that stuff when I was young. No, I don't think Classical Music will die; it is just too much cultural richness.. and there will always be new people discovering it. It is sort of addictive, too. Congratulations on your success; I hope you continue your presentations for a long time yet. I especially love when obscure pieces are reviewed and encouraged; there were an awful lot of composers who were not appreciated in their time, who deserve a modern look.
Thank you for guiding us, sometimes into backwaters that are surprisingly refreshing, sometimes into the best eddies of the great stream (and here for reminding us how great that stream is).
For me, the most important videos in this category were those in which you introduced me to the work of George Lloyd, whom I now consider to be one of the most important composers of the 20th century. So, thank you for discovering such an important musician for me from now on. I've bought the complete works currently available from Lyrita.
Congratulations on your great achievement. We have all learned a lot, from you, and sometimes from one another. I look forward to your talks every day.
Keep em coming, Uncle Dave! My collection has grown, in quantity and quality, because of your recommendations. Speaking of which, I just ordered the new Dohnanyi/Cleveland box set from DG. Can't wait to hear it!
Great job Dave! Sorry this isn't on subject, but apparently 40 disks of Dohnanyi conducting on Decca (including Cleveland) is about to drop soon on Amazon. FINALLY!
Congratulations, Dave! It's simply amazing. I've watched almost every one, many of them multiple times. Something I think would be useful is a playlist of your videos simply in chronological order, maybe broken down into chuncks of half or quarter years (or maybe by months). I have tried to start at the beginning and go forward in order, but it's impossible not to get lost soon. I think there's value in watching your videos in the order they were first presented in. Some newcomers to the channel might like this too. I really enjoy and benefit from your talks, and I don't know how i was lucky enough to find your channel within a week or two of launch: I never listened to Mahler, Bruchner, Strauss, or Sibelius in those days, yet the Algorithm found me. Thank heaven!
Kudos to you, Dave, on 4000 plus! Listening to three Hurwitz videos a day has become part of my daily routine though the videos themselves are anything but routine even when one disagrees. You often astonish me as when you sang (?) not only the music but every word in Spanish of a number from El Amor Brujo. Oh, and please continue to cost me money--most recently the Chandos cd of Turina Canto a Sevilla.
That's a lot of composers! As for those Hänssler Koechlin discs, did you know they were boxed up into two boxes-and with full notes from the original releases? The booklets for the boxex-one for orchestral works; the other for chamber works-each run at about a hundred pages! Both boxes were released in 2017 and quickly went out of print. I then tracked down a Koechlin relative in France and bought the two boxes from him. They're expensive. And Englund? His Piano Concertos are great as is his Concerto for Twelve Cellos.
Thanks to you Dave I've learned so much about these neglected and underappreciated composers. I feel truly indebted. I've been listening to so much Malcolm Arnold lately and it's just fantastic stuff. It's very cool to watch him conduct that Concerto for group and orchestra with Deep Purple - Jon Lord spoke very highly of Sir Arnold. I'm also now a fan of Bax and I'm just starting to get into George Lloyd as well. There's really so much great music out there that many of us have never heard of - it's astonishing. Truly a lifetime of enjoyment. Thank you for these great music talks and reviews. Congratulations on 4000 fantastic videos.
Congratulations on this milestone Dave. I cannot adequately express how much I enjoy these videos or your thoughtfulness, authenticity, and passion. It's triggered many discoveries, and I look forward to many more. Wishing you health and happiness every day. Patrick
Congratulations and massive thanks for this phenomenal channel. I have learned from it so much over the years and I find it endlessly informative and entertaining. There should be a prize for this kind of achievement (you Nobel and Pullizer people, are you listening?).
Dave, I've been a subscriber for a few years now and I just want to say thank you for imparting your experience and expertise with us. I've been a classical music nut since I was very young, but I had no real guidance as I explored the vast classical music canon. It started with music related to my instrument of choice and spread from there, though unevenly, I will admit. I'm much older now and am even wrapping up a doctorate in music, but as I watch your videos, I'm amazed at all of the new discoveries that had never before made so much as a blip on my radar. Even just this past week I finally took the dive into the Shostakovich symphonies after listening to your talks about them (I got your top pick with Petrenko and Liverpool). I can't wait to see what awaits us in the next thousand videos; hopefully, there will even be a video about Paganini's offering to the evil god Cankrasans.
Let me be the 1,000th or so to congratulate you on this latest milestone in giving us stimulating, enjoyable videos. Now, as for Great Neglected Composers and Works: One word ... well, two actually ... Edmund Rubbra.
Congratulations! I really enjoy your videos. One question: Have you heard "Dalia's Mixtape" by Dalia Stasevska? It's digital only, and it had a strange rollover, with one track released per month, but it's complete now, and it is almost a "contemporary 101" compilation for newcomers and connoisseurs alike
Might as well face it, Dave. After 4 years & 4000 videos you're no longer a fellow music lover, you, your friends, cats, and even mom are part of our family. Thank you 😊
Congratulations, Dave!!! When you reach 5,000 we're all going to have to celebrate. Rent Carnegie Hall...
Haha, great idea. People can cosplay as Furtwangler and Celibidache and Dave will wear his scarf of irredeemable chutzpah and insult them. The possibilities are endless.
Roger Norrington as a special guest.
How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
Dave, your presentations and recommendations have immeasurably enriched my musical life.
Happy 4000th - you look hardly a day older.
Congratulations Dave you are truly the Telemann of TH-cam classical music
Congratulations, Dave ! Greatest neglected composer (to my point of view) : Alessandro Scarlatti. No video on him so far ! When, please ?
We'll get there...
Congratulations on reaching 4000 videos! Thank you for the amazing content you provide for all of us!
At this point i need Dave Hurwitz videos to navigate Dave Hurwitz videos.
Your fecundity is astonishing. But almost as astonishing to me is that I think I’ve listened to every single one, all the way through! My wife says it’s like having a third person in this marriage.
Tell her I love her.
Not sure that’s what she’s looking for, but I’ll give it a shot!
YAYYYYYY, Congrats Dave. 🎉
-from a young person who loves your videos
Congratulations for all 4000 !!!
No need for you to slow down. Your presentations here have filled a void for us classical oriented folk. Would love to see more of the “Criticism Masterclass” presentations you’ve been making.
Congrats Dave! Yet another milestone reached on this wonderful adventure. Here’s to another 4000 videos!!
I always enjoy perusing what you've newly posted. I didn't realize you had done that many, already. :)
Quite an achievement! Thanks for all the education and fun!
Thank you for these great videos!
I’ve got to put in a plug: Josef Bohoslav Foerster’s fourth symphony.
Well done, and thanks for hours upon hours of fun and learning!
Congratulations, Dave. I've always found your videos as entertaining as they are informative - your sense of humour has me in stitches sometimes. I also think of your channel as a reference library, so it's good that you're reminding us of this.

Hip hip!
Well done Dave. Congratulations! Here's to the next 4000 🏆
Congrats, Dave! Thanks for all of your insights and recommendations. Looking forward to the next 4,000 videos!
🎯 Thanks for helping to destroy my bank balance Dave 👌🏻

Yeah, I know. It's a problem...
Congrats on the milestone! Wonderful topic, too.
Ad maiora!!
4000 moments of pure joy and cats
I appreciate all you have contributed to not solely the classical music lover but lovers of fine music ....period.
Over the years, I have added several hundred items to my collection based solely on your spirited reviews.
Thank you... from your friend in music!
Many thanks, Mr. Hurwitz! Your channel has been a valuable and seemingly inexhaustible source for this budding classical listener.

Thank you so much for your epic contribution to the expansion of my musical knowledge and experience. Keep on keeping on 🎶

Congratulations on your great achievement. We have all learned a lot, from you, and sometimes from one another. I look forward to your talks every day.
Speaking of which, we need a video on the Medtner concerti! Or violin sonatas
Wow! 4 thousand. You have surpassed Mahler's 8th Symphony The Symphony of a Thousand
Keep kicking thaa ball, Dave!
Opus 4000!
Keep em coming, Uncle Dave! My collection has grown, in quantity and quality, because of your recommendations. Speaking of which, I just ordered the new Dohnanyi/Cleveland box set from DG. Can't wait to hear it!

4K! Hooray! I think I have watched at least 90 percent of them. Congratulations and keep on keepin' on.
Congratulations Dave, from a classical music lover for 50+ years and former record store clerk. Yay Sam Goody!
Congratulations. Please do NOT slow down.
Congrats, Dave!
4000 more, please
Let me be the 1,000th or so to congratulate you on this latest milestone in giving us stimulating, enjoyable videos.
