- F1 Challenge...as it's meant to look! No mods, just the pure game, running fantastically on Windows 10. Switch over to 1440p to get this video looking at almost in-game quality.
So glad ppl still play this pure awesome game (a SIM tbh) in 2020

"As it's meant to look!" apart from the steering wheel LCD being broken 😅 By the way, you can edit your save games PLR file to add some extra details; "self in rearview" will let you see your rear wing and wheel in the mirrors, there's' more settings that allow you to use any camera in the pitlane, remove cinematic camera in the pit lane, and another to never let the AI control your car (manual control of the cool down lap. You can also add the formation lap and recon laps, as well as edit things like debris clearing time, and whether the game will auto-flip overturned cars. You can also turn on extra effects like sparks!
All that is part of the base game, it's pretty cool! Shame it's all hidden away in the save folder.
Do you know how to solve the LCD thing?
I believe its bit related, in the 3dconfig, resolutions with x16 or x32, either one of those should fix it i think.@@robertohernanracinet4216

although then again sponsors these days are quite harsh
Yeah, I hate the forced "Flashback or Retire" choice after a crash. I would have loved the choice to retire manually in case I wanted to continue watching the race and switch to another driver's onboard. F1 Challenge 99-02 is still my favorite F1 game of all time and will forever be since Codies won't ever copy the EA Sports style.
@@RyoooPT EA just bought Codemasters. It's a sad day as EA will probably ruin the series.
I loved this sim back in the day.. together with Grand Prix 4 these were the best F1 sims ever imo
This game is like old Counter Strike 1.6
Responsive game, good game engine with OK graphics for that time
Also, engine sound is amazing!
I used to play this religiously with the RH mods, genuinely a good game (being developed by ISI), I recall watching F1 track guides at the time and you could relate to the drivers description of what the car was doing, and I even used to copy their lines and improve my laptime.
The last time I tried to play it years ago I recall the wheel support wasn't great (I played with a controller back in the day), it looks like you're using a wheel in this video though?
Logitech G25. Now I have a Fanatec CSL Elite and it works just as well.

Regarding the wheel, all wheel works with our fixes, ffb is functional, plus guide by Jules solves everything

it has way better force feedback than codemasters game, so wheel works great. I remember it needed a bit of setup but when you set it down, its great.
Question: how do u setup the car? I use the default setup, the car only got 6 gear and it barely pass 290kph. Only in monza and indy it got 7 gear and 310kph for indy and 330 for monza. Other circuit the car slow af. I play against 100% cpu strength and got smoked
I guess that LCD bug is not fanstastic :DD ,anyway we have F1C community on discord, running multiplayer races every weekend, but if you prefer single player then you can there fixed exe with 4gb support and 3d config for high resolutions :DD Cheers

How does this work properly on win 10?
What resolution is it running at though. Looks stretched. Might be my phone though. What a game damn!
Ah, so, this is one issue with this game. I'm running at its maximum native resolution of 1600x900, but the on-screen graphics aren't programmed to scale with the aspect ratio so they get stretched. I took some screenshots of the game and resized them to 4:3 and all the car models looked squashed. Perhaps there are some mods that fix this?

What wheel do you use? Does this game even have force feedback considering it's so old?

Hey man,do you have any kind of force feedback activated in the settings?I use the G29 and the experience is horrible,i can't get to corner 4 in Australia due to the shitty feel while playing the game.

Yes I do and it feels pretty good. Let me know if you need them and I will post my Controller.ini settings. The default settings are awful so it took a lot of tweaks to get it working.

I would really love to know how to get this game to run in Windows 10. It was always one of my favorites because there are so many great mods for it. But I can't even get the base game to run. What does it take to run this in Win10?
Just open the game as admin. If it doesn't work, then try to click "right mouse button" on F1 icon - properties - capability - run with 95 windows capability. Hopefully, it will work

I would really love to know how to obtain this game in 2022. I had this on CD ROM back in the day. We played Austria lots online, I even remember having a setting called "mue2". for the A1 Ring.

How did you get it to run on Windows 10? Doesn't work for me using compability mode
I didn't do anything special, I installed it and it just works. I think a no-CD patch might have helped.
Who remembers how to go into the game folders and set the LOD draw distance longer so the cars remain in highest resolution and also to fix the trees popping up.
Wheel settings?
I don't remember. I usually set all sims to 440 degrees. There are some crucial INI hacks required for this as well otherwise it feels terrible.
I hate that the Al-s are soo noob in the first few corner.. This mistake ruins the whole race :(
Yep, all going single file into La Source and I can pass all of them into T1...Very few racing games actually manage to get that right.
