As a Californian, I’ll say this for anyone who’s thinking of coming here
California is nice if you have money. Choose the right location and your set for life. It’s a wonderful place with high paying jobs and beautiful vacation spots. If you want to live here, location is everything. I would not suggest living close or in LA currently.
However, California also has high crime rates. Especially Southern California. I would honestly say to choose to live in the suburbs and no where near the city. But most high paying jobs are in the city so there’s that.
I live in northern Cali and think it’s much better than southern Cali. (Although northern Cali is slightly more expensive). The air here is nice and we have great weather.
Overall, location and money is everything that matters in Cali. We do have high paying jobs but you have to go to college for most of those and colleges here are pretty expensive. I would not suggest living in cali right now but feel free to if you want

My husband and I came to America as refugees when we were young. People who have lived here their entire lives sometimes forget how good they have it. And that's not to say it's easy to live here when you don't want to work for the life you want. But people forget to live within your means sometimes and that's what can get them into trouble. We have poverty all over the entire world, but at least in America you have more of a chance to pick yourself up and start over. We also have found people very welcoming. But that also depends on what lenses you see the world with and if you're willing to not have bias towards others.

And what about the people who can’t work for what they want?? Those of us with physical and mental disabilities that the government randomly decides they won’t cover but we get fired from every job because of those disabilities??? What about those of us who start off living somewhere that are miles away from the nearest businesses with absolutely nothing?? If you think everything in this country is founded on hard work and determination you are genuinely living a pipe dream or are really lucky and do not realize your privilege.

America can be a fun place to visit, and it can be a good place to live for some people. the US has a long way to go in truly becoming an equitable and just space for people to live and work.
also, California is not all of America. it's one of 50 states and often sits as a ludicrous outlier in a lot of lists, especially when it comes to cost of living.

@@Wilson_Cool Well, this really depends on what person you are. If you're having big dreams the US might be something for you. And I found the people to be very nice to me. But I was honestly disgusted how merciless their economic and political system is. E.g. I was fired from my volunteering position partially because I took more sick days for the flu than I negotiated in my contract. Before I wasn't aware that there were limited days you could take off for being sick. Worker's law depending on the state is almost non-existent: no mandatory vacation days, no sick days, no mandatory health insurance, no overtime limit, no nothing. If something happens to you in Germany you can be sure to have medical support and a minimum income regardless the circumstances; not in the US, there you're literally out on the street. It's a very market capitalist enviroment while we live in a social market economy. You might like that, because it could enables you to make a career and a good living. But I value that there's a social system put in place in Europe that helps me if I struggle.
Furthermore public transportation is non-existent and I don't like the consumeristic attitute of the American society.
