    A seriously under-rated song. Great vocals.

    One of the things I love from this song (along with the great harmonies and lyrics) is the fact that George is playing an E Maj7 while John is playing a regular E Major. I knew I could hear that Major 7th in there!
    Also, when they sing « don’t you know that it’s so » I thought I could hear a G#7 in there….am I imagining that one? 🤔
    Great job again, Mike.😊
    Love the Beatles ❤

    I've listened to the Beatles for decades, and while I appreciate their later work, the early guitar-driven songs like this are the ones I keep coming back to. Great lesson as usual!

    Now I know why this song had a special feel to it, it’s all the subtle parts that quite frankly most guitarists wouldn’t come up with but a kid of 20 did! you’ve laid the secret bare again Mike..brilliant work 😎🎸💙

      Yes, George’s guitar work was excellent! In fact, he was still 2 weeks shy of his 20th birthday….amazing!❤

    Mike said he was surprised by how many folks have never heard this song. That would be true in America as it came out on some minor record label. In Britain and the rest of the world it appeared on their first EMI/ Parlephone LP which was heard by millions.

    At Easter 1964 my sister and I begged for a Beatles record from our dubious parents. Dad (a high school music teacher) scoffed and said they’d be forgotten in six months. So we said we’d want something to remember them by! Ha!! This was my first record of any sort. I was nine st the time. The Tollie 45 with Twist & Shout b/w There’s a Place was our choice. My sister and I played the record to death on our portable record player. She and her friend played the A side over and over, jumping and screaming on her bed. But I preferred There’s a Place. Already something of a introspective dreamer, I guess. 7:28

    I sometimes forget whether this song or Ask Me Why is on the PPM album, both great songs in E major. I can hear John’s stuffy voice that he had the day they recorded the album so I know it was There’s a Place. One of my favorite John and Paul harmonies, especially the “and it’s my mind” part. Great breakdown of George’s playing. Can be hard to head over the harmonica! These videos are a great gift to all Beatles lovers!

    Hi Mike, I haven't heard this Beatles number at all, but it's a pretty serious rendition for early Beatles sound. Good tune.
    Well any further developments on your Django project. Did you get to visit Samois in France this Summer, Django's home town, it's also his burial place.
    Looking forward to your Django airing in due course 😀

    Nice breakdown!They shoved a lot of chords into that one . Holy cow! The song is deceptive in how simple it sounds, but the more it gets dissected the more complex it is . Add the punches and breaks and the vocal harmonizing.... impressive little ditty.

    I found it amazing that they can come together in the studio and get a "keeper take" in 10. Chances are George and Ringo had never even heard the song prior to that day. The times called for 3 minute songs but just imagine them working on a song for a week, with 6 minute songs. The instrumental would have been special.

    One of my all time favorite Beatle songs. For me, it was the earliest version of Strawberry Fields. Not so much melody, but the lyrics, especially... There is a place, where I can go, when feel I low, when I feel blue... and it's my mind... and there's no time, when I'm alone"'. For me, it is an allusion to when John used to hang out in the gardens of the Strawberry Field orphanage.

    Is the Distressor your secret weapon? What other processing are you using to get such a great sound?

    • @MPfrance
      @MPfrance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no such thing as my "secret weapon." I have a lot to choose from - relative to the sound I'm trying to achieve per song.
      I have a few vocal mics that I use on a regular basis. A Neumann U87 (I have 4 of them), AKG 414 and for a ribbon sound - a Sontronics Delta.
      Mostly for Beatles I use a Neumann U87 - I also like the Neumann U47 and TLM 103. The preamps and compressor makes A LOT of difference. I have a number of them, Telefunken V72, La Chapelle 992, Toft EC-1, DBX 286A, ART PRO MPA II, ART PRO MPA, Empiracle Labs Distressor, Universal Audio 1176, Daking 91579, etc. etc.
      Then there's my board - equipped with Perkins EQ's.
      And the vintage amps help out the authenticity quite a bit.

      @David-ik9yn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MPfrance Good tools take you half of the way there. Of course talent is most important. I’d love to get an Unfairchild compressor as well as some of the Abbey Road hardware reissues from Chandler. The Waves plugins are an alternative. Even better, Abbey Road will process your digital files through any of their equipment, including what the Beatles used, for a slight fee. It’s only money.
