  • For months, viewers have been telling us that 1910 and 1920 are best when blended to produce the famed 1915. So we put them in a bottle, gave them a month to blend, and now it's time to find out. Old Forester Whiskey Row 1910 and 1920 face off against 1915 and 1915 High Rye, which includes a dose of Old Forester Rye for good measure. We're skeptical, but we like to party. Let's go!

    Hey guys thanks for the shout out and trying out these blends. Isn’t it surprising how just a small amt of the OF rye adds to the mix? I tried 50ml and it was just too much. Overall tho it’s the 1920 that’s my jam.

      Thank you for the fantastic tip! It made such a huge difference. That 1920...just so good. Thanks again!

    Nice, I’ve done the 1915 and thought it was okay but I really enjoy them on their own! Might give the Rye mix a try!

      It makes all the difference, but we still prefer them on their own.

    Great job! Doing this blind to find the best one would have been interesting.

      Maybe we need to try them blind. That 1920 would be hard to miss though!

    I’ll have to try this. I love both the 10 and 20. 20 is my favorite though.

      I’m still crazy about 1920. Might go have some right now.

    Spot on review. 1920 is my favorite of the whiskey row line and it looks like I need to tip my toe into the blending and compare. Well done!

      Thanks Eric! 1920 and 1910 are both such special bottles. Old Forester did a great job with them.

    I do a different version of OF 1915.
    In order to prepare my palate for the high proof 1920, I have a 1910 first. It works. OF 1920 is my favorite bourbon thanks to the helping hand of 1910.

    Not a big fan of the 1915 myself. Want to try something different try one part buffalo trace to 2 Parts 1920. Really brings out the flavors of both

    Hey guys, just found your channel. Great videos, keep them coming. I completely agree, the 1910 and 1920 are better individually. Together, the flavors just don't play well together. I am a huge OF and Brown Forman fan, and will try the suggestion of adding the rye by Steve.

    Even before I caught this video, I was mixing 10/20. Now I have a name!
    (Should put in a crystal decanter)
    I have also found that a splash of that smoky-savory 1910 into about any other bourbon adds real dimension.
    Good origional idea for a video.

      We actually still have our blends on hand just to try them down the road and see if they become more cohesive. We'll see!

    I have only had the 1920 and bottled in bond. I really like that 1920.

      We enjoy the 1897 as well, though we wish it sold for $7 or $8 less. The 1910 and 1920 are the class of the Whiskey Row series, in our opinion.

    Nice review. A few months back i was drinking some OF and i made up these same blends . I agree with your assessment 100% the high rye is better than the 1915 blend but still prefer the 1920 ,1910 on there own.

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Fun to try, but we're one and done on these blends.

    I think OF really shines in their higher proof whiskies.

    I can't wait to pick up both 1910 and 1920 Old Forester. Everyone just gushes when they drink them. They make it sound like their both worth the price.

    I’ve heard great things about the 1915 but, haven’t tried to create it myself

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was fun to try, but we won't do it again. 1910 and 1920 are both so delicious. It's unlikely that they can be improved upon by amateur blenders like us.

    • @ryanostmann2445
      @ryanostmann2445 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s phenomenal. The perfect medium between the two. Let it sit in a decanter for 2-3 weeks. It pulls the best parts of both whiskeys into one.

    I feel 1920 has a better nose, mouth feel and finish than the 1915..I also prefer 1910 to the 1915 due to nose and mouth feel..however neither of the 3 is bad but 1920 is my winner!!

    • @TheBourbonVan

      Nope! We recently changed the titles of a few videos to satisfy TH-cam issues and should have simply renamed it “Tasting.”

    Does it matter how long the blend sits?

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've been told that it takes a month for it to really come together. Ours were allowed to sit for about a month. We actually saved our blends and we'll revisit them down the road, potentially next year, to see if they've become more cohesive.

    I prefer 1910 over 1920. The 1920 gives me immediate heartburn (i don’t think it’s the proof because I love high proof stuff like Rare Breed, ECBPs, Stagg Jr, etc)... but there are some bourbons that just burn too much without flavors to balance our the black pepper (like WT101 and 1920). The 1910 is def a dessert bourbon (like Woodford double oaked), and I enjoy the light vanilla creme brûlée flavors with it.
    As for blends, I tend to lean more towards the 1913 over the 1915 (ratio is closer 66/33 than 50/50 with 1910 and 1920 respectively). I’ve not ever added other offerings to the the 1913 or 1915... I’ll give that a try sometime soon.

    • @TheBourbonVan
      @TheBourbonVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are definitely heartburn bourbons. Seems like different bourbons affect us differently just like different whiskeys hit our palates differently. Elijah Craig Small Batch gives me immediate heartburn, but ECBP gives me no trouble at all. Thanks for the 1913 tip.
