The Nevada BLM had strict 25 mph speed limits on the fire roads. The area is habitat to the endangered desert tortoise and yet the BLM was still gracious enough to grant us our film permit. By abiding by the rules and respecting the enviornment ensures that open desert stays open for off-road use. We're glad to hear that you still overall enjoyed the episode, we have big things in the works for next season!
Totally agree they could have gone alot faster to actually put these trucks to the test, they probably was on a tight budget and was capped on speed and probably had use the mechanics who did the part installs to run them and didnt have money to pay stunt drivers lol
Nice little run off. I like how both trucks used a slightly different approach to being prerunners (2wd vs 4wd, different suspension suppliers) and each having their own bumper and bed cage designs. I think your channel fills a nice void, thanks to all your staff. ....And to the poster who would rather beat on a stock 4runner, maybe you don't understand why we build trucks like this (yes I have a nice mid travel 2wd Titan) so I can run all day at moderate speeds and NOT be beating the heck out of my truck. I like to drive with what I call the "80% Rule"...I run at about 80% of what the truck/suspension can take so that I have some truck left in reserve in case I come up on something too fast.
Jesus people.....stop the damn arguing OK Yes there's Ford fans and Chevy fans but their just God damn opinions Ford's and Chevy's both have ups and Downs......I like both and I also like Dodge you don't have to get into an argument every time someone says something different from you.....
The shocks and suspension you put on these things are absolutely incredible. Those bypass shocks in the rear are huge and thick leaf springs. Keep up the good work guys I love the videos
We are running 800 lb springs on it...it's just a heavy truck being 4wd and a supercrew cab. And yes the Dixon Bros Kit does come with a shock tower brace for the front.
Thank you we are glad you like the show!!! We are already getting ready for season 2 and we also plan on doing some shorter web only episodes until then.
some guy down the street has a prerunner ranger and the front is much wider than the rear and i used to think it was so ugly until i saw that that was a common setup for this type of truck. sweet video btw.
can't get enough of the informational videos and how too techniques. I have a question that I haven't been able to find after searching ur many comments and videos. how well do long travel suspensions work in colder climates such Canada or Alaska were the weather gets well below freezing temperatures
Wow, most of the people commenting know absolutely nothing about Offroad racing and going fast in the Desert in your truck. You guys are more concerned with the way the truck looks then how it would perform. The reason the front-ends are setup so wide is to make the trucks more stable at high speed on uneven terrain. Look at the geometry on a real trophy truck out there and you'll see what these trucks are trying to mimic and accomplish. I think these guys did a great job at building nice Pre-runners to go play in the desert in. Nice fabrication on the bumpers and rear shock mounts. What I wanna know is when you guys are going to add some sort of Roll Cage and 5 point harnesses to keep you and your passengers safe in the event of a crash? I'm not talking about a full on SCORE spec cage front to back, but just something to keep you from dying if you flip. I've seen trucks flip doing 15 mph., let alone 80 or 90, even 100. In defense of the Ford, I really think it had a lot to do with who was driving the vehicles, and I'm sure these are there personal rides that they don't necessarily want to trash just for TH-cam to prove a point. Well anyways, Good Job guys, love the show and I look forward to seeing more builds in the future. You should do some stuff on older vehicles too. Like a K5 Blazer (BJ Baldwin's Prerunner for example) and a Full Size Bronco with long travel cut and turned TTB beams on it...
I second the FSB prerunner. BJ's prerunner is NOT the working mans ride this show focuses on i am guessing but I would like to see it too. The K5 solid axle is not the first choice of prerunning they are tuff though.
I'm sorry. Your comment is based in logic and engineering. There's no place for that here. The people of So Cal don't care how something works if it doesn't look cool. That's why I left. You've been reported. Ok, not really, but I should. Logic isn't allowed on TH-cam.
Both are ridiculously badass! Clean lines almost "sleeper" pre runners minus the dope custoFab front bumpers which are possibly the best I've seen out there. Cool sh*t gents!
Where people run into problems with spacers is the added leverage it places on the hubs. Think about it...pushing the wheels farther out from the hub places more force on them, this is what causes failure. The bearings wear out faster and you also run the risk of the spacer studs failing. Spacers might work great on a Side x Side because they are light and you really can't go that fast compared to a full-size truck that is heavier and faster.
+Dylan Morgan the tune they put on it isn't going to do much more than correct the speedometer and shift points. with 37's you'd want to 4.88's or 5.13's. they'll turn the tires much easier, and help it take off much faster. 37's on stock gears, even with a completely custom tune, is still going to be a slug compared to a properly geared truck
That front suspension setup on the Silverado seems to work pretty well for extremely low speeds. You could've literally driven a stock truck just as hard without breaking. My question is this : what is it actually capable of doing /handleing w /o a failure. If I'm going to drop that kind of coin on a suspension I want to be sure it's capable of more than some low speed tooling around.
Yes you're right we pushed the Silverado a little harder than the F150 because of the nature of the LT kit on the Silverado having a fabricated spindle and heims and uniballs. Also we had the F150 in 4WD so it was a lot more controlled lime on the dry lake bed there was no way to drift the F150 in 4WD...
good job guys, glad to see someone out there doing something like this. Both trucks look great, i would drive either one, but they both look like they need to have a little shock tuning done to really make them shine. However you have probably done that by now. the silverado looks like it gets a little squirley at higher speeds haha im also assuming that alot of the naysayers don't realize that these are privately owned vehicles and the owners each wanted something different, and treat their vehicles different off road
I'm a big Ford fan, but that being said the Chevy looks like it did way better and hauled ass. Maybe it was just two different drivers but the Chevy ate up those whoops like nothing. Both nice trucks and that mechanic was really informational and to the point. Great videos overall IMHO. Thanks!
I think it was mainly just because they were setup differently, the chevy had 16in of travel while the ford was strapped at 14 and the ford looked like it was taller in the rear which would shift the cg farther forward and tax the already inferior front suspension.
any suggestions for a suspension kit for my 2016 Silverado 2500.. I have a 6" lift from McGuaghy on it now and I hate it. I am professional hunter so I do quit a bit of off-road and I would like to make it as comfortable of an off-roader as possible
I'd like more information on these trucks. For instance weight front and rear for both trucks. Actual spring rate for the front and rear. By actual I mean at the wheels. The spring spring rate will be much stiffer due to the leverage of the control arms.
Hey live the videos ! And I do have a question. Two as a matter if fact .. I'm going to buy my first truck soon. Most likely a ranger . is the 4.0 strong enough to have fun in ? Or would you recommend a engine swap? (Just to take into open areas sandy places and also maybe some mud) The other question is can you recommend a web site on where I can buy springs bumpers tires ect. Or do you have a site of your own lol I don't know. But yeah please get back to me, I'd appreciate it! Thank you.
Congrats on wrapping up the first season! When it comes to trucks, my preference is Ford then Dodge, but I'd have to go with the Sierra between your 2 project trucks. Keep up the great work!
Did you guys do any differential upgrade for the Chevy? Personally a real differential like a Detroit TruTrac or Yukon Duragrip (and probably 4.56 gears) would have been my next modification after the suspension.
Thanks for your input...one of the things that did not translate to video was that the F150 was in 4WD so it didn't drift like the Silverado. Now our F150 is built way better than a factory Raptor, more travel and better parts like our 3" Sway Away 3-tube bypass shocks in the rear with the custom bedcage...can't get that on a Raptor...hahaha Thanks again!!!
OR the easy cheap option is to use an Aluminum spacer. Does the same job at a fraction the cost and I cant recall ever hearing anyone claim to have one fail.
If we would've ditch the beds on these trucks and just hung the glass it would've been possible. Keeping the beds would not allow the glass to be mounted wide enough to match the track width of the front.
The Chevy's kit is more of a race style kit and we had the F150 in 4wd the entire time so it wouldn't drift like the 2wd Chevy and yes the Chevy was driven harder. 4wd prerunners are much heavier so we had to take it a bit easier. Where a 4wd prerunner gets the one up is on long fire roads and deep sand or silt. On fire roads in 4hi there is no wondering of the front end.
We chose to leave the factory rear end in because 04-08 F150s have great rear ends right from the factory, and it would have been a lot more mo ey for a built 9".
Great trucks, great work doing them and making them this capable. However, did u guys really have to go only 10mph through the whole desert?! Y’all shoulda been flying through that stuff lol. Great job tho
Can we please bring back more of these videos? This is the type of stuff that inspires kids to build their dream rigs.
10 year old videos ,and I'm so behind and love every second 😂❤
I like how everybody is shit talking the trucks.... I would be happy with either of them lol
Haha same here they both look badass
The Nevada BLM had strict 25 mph speed limits on the fire roads. The area is habitat to the endangered desert tortoise and yet the BLM was still gracious enough to grant us our film permit. By abiding by the rules and respecting the enviornment ensures that open desert stays open for off-road use. We're glad to hear that you still overall enjoyed the episode, we have big things in the works for next season!
"high rate of speed over rough terrain" ?? When was that ??????? you guys drove like old ladies !!!!!
but really cool old ladies
Totally agree they could have gone alot faster to actually put these trucks to the test, they probably was on a tight budget and was capped on speed and probably had use the mechanics who did the part installs to run them and didnt have money to pay stunt drivers lol
@@paigelooney6117 For sure man, I wasn't expecting 120 mph over the whoops. At least 50-60 would have been decent
Nice little run off. I like how both trucks used a slightly different approach to being prerunners (2wd vs 4wd, different suspension suppliers) and each having their own bumper and bed cage designs. I think your channel fills a nice void, thanks to all your staff.

I like to drive with what I call the "80% Rule"...I run at about 80% of what the truck/suspension can take so that I have some truck left in reserve in case I come up on something too fast.
They made them look pretty and drove them like a prius
Fucking Primus man
look more like an advertisement for the parts and accessories than a comparison of trucks...
I am a ford guy but the Chevy looks way better
Thanks glad you like both trucks!!!
We are running 800 lb springs on it...it's just a heavy truck being 4wd and a supercrew cab. And yes the Dixon Bros Kit does come with a shock tower brace for the front.
They say they wanted to make it as fair as possible, then why weren't they both either 4-wheel drive or 2-wheel drive
Totally agree. I thought using two different drive platforms was pretty dumb after they tried to make them as even as possible lmao
Both trucks look sweet!!! I love the chip upgrade and all the add on's..
Ya it is not easy to do....glad you like our Rado
I wonder if they are running stock gears on the silverado with the 37's
both trucks are BAD ASSSSS!!!!👍🏻👍🏻
Wow thanks...glad you like the show.
Thank you we are glad you like the show!!! We are already getting ready for season 2 and we also plan on doing some shorter web only episodes until then.
Awesome episode, so good to see the trucks in the dirt
Thanks glad you like them!!!
Thank you for all your videos .... You are great guys keep up the exellent work ... Once again thanks ..

We are working on a Ram diesel build but we are still in the planning phase.

Both trucks were very cool love to own both.
I told you we'd get it to you...glad you like it and thanks for calling in your question
Both trucks are pimp in their own way💯👍good job Droop Tv
Hey Austin is was awesome riding with you to the Pioneer Saloon last sunday. That was a hell of a trip. That Silverado was sweet!
Because the long travel kits are wider than stock....this is how you get more travel mounting in the stock locations
Glad you like the show. We always like comments like yours!!!

So you put 37s on with stock gearing. How that working for ya.
It's actually kind of sad how many people make that mistake.
When you add a LT kit on your truck the track width in front is widened. To make the rear match you would need a wider axle.
37's on stock gears. Genius...
i think they are still waiting for free gearings upgrades
Great video guys! Both trucks look good, real clean!!
awesome work, love both trucks

I saw the fabricator using a very interesting saddle make for the tubing, where or who makes that?
Glad you like them!!!
Thanks we really like comments like yours!!!

Awesome footage guys, nice work!
man i love your show, i learn alot about tig welding and welding just by watching. I need hands on!!! :(
Great video guys! Keep up the good work!
Ya we learned a lot with this first head to head. We'll be posting more footage of both trucks.
any suggestions for a suspension kit for my 2016 Silverado 2500.. I have a 6" lift from McGuaghy on it now and I hate it. I am professional hunter so I do quit a bit of off-road and I would like to make it as comfortable of an off-roader as possible
I have a 97 tacoma 4 cylinder automatic extended cab, is it worth making into a pre-runner? It is really gutless but still looks good?
Doesn't seem to hurt mpg too much but we also haven't re-geared the trucks. I average 12 mpg which is horrible.
I'd like more information on these trucks. For instance weight front and rear for both trucks. Actual spring rate for the front and rear. By actual I mean at the wheels. The spring spring rate will be much stiffer due to the leverage of the control arms.
I wonder if they are running stock gears on the silverado with the 37's?
Can compare anything on the front kit while running a Heim and uniballs against weak ball joints way more travel with the uniballs
GM has their version of the Raptor. It's called the Chevy All Terrain. No release date yet tho.
nice! ill be tuning in for that.
Hey live the videos ! And I do have a question. Two as a matter if fact .. I'm going to buy my first truck soon. Most likely a ranger . is the 4.0 strong enough to have fun in ? Oh I do have another question, do you recommend a certain year ranger ? Or will a 04 do
I noticed the F150's CV axle shafts weren't spinning. Does the Ford have lockout hubs?
You guys ever do a 2009 up ram 1500?
Thanks Chris!!!
Congrats on wrapping up the first season! When it comes to trucks, my preference is Ford then Dodge, but I'd have to go with the Sierra between your 2 project trucks. Keep up the great work!
You guys should do a night run to show how great the lights work
I'm not sure what you mean by remove some fiberglass...can you give me more details?
No they are the factory vacuum actuated hubs.
So if I drive my truck to Vegas and drop it off with you guys.would you do all that you've done to your F150 project pre-runner to mine?
We are looking at doing a Dodge next season but he details haven't been worked out
Did you guys do any differential upgrade for the Chevy? Personally a real differential like a Detroit TruTrac or Yukon Duragrip (and probably 4.56 gears) would have been my next modification after the suspension.
Wow that would be an expensive season...I don't think anyone makes kits for the S10 and Dakota.
I'm a Chevy guy, so I'm obviously biased towards Chevy/Gm but that Chevy looks so much better than the f150
+Jaret Boston I'm a Ford person myself, and even I have to agree.
Thanks for your input...one of the things that did not translate to video was that the F150 was in 4WD so it didn't drift like the Silverado. Now our F150 is built way better than a factory Raptor, more travel and better parts like our 3" Sway Away 3-tube bypass shocks in the rear with the custom bedcage...can't get that on a Raptor...hahaha
Thanks again!!!
quick question. I have a 06 f150 with a 4.6l 2wd. is it worth building or should I just wait til I can afford a 5.4l?
they are going slow as hell, they need to tune the shocks and they will be able to go at least twice as fast
What’s up with the front and rear difference wheel base width on the ford? Is this normal? What’s an easy fix ?
What fender brand is on the F150 seems fitment needs to be finessed a bit
OR the easy cheap option is to use an Aluminum spacer. Does the same job at a fraction the cost and I cant recall ever hearing anyone claim to have one fail.
Haven't forgot you, we are still working on getting all the hats out.
You could still build a prerunner with your truck you just might need to gear it a little lower to compensate for the added weight and bigger tires.
Why would you put a ford 4x4 against a 2wd Silverado??
Exactly
do you have any recommendations for long travel suspension on a 2002 chevy blazer ls
On fire roads in 4hi there is no wondering of the front end.
nice fab work!
do you guys have any valance or know where i can get some? need it for my chevy silverado front bumper
What pointers do you have for a 97 tacoma build?
good point. thanks for the advice.
where can i get that suspension for my chevy looks nice
Would 35" Falken tires go good with my 08 silverado?
Beaudet Motorsports Depends what type of tire from Falken.
How high does the Silverado sit ?
What upper strut brace is this on the f150?
It would be awesome if they tested the trucks while they were stock. Then build the pre runners and test again.
lol I beleive it. Looks very good and professionally done. :)
That disclaimer has to be there for television.
nice job making the front 6 inches wider than the rear.... if your not gonna go all the way. dont go..
We chose to leave the factory rear end in because 04-08 F150s have great rear ends right from the factory, and it would have been a lot more mo ey for a built 9".
+Lance Roark That would have been a great comment except for the juvenile name calling.
+consaka1 my bad, I must have been in a bad mood.
Lance Roark Next time a bit of apple pie first. hehehe Get a little relaxed with some hot apple cider, then go watch videos. ;)
+consaka1 probably wouldn't work, very little does.
We did look into a Tacoma but they were more expensive than the F150...maybe in an upcoming season. Season 2 we are building a V8 Ranger race truck
The suspension on the front of the Ford is basically the bump stop
Great trucks, great work doing them and making them this capable. However, did u guys really have to go only 10mph through the whole desert?! Y’all shoulda been flying through that stuff lol. Great job tho
