Sellers shouldn't have to take getting scammed on the chin or as part of doing business. Sure it may happen in life but it happens all too often on eBay and they need to do better all the way around.

@Eric Choi My family is in the jewelry business and at one point there was a company that (tried) to have their diamonds sent to us for local customers to come in and view them in a real store. For obvious reasons we declined to participate...we sell OUR diamonds. But that would be one way to have better protection for your sale, send it to certified showrooms.

I mostly am a buyer on ebay (sold only three items), but only once did a seller try to scam me out of $5900.00. Bought and paid for a luxury massage chair and the seller kept putting off shipment/delivery, and even offered lots free extra's as compensation for the delay. What they were really trying to do is delay shipping long enough that it went past the buyer protection period so that I could not file a claim with ebay. I filed my claim with about four days left and my money was refunded as the seller had never shipped the item.

Recently someone scammed me of $190 including free shipping back and forth and they had 4K+ reviews. He was able to exploits listing mistakes on my part. I sold two items and only listed one in the images. I tested both items before I packed them and the person claims they didn’t work or power on. It’s terrible that people always have to find a loop hole. I learned a major lesson in listing descriptions and no more refunds ever.

I just lost an eBay case today and the buyer scammed me out of a brand new pair of jeans. And this guy only lives 5 minutes from me! He claimed that the package had been tampered with and instead of the jeans that I sent him in the package was a different pair of pants! I have 15 years selling on eBay with 100% feedback and this guy is on eBay less than a month with only 1 feedback and he wins the case!!! They say it was our of his control. Well all he did was switch out the pants! I am pissed! 15 years with them means absolutely nothing! I even had to pay for the return shipping !! So basically he stole a pants from me and on top of that I had to pay for him to send me a crappy old pair of pants! Ugghhh! I'm so frustrated with eBay and that is why I would never sell a high prices item on ebay!

Yes I had a buyer contact me before the sell asking if I combined shipping on some pottery items. I told him I would combine 2 items in a $15 priority box but more than that the items were likely to break. So he bought 3 items and after the sell wanted me to rewrite the offer for 3 items with $15 shipping. I refused to change the description of sell and he threatened to give me negative feed back if I did not. So since no money had changed hands I just cancelled the deal. Can't give negative feedback on a deal that did not finalize. Reported him to eBay and they gave him 3 black marks as a buyer for each item.

I don't know if this policy changed recently, but a scam buyer won a bid with a newly created fake account, and before he paid threatened to leave me bad feedback if I didn't ship to an different address than the one on his account, and also said he couldn't pay me until AFTER he got a tracking number. I canceled the order, and he left negative feedback. Ebay refused to remove it even with the message proof I sent.

I recently sold a painting for $900, had a special crate built to ship it in, shipped ups insured and the buyer claimed the painting had a tiny chip in the paint and wanted a refund.
I did not offer refunds in my listing and the buyer knew this, I corresponded through eBay and they sent me a very deceitful email that basically said that they demanded a refund, eBay already checked the box that said I would agree to this and you could not offer any other solution, when I tried to exit the email (in ebay’s correspondence system) it then acknowledged that I agreed to the refund.
I was pissed off and called eBay to resolve this, I was routed to a call center in the Philippines where the person speaking to me spoke very broken English and did not understand what I was trying to tell her happened. After about an hour of this getting nowhere and then speaking to a supervisor who spoke slightly better English, we got nowhere.
The customer said to me they left the painting on the front porch for 3 days while he went fishing, it was below freezing each day.
There is a lot more to this story but not enough time here, in the end eBay sided with the customer, I lost $900 and the customer has not returned the painting. PayPal already reversed the money without due process or hearing from me.
I have sold on eBay for 18 years and have 27,985 feedbacks, all positive

so putting "no refunds" in your listing effectively does nothing, correct? what's the purpose of it then exactly? im new to selling so im rather confused by this. if this is the case, why doesn't ebay just make every seller automatically offer 30 day returns?? lol
do you have any tips at all? cant believe somebody with 27k 100%+ feedback would experience this kind of robbery lol.

    • @ChiselMouse
      @ChiselMouse 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@yukoncorneliusthelegendhim9751 It's true. I learned this the hard way also, though fortunately on a much less expensive item. You don't technically have to take the return, but Paypal reverses the funds from you anyway. Ebay is absolute TRASH. I don't resell as a money making venture, but was instead selling things of my own that I don't want/need and are of some value. After selling about 50 items, I have been screwed in some way or another on about 1 out of every 5. People winning the auction and falling off the face of the earth, people wanting to return things because of flaws that were both clearly described and photographed, people ignoring plainly described things like the size of a shirt, people wanting to "split the shipping cost" with me, people making offers equal to 5% of the starting bid/BIN price. If dealing with those idiots isn't enough, ebay then won't back you up and now there are more headaches like astronomical shipping costs, sales tax, low prices because everybody and their dog is running out to the thrift store to find stuff to "flip" and there is a surplus of items. It's not worth the headache.

I've had pretty good results. I got burned once by a shitty buyer. For a few hundred bucks. But overall It's gone well. A buyer opened a return case on me for a very expensive vintage item that it was "inauthentic". All pieces were tagged and well known to that brand, in nearly mint condition. He swapped the key piece of the item for one in rough shape and kept an expensive accessory. EBay refunded him, paid him to rip me off with my own money. I appealed, what a joke that was, it's a temporary appeasement. I got a defect because I refused to give in to a scammer. I have tons of pics, placed my ad exactly as eBay advises. It did no good.
They MIGHT have given me half, but I would have to give free shipping to be eligible. Paying all the postal fees then become protection money, that's organized crime!
I bought something last year, she sent me an empty padded envelope. EBay sided with her because it was tracked and delivered.

A refreshing attitude. A few eBay sellers have put up TH-cam videos on how to deal with buyer scams. But they focus on how to make your store policies to avoid the scams, regardless of the problems such policies create for honest buyers. You guys seem to understand that "stuff" is going to happen, and it's a cost of doing business. We sellers need to focus our policies on what attracts and satisfies the 99% of honest buyers, rather than on the 1% of bad buyers. Thanks.

Also helps to always look at a buyer's "feedback left for others." Lots of negatives? That's going to be a problem buyer.
When someone asks me a lot of questions about an item, I always check his/her flfo, that's saved me a lot of problems -
I block them right away if they have given other sellers a lot of negative feedback. And I base it on what they are saying, because sometimes negative feedback is called for.

Here's the way that I got a return scam on eBay. I sold somebody an item. They got the item and claimed that it did not work as described. they open the case. They got a shipping label to ship it back and put it in a larger package it weighed more than what the shipping label covered. When it got to me with postage due USPS will not deliver. USPS ships it back to the original shipper which was my buyer. They not only got return rewarded to them they also got to keep my product. That was a $200 hickey. I complain to eBay and they said there was no way around their decision to refund my buyer.

NEVER GIVE A DISCOUNT ON EBAY. You get them to ship it back to you and full refund. Then ban then from bidding on your listings in future. NEVER GIVE A DISCOUNT OR THEY WILL DO IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER. PS you do not have to pay for the return shipping that is the buyers responsibility, at no point does Ebay force you to pay return shipping.

That is the classic "my poop can not possibly stink" ...everything is case by case ... sometimes you might actually have sold a bum item....just because you failed to spot it does not mean it's not true! TRUE STORY...I bought a sealed box SUPPOSED to be a microsoft brand mouse....opened it up and there was some no brand clear purple used mouse in the box...so I return it OF COURSE ...seller calls me a crook and claims there is no way possible that could be ...but it HAPPENED! I have never been so humiliated in my life....I refused to shop at that store for over 10 years! They lost thousands of dollars of business simply by refusing to trust a proven loyal customer ...was a $29 mouse I bought for a $1200 laptop I picked up same store the day before....THAT was sheer stupidity on management's part....that woman just had the attitude I guess that all the customers with problems are liars and thieves....statistically most people are quite honest...

PayPal said they have my back and I should win. Well I lost. The credit card company sided with the buyer so he got to keep my item and get a full refund. PayPal charged me a $20 charge back fee too. @Ferdorski - yep I had a couple of local sellers set out to destroy my feedback. I was doing really well and I guess they wanted to kill the competition. They kept starting new accounts. My feedback had been perfect for years. Sellers are treated like shit, I had to stop selling, it wasn't worth the stress. My area in my city is full of criminals. Pick ups became a real concern, even though I was meeting them in a public place. One guy turned up and didn't even look at the item, studied me instead, then said it wasn't what he wanted and left!! He just wanted to find out who I was. And others where I was worried for my safety. The biggest security concern is without a PO Box (which I couldn't afford), eBay give them your address so you run the risk of being broken into at home. I just couldn't take that risk. My son lives with me and our security is paramount. Scammers can return an empty box and you lose your money and the item. They can return something months after purchase, use it and wreck it, then say it wasn't as described! It's bullshit. It's such a shit website. They don't care though. They want to get rid of the small sellers, turn it over to the Chinese. The Chinese have taken over Australia, they may as well have eBay as well. I refuse to buy from any Chinese seller on principle mainly because they are responsible for our high postage costs, but more I won't go into. Anyway, it's a shame and in time, everyone will leave

He claimed that the products were made of plastic and they were made of wood. I had to lose $300 just make him to leave my shop, and that was not the end So far this is just a general explanation He asked me to send him more free products and if I do not send him more products he will give me negative feedback (this is extortion by threats) until I went to the police and filed a complaint about extortion with threatening threats and the Japanese police file it to the interpol ,To continue handling the complaint, Etsy of course helped partially and removed the negative feedback but only partially, my shop went through hell but what does not kill you only make you strong , Keep the good work Bear

Just had a scammer saying “damaged” didn’t give any response when I asked in what way it was damaged. It was a collectible figure, brand new. We photograph every item pre-ship, in box, etc, labeled, etc. The person then gets the return damaged label, and I check tracking, it says “undeliverable”. I call USPS, post master calls me and asks what I sent them, I told him dimensions and weight from the original label. He said “No, this is a flat padded envelope, with a slap sticker on it, where they put a different address.” eBay still refunded them, we have a police report open, and eBay is going to manually refund but they’re eating the losses. Makes me wonder if I should eat it as a cost of business but I have since blocked all buyers with less than 5 reviews. It’s always a zero feedback buyer who commits this fraud, and it is mail fraud the post mater told me.

The case I got back was covered in pet hair and was obviously WAY older than 2 weeks! Of course eBay took the buyer's side! That would not have hurt so much but it was an $80 item! My son had to suffer for that, he got back junk and just had to throw it away. I bet without a doubt they had one that was broken by their own carelessness and they shipped back theirs only to keep my son's brand new item! Hell has a special place for those type of scum! It makes me wonder if these scammers really understand who it is that they are taking from..the reason I shop on eBay is because I know it’s the average Joe like myself trying to make a living who needs my money compared to the Walmart’s of the world..I take every opportunity I can to avoid giving corporations my money. I look at the sellers profile to make sure of who I am giving my business to and if I do receive an item that’s not what I expected, and a low enough price, I just chalk it up as oh well, they got me but at least I know it’s not some group of people who have plenty already and are taking just to take...I once ordered an activation sim kit that came with the 30 day service card for prepaid phones. The listing clearly said this and I was smart and took a screenshot of it before buying. When I got the items which I ordered four of for my sons as well, I got the SIM cards out of one kit that all had the same sim number. I then googled the numbers and found out it was already in use! So, I emailed the seller and flat out told them I’m not one to give negative feedback cuz I also sell on eBay and as a seller, eBay is pretty hard on me with what I sell and conduct my business and this fraud would have me shut down on eBay for good. I do not want to give bad feedback or get any case opening because this would make them look so bad....and sent them a copy of the screenshot of before I ordered and a screenshot of the same listing number and that the listing had been revised since to show something completely different then what I actually ordered. This has happened a lot on eBay for me as a buyer...people selling shit that’s so not what they described and this makes me angry because it makes the rest of us look bad too...this scamming bs goes both ways and the dishonest people are making everyone’s lives that much harder because of greed. Remember who it is that you are doing wrong by...eBay is a good platform for the everyday person to make a bit of cash to keep their lives afloat...we aren’t corporations who actually need the loss to keep from paying in too much taxes...so any person out there willing to rip off another average person is just flat out soulless and evil. Take screenshots of the items before u make your purchase...it has helped me in several cases unfortunately yes, several scams being pulled on me...I can’t even imagine the extent of it in the whole spectrum.

I'm not a seller, but as someone who's messed with an email scammer for fun, communication might help. Talk to them in an attempt to work things out. It'll take patience though. Keep your messages with them strictly on eBay, staying as calm and in control as you can. Stay on topic and keep it professional. Even if they get abusive. The scammers will either get impatient and slip up revealing their intent to scam, or drop it to keep from getting caught. Either way, you'll have a record of everything that was said all stored in eBay's messaging system. If they get obnoxious and abusive, it will all be there in your messages which can be reported, i'm sure. You're supposed to "play nice" in eBay communications by their own rules. Do NOT get angry with them in writing. You'll come out looking like the professional if you stay calm. Let them show their true nature and hopefully it will help back you up and save you some money. I'm a buyer and I hate seeing a lot of you being scammed.

And as a woman, I won't do face to face exchange, because 1, I don't want some stranger to know where I live & 2 they could attack me & just take what they want. Or just as bad, when we meet they try to take advantage by playing "Let's make a deal" to get a discount. It's dangerous to do that any way you look at it.😕

You don't have them go to your house, you meet somewhere very public like a coffee shop, somewhere you know has cameras, don't meet them at their car, if they try to play make a deal just leave, move on, sometimes sales fall through. But this way is WAY better than sight-unseen and all the hassle that eBay sellers/buyers can deal with when it comes to scammers online.

I was about to start selling my massive collection of books but now I’m scared. I was scammed out of a brand new DVD a few years ago by a lady who kept making up excuses about returning the item (my mom died, my kid is sick, my other kid has Down syndrome, my dog is sick, my car, my job, blah blah blah). I cut her slack for a while but then she closed her account and eBay was no help.

Just don’t sell to people with less than like 10 ratings..record and take pictures of you giving it to the post office that’s way if you ever get scammed you have evidence.. Sell books that don’t cost too much at first that way you’re more comfortable using it. I’m not an eBay seller by the way I just watch a lot of people who selll on eBay I’m thinking about selling soon but I won’t be selling anything more than 100

I also never give discounts. Don't like it? Ship it back, ill resell it.I mark my items too, photograph everything, etc. If you switch items on me, they are discretely marked and photographed. I will show that evidence to ebay. One idiot tried this shit on me. Bought a video card, said it doesn't work, and wanted a 75% discount. I said hell no, send it back. He did, one of the caps was broken off. The card was packaged extremely well, and the shipping box was undamaged. He broke it off to get a discount. I resoldered it back on, tested and resold the card. I even got the shipping back from ebay and idiot had to swallow the shipping costs. Screw these people. Ebay ALWAYS sides with me, because i am detailed and always have photographic evidence with dates, time and i mark my items in hidden non damaging spots to make sure the actual item comes back. Its all photographed as well. A red touch up paint dot works well.

I thought I was the only one! I love getting them to incriminate themselves like hey I got the item about to approve the return but I need u to confirm that you sent everything back as it was to you. Arrogant fucks always say yes. Another great trick was holding onto tracking #s w/o directly uploading. Can't count how many times I seen a item delivered just to get a message 2 days later with dude asking angrily where his shit is. I say omg I'm so sorry u haven't received it yet? Just assuming there was no tracking. Best part was once they do that which is the easiest/laziest way then they can't pull the not as described bs. But that's gone now too.

If it's not busy and its the USPS you can ask if you and open the item at there counter before you ship. USPS counter is under video surveillance also you can ask on a return item if you can open box at there counter, if USPS cooperates and the scammer sent you a damaged or different item all together you can file a report to the post master general. If the transaction is across state lines this is Mail Fraud which is a federal offense. I heard this from a video on TH-cam they had a small Post office that would help them.

    LOVE the JP SHIRT!!!
I've been scammed and I am a small time seller of toys and collectibles so you'd think...WHY???? Why would anyone scam me? But they do!
And eBay SUCKS when it comes supporting the Seller!
Regarding the "change of address". If the buyer claimed "they moved" or it is "a gift", make the buyer go in and change the address themselves before you ship. I went back and forth with a buyer who had not entered the correct zip code but I refused to ship until they fixed it!
Regarding Damaged or Not As Described...ONE TIME!!! I received photos of something that was "damaged" and it wasn't the item I sold! AND...I could not get eBay CS to believe me!!!!
I just about had a nervous breakdown over a $10 sale...not because of the money!!! BECAUSE OF THE PRINCIPLE! eBay believed them when CLEARLY it was NOT the same item that was in my LISTING PHOTOS!
I don't usually "plug" my videos...but I was just hit with the Russian Scam!
    th-cam.com/video/dyqTrhuXgi0/w-d-xo.html
I managed to catch it in time BEFORE I refunded them!

I feel that I am being scammed buy a seller ! Couple months ago I bought a kitchen mixer off ebay au. When it arrived, i found it not as described at all! It was supposed to have a whisk included which was not, and it was made from such cheap soft plastic that you couldn't attach the mixer to the stand. The seller sent me a return label, I repacked the mixer exactly as it came and sent it back. About a week after mailing it back, lost the tracking number given to me from Australia Post, think I threw it out without thinking I would need it, and on messaging them through Ebay, found that they are denying they even received the item back. Since then they have been asking me if I was sure I returned it and how was it packed and could I look for the tracking number ! Also saying they will look through their returns etc etc. It was for $48.00 otherwise I would just forget it. So it looks like I'll be going to Ebay to have it resolved. Arrrghhhh. Dishonest people suck !

I recently had items on auction. 1 item I got a offer for it, so I accepted it. Buyer never paid.
Another item sold for minimum bid price, buyer also never paid.
So I believe there are people that might be selling the same thing, they basically force your actions off the market to remove competition.
So be aware of first time buys with no ratting.

Scrutinize sellers==There is a catch 22 situation--people like me will not buy from new sellers, so with fewer bidders they are likely to not get a good price. Some will bite the bullet and ship, others will not ship and not answer emails. Also, ebay has cracked down on drop shippers but I imagine there are a few still sneaking through. Report them to ebay, they are just a problem waiting to happen.

I bought a hefty paper shredder sold as new. When I got it, it was obviously used (tested) there were even lots of confetti paper in the box. When I unpacked it, it was broken. There was a crack across the top near the paper input slot, and it was supposed to sit on a small table sized frame, the front of which pulls out like a drawer. The frame was broken so the heavy shredding unit wouldnt sit on there at all, it was dangerous. The seller didn't argue and didn't want it back. He did ask me to photograph the issues which I did first. I felt pretty bad as it was a pretty costly item, around 70 dollars I guess, but closer inspection later revealed that there was missing packaging. I think there was a polystyrene moulding in the bottom of the box, and there should have been another at the top, after the product was packed in there. It was missing allowing it to move around in the box. This was from a seller with over 4000 positive feedbacks and negligible negatives. So it was not new, and it was damaged (they claim in transit but given the poor packaging, I am not sure) Goes to show you that you can't take anything at face value on ebay. It makes me mad when I work so carefully with things I sell, and most things I buy (new things anyway) are almost always well packed and perfect. Ebay don't help, I kinda feel they are only interested in the 20% commission (including the sister company's paypa share).

Then found out one charger cable was still not working. We explain to the seller, he was very keen to send us a new charger cable. The seller will have to lose more money just to send another cable and he didnt even ask us to send him back the faulty one. In all the times you both recorded a returned item when the seller was a scammer did the video alone win you the case?
    What percentage of the time?
They say there is the you sent the wrong item/not as described scam like he explains with Mario but where the buyer sends back nothing at all or something else completely. One example was someone bought some samurai swords put not as described and the buyer sent the seller a box of sticks with tracking.
Plus the buyer scam where they claim you sent them nothing at all? How do you protect against that?
Do you record yourself packing each expensive item?
The global shipping program is supposed to protect sellers.Cant we just do all our shipping to there even if it supposed to go to another state in USA?
I do not know if the ebay facility in Kentucky takes photos of the items we send but they claim they will protect us as sellers and any expensive item I would rather they ship it to another part of USA for me.This way the you sent nothing/not as described/wrong item scams should all fail?
Thank You to both of you and anyone who replies.

I use a ultra violet marker pen to mark the item next to the Serial Number I video tape it that the mark is visible and it goes into the box with the shipping label clearly visible. Then I always ask for a receipt if I use a drop off. If they return it as non functioning I do the video log like you described from mailbox unboxing and UV ID.
