Kazi Nzuri. Tuijenge AFRIKA MASHARIKI YETU sote.

Actually the google translator is very good. I like their English - Spanish translator very much. However, the one for Swahili is very poorly done. I think it was done by a non Swahili speaker. I am in the process of creating a better Swahili - English and Swahili - Spanish translator.

Jameni mwenzengu nafikiri hapo umepotea kidogo. Tanzania haina uwezo kujenga SGR bila mkopo. Wala sio Tanzania peke yake, nchi nyingi bara Africa. Actually in all EME (Emerging Market Economies) in and outside Africa they all relly heavily on these tradional infrustructure funding sources; government budgets, international donors and banks. www.theeastafrican.co.ke/business/Tanzania-secures-SGR-loan-from-Stanchart/2560-4761190-lejnj/index.html

I have been coming to Kenya since 2005 and planning to move there later this year. Kenya has improved so much since I first started going. When the railroad went from Nairobi to Mombasa was finished, it took so many of the big trucks off of Mombasa Road. That was a major help and takes my time in half when driving to the coast. I'm very happy that the beautiful country of Kenya, which I will soon call home, is updating the infrastructure. This will help in so many ways, improving lives and creating jobs. Now, if Kenya would do something about the ridiculously high prices of buying a car there. A car in Kenya costs three times the price of what it does in the USA. I absolutely cannot understand that a bit. In the USA, you can buy a Land Rover for the same price of a Toyota Belta in Kenya. This needs to be the next area looked at to improve.

Ya true they have... in fact the government is about to enforce a law that bars importation of second hand cars. They have stated they will start by barring those above 1500cc then later those below. This move will encourage manufacturers to set plants in Kenya as importing a new car can be quite expensive. Which totally make sense, a plant to serve the entire East African population will be a win win for everyone.

Many congolese including myself believe that the real endgame since the fall of Mobutu has been to break up Congo like the Balkans a project by western powers using our eastern neighbors to help create chaos in the mining areas. As for Ramazani, he's just a weak fellow with no power base being used in Kabila's game. The only solution in Congo is revolution. That means ridding not only Kabila but his entire organisation must be put on trial for their crimes as happened in Nuremberg. When Zaire fell we lost our national sovreignty to Rwanda and it has never been fully restored, Kabila being the biggest obstacle.

I am going to repeat this post for all of those that complain about the cost of a railroad.
In the early 1800s America spent what today would be Billions and Billions of dollars on building railroad after railroad after railroad.
Because of all those railroads Coal mines and oil wells prospered because they could get their coal to cities and oil to refineries.
Because of this Steel mills popped up and were busy because railroads could get them the huge supplies of coal and Iron ore they needed.
Because of this, Machine shops, shipyards and eventually automobile plants were able to flourish because they had a good supply of steel that could be brought to them by rail.
The automobile then revolutionized everything and made the economy boom even more.
The point is yes infrastructure is expensive but it's benefits can be extremely rewarding.
It's like an automobile. It is very expensive compared to buying a loaf of bread or buying a bicycle to get around. But if one owns an automobile you can then start a taxi service and make lots of money to support your family. Or you could use it to transport goods to a store you start tat becomes a success. Or you could use it to get back and forth to a very good paying job that is far away from your house.
In the same way railroads, highways, power plants, are all very expensive but they are necessary if you wish to really move forward. This has been true in America, Europe, Japan, China and it will be no different in Africa.

It is not selfless dedication to Africa that we Chinese help Africa. We want all the people involved to benefit from it, which is a favorite way of thinking in China. We have helped build railways in Africa, and we hope that improvements in transport facilities will raise the level of economic development in the countries of the continent. As the economic level rises, the people become wealthy and have a strong ability to consume, they can do business with more Chinese and create a larger market together. Perhaps at present, the cost of railway construction for many countries in Africa is still relatively expensive, but this is what you must do to achieve development. Chinese people think that a social system with no guarantee of food and clothing, education, health care, life safety, and unilateral emphasis on Western-style democracy is meaningless. More than 100 years ago, China was threatened by western countries with warships and artillery, signed unequal contracts, colonized by Western countries, and invaded by Japanese armed forces. The whole country became a battlefield, and tens of millions of people died of war and disease. When the People's Republic was founded in 1949, the whole country looked like a ruin. The people's food and clothing have not been solved. A large number of illiterates. At that time, no ordinary people would believe that 70 years later China will achieve the rise of the country. So, I think Africa can do the same, as long as unity, as long as efforts, there is no problem can not be solved.

An example is the Kirere-Kamukabi-Mununga-Kangare road. Or the Mombasa rd-Syokimau-Katani-Utawala road, its been a year of bad roads yet less than 6km are tarmaced. Disgraceful.

Anytime you got a huge project the best way to pay for it is as Hawaii payed for it rail system 8 -10 billion. The government open a rail fund that separate. And tax all sales 1 penny of a dollar. The amount of sales per day is billion in a few years. And it’s progress the rich or tourist pays more than the citizen. Our were collected about over 300 million a quarter so that about 1.3 billion every year from that penny tax.

I am going to repeat this post to all of those that complain about the cost of a railroad.

Japans government experienced a big budget catastrophe when it was spending huge amounts of money to develop it's railroads and industrialize. Even though it was getting lots of investment money from it's private sector. Successful textile mills, mining companies, and ship lines through out Japan as well as the wealthy Emperor invested heavily in rail roads and they got good returns on their investments.

@@gacaptain I also saw a documentary of how Russia built its Trans Siberian railway, the country almost become bankrupt and that is why they were almost defeated by Germans in the first and second world wars. However, the railway helped them to control central Asia and exploit the wealth of minerals in the hinterland. I am sure that once our SGR is complete, people will realize how cheap the project is.

Change Africa first economically then politically towards to whatever direction they would like to chose, it is much better than waiting for Africa to be 100% politically correct before anything like this can be delivered. People, especially the poor, just do not have the luxury to wait for e.g. another 70 years. Corruption is everywhere, which is just a part of life or a part of the running cost, nations should not be stopped from development because of it.

Or should one be more concerned with the availability of affordable, accessible transportation that will increase productivity in the economy and enable the smooth movement of people?
As an African I chose the latter. After all, if we cannot service the debt the Chinese will not uproot the railroads, motorways, power stations etc and take them back to China.
