Synopsis: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda historically have been politically and economically close. The three countries recently entered into an economic union together, a consequence of which was the reopening of the railroad between Kenya and Uganda's capitals. ABC Australia travels on the newly opened railway.

In 1974 I had the good fortune to travel East African Railways (EAR) from Nairobi to Mombasa for a family holiday. Overnight trip, bunk beds, eating in the dining car. What a memorable experience.
My parents enjoyed a trip around Lake Victoria on MV Victoria. Many, many years ago.
