    Disappeared runs: Bankstown circle in both directions. Liverpool via Regents Park (except now during trackwork). Liverpool via Granville used to originated from the north shore line.

    I had no idea on how exactly clear-ways project was executed until now. Great video

    This is a great video. I've been really getting into the Sydney rail network lately, since I'm heading up there in a couple of weeks and plan on doing a fair bit of train travel up there. (I'm even heading up on the XPT.) I'd love to see more videos on Sydney's rail system if you're able to, especially since, as I've discovered, it seems VERY complex when compared to Melbourne's. For example, could you maybe do an explainer video(s) of lines/line groups/line and service configurations/service patterns (i.e. express vs stops all stations and different branch lines on the same group)/alternate routes certain services can use/terminating and turnback stations/where and why different lines interconnect with each other at all the various interchange stations and whatever else you can think of? I'd love to see that.

    The doubling of the line past st marys towards penrith never happened due to financial set backs, but you can clearly see the planned platforms and footbridge supports with kingswood and werrington alongside unused rail grade and electrical way huts being futher away from the rail line then needed.
    Also, Carlingford was envisioned to be much more worthwhile with proposed connections to Epping, which would've been more feasible had this push forward

    Great video, great explanation. Plus love all the platform footage from my local station, Macdonaldtown.

    What an interesting video - typical that my station has the upgrades not completed twice (erskineville).

    • @MetroManMelbourne
      @MetroManMelbourne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      erskineville really has missed out on anything at all. Would be good to at least get a bit of a refresh at some point though the need for extra tracks is much less now bankstown is being diverted into sydney metro. Could see potential for them long-term to separate T4 local and express into the city.

    Minor point, you can only store 3 x 8 car trains beyond the platforms at Bondi Junction.

    Correction the Cause of the 2003 Waterfall Accident was not due to consciousness it was due to the driver suffering from a heart attack and died at the control the dead man switch was basically useless as the drivers foot was still on the pedal

    It wasn't just the carlingford line that was closed for the Metro/Light Rail.......Sydenham to Bankstown has been converted and parts of thr Airport line is being planned for the same fate

    Was the proposed quadruplication from Chatswood to St Leonards part of this? There's a long section of track where two other tracks could be slotted in between these stations

    Hey, you know, I think that the city circle line in Melbourne would be the smallest rapid transit system in the world if it existed today. About 6km of track but it's a single track so it would make it more like a 3km system compared to the Minatomirai line which is 4km of double-track.

      Still runs every now and then when other loops are shut down. You're probably right about it being one of the smallest "rapid transit" (effectively) systems in the world i it was open.

    Clearways project was to allow for separation of lines into sectors for better running and preparation for privatisation. The latter didn't happen but instead you have the increasing network of driverless metro trains, nicely automated and non-unionised computer drivers.

    • @MetroManMelbourne
      @MetroManMelbourne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Given the drastic failure of Melbourne's privatisation I sure hope Sydney stays publicly run.
