I make videos about Melbourne's Public Transport systems, including their history, how they work now and what might happen in the future. I also explain public transport projects and occasionally post other content and trainspotting. I hope you enjoy!
I make my videos on stolen Wurundjeri country.

Why Your Train Doesn't Stop At This Station

🤗😤🫠😳😥😡😐😮💨💀😮💨☠️🫳🏿🫳🏿🫳🏿
Started a new job a few weeks ago and this is the closest station, such a pain in the arse. Enjoyed the video.
Risson was a good soldier. Attacked where he could. Made necessary tactical retreats like with the Geelong tram network which he had to sacrifice and then used psychological warfare as seen with citizen tram. Meant he could arm twist Sir Henry Bolte, a man who went through his political life with near impunity into agreeing that the Melbourne tram network would endure.
The Elsternwick Point Irmond Tram Line was actually pulled up in 1963 - remember watching the workmen doing this standing at the fence facing Glenhuntly Road during lunch whilst in first year at Elwood Primary School
This service has been mooted for many years, but successive liberal governments ( Bolte / Hamer ) spent sweet FA on infrastructure as far as rail was concerned, now a few Labor governments have failed in this matter. The area has had huge growth over the years but nothing has happened
Metro must've seen your video - the train timetable display were updated just last week haha! though seems like they've upgraded few more stops on that line since the one at Hawthorn has been updated as well.
Maybe East Richmond station will get an upgrade when apartments are built over it.
Good job. My head almost fell off at the end when you suggested the state Libs would support the line work because here in SA, the Libs have been consistently against train/tram extension and improvement. They constantly use the terms Waste of Money & White Elephant. Wonderful to see Victoria doing so well.
of course i find this video comes to exist *after* i no longer need to make the commute to east richmond station 3 times a week, and i've made like 5 (maybe even more) complaints to ptv about this 💀 also, screw google maps for not showing me that a tram route from richmond to east richmond stations exists…
sooooo according to this so called "the book of rules", you'd get well over 50+ toots (whistles) just for that station every hour by the drivers? screw that place!! or do they get some special treatment?
nope that's basically correct
Absolutely hate that this is my nearest station. Going to work I can choose between the 0658 (obviously far too early), 0842 (more ideal, but makes me late to work), 0923 (a 40 minute wait if I miss the 0842). It's an absolute joke of a station. Fortunately it's a lot better on the way home, which in fairness I care a lot more about!
Great video, and fascinating info, but maybe slow down your narration a little bit. You tend to slur some words together and it can be a little distracting during your faster moments.
thanks for the feedback
As someone who works in the area this station doesn't have high enough frequency. The problem with looking at passenger numbers is people will often choose another form of transport if the wait is too long. For example it's a 10min walk from Richmond station so if I have to wait 10 mins I will walk instead because I will get the exercise instead of just sitting for 10 mins. We should be aiming for a turn up and go service in Melbourne at all stations but currently the frequency is too long at a lot of stations including East Richmond
Its so close it Richmond, I doubt frequency would make a material difference to passengers.
nice video and love the facts! ❤
How'd you get the HQ announcement at the start?
Don't the Alamein trains also stop at East Richmond? Not just the Glen Waverley trains
also, I do not undertand the nostalgia for the Hitachis. loud as fk, full of graffiti and gave that awful smell from the brakes. i suppose the seats were comfortable if you avoided a syringe.
yup the 2000's was the worst. i remember being stuck on trains for hours at a time.
eyyyyy 335m ive been on it and its in the vid
How did you get such clean direct audio of the train route announcement?
It's also like a 2 minute tram ride between Richmond & East Richmond station, so it wouldn't really improve commute times for many people
City Loop Reconfiguration could address these capacity issues by linking Glen Waverley with Upfield. I am not holding my breath though.
The fact that its almost all houses along this corridor now means it should open.
I recall working as a travel consultant for Australian Airlines at their Sydney head office in Chifley Square.Pre internet.A very different booking system then.!.
What do you use to edit?

@@MetroManMelbourne legend
The usage would be higher if the service was better. When services are infrequent, passengers to/from the city use the 70 tram instead.
tl:dr the people with deepers pockets wanted an airport and kennet said its either rail or air and they chose air
not really, no
do u thing metro gonna have a double decker train once ?
I've made a video on that (the 4D) before!
(Eltham mentioned, invariably being a pain in the ass for everyone just coz) So proud of my hometown 🫡
Why don't you talk about the line between Leongatha and Yarram, or even Woodside? That's the REAL South Gippsland line!
As a person that uses the glen waverly line it always* goes to east richmond :)>}}.
I was expecting South Kensington based on the title 😅
Upgrades are generally justified on safety requirements rather than purely pax numbers. Unless there's a risk of tripping, issues with disabled access, has design elements which inhibit operations or it happens to be the central 'hub'/identity of the suburb, there's no reason to upgrade a station. It's just a waste of money.
Minor points. The big apartment building shown at 3:56 is on what used to be a servo. The tram depot was where the smaller buildings were on the left of the image next to what was the servo. The tram depot became a bus depot, the old tram route became the No. 600 bus though it only went as far as Park St (nowhere in particular), not all the way to Brighton Beach station, which was dumb. In the 80s, it was running buses built for the 1956 olympics. The depot survived until about 1990. Re the Point Ormond tram, the silver metal poles found along most tram line are still located along that section of GH Rd. I note in your comments you said you weren't sure if they are tram poles but I'm pretty sure they are. Enjoyed the video, the fist three lines are from the part of Melb I grew up in. In the mid 80s, coming home on my bike from my girlfriend's house in the middle of the night, I took cover from a massive storm in the old tram stop near Dendy Beach, always wondered why there was a seemingly random old shelter there. Thanks.
Thanks for the information!!
You should do another video on South Kensington since it's got a similar issue.
I remember East Richmond well. It was the closest station to my hotel when I visited Melbourne in October 2013. This video was an eye-opener for me because I previously knew nothing about the station's history. As an example of the situation with Belgrave trains, my family went to the Puffing Billy Railway one day, but initially had to get a Blackburn service and change at Camberwell. At the time, we didn't realise that most Belgrave services skip East Richmond.
I was going into the city on the train a few days ago and we had to move to the side outside East Richmond to let another train pass. The train very slowly started creeping towards the platform which would have seemed like we were stopping. That's when the people on the platform walked up to the train and tried to get in but we kept creeping along slowly then left. At this point, I'm convinced the entire train network is in on elaborate plan to be cruel to those who get on at East Richmond.
Would be really happy if this gets built. Duplication to Upfield and Wallan is a must and new stations along the way including Campbellfield.
They should remove this station add two extra train lines so 3 lines for Glen Waverley and 3 for Belgrave / Lillydale which changes over at burnley.
Why?
I clicked on this thinking it was east richmond in Sydney lol but I stuck around for the whole video
are they planning to rebuild all the stations on dandenong/sunbury lines to accommodate the 10 car hcmt's, and is there a timeline for that?
The busy stations will be lengthened, the remainder will stay the same with certain doors not opening
@@MetroManMelbourne define "busy"?
for a while i thought z1's were a completely different type of tram
Melbourne honestly has the rail system of a third world s#/t h0l3
How about "Why your train replacement bus doesn't stop at South Kensington."? Why? Because Metro doesn't give a damn. They have so few damns to give that they don't even advise it on the notice about train replacement buses. When it happened to me, 'damn' may not have been the work I used...
Bankstown trains 2:05 come
This will never ever happen
Pakenham/Cranbourne lines might have recently taken over but it is and now ALWAYS will be just one up and one down line with a half assed HCMT/CBTC system which will NEVER work intermixed with VLine trains and CBTC signalling ending at Clayton
They fucked up when they upgraded it 😂
Why? Because I'm a serious man with serious business. I'm not taking a non-express.
