Silent Supercar-Killer Tesla Model 3 Performance Tested on Genting

- This time, we managed tp get our hands on the Tesla Model 3 Performance, courtesy of Tesla Malaysia, and naturally we had to check it out on our favorite mountain.
To update those not in the know, the performance version of each Tesla model comes with inched up wheels, bigger brakes and beefed up suspension in addition to the dual motors amd of course, some added tuned modes for more exhuberant driving. For these upgrades, I would like to show my appreciation, because they give the car character, and allow it to be driven to its full potential.
I have taken up the Model Y Performance, and liked it, but the Model 3 Performance is even better due to its lower Center of Gravity.
I have also driven the previous Model 3 Performance, and this updated one is even better.

love seeing the respect uncle gives to other cars. See all the other vids of genting where the drivers just blast by them or honk them from behind. This is proper civilized driving that allows us to enjoy our cars safely.

and if you drive in Penang, there will be occasions where the moment you put on your indicator, the car at the fast lane will purposely speed up and flash / horn you from the back.

Torque, gearing, weight, grip level, driver - all are variables.
Uncle, were you driving the Model 3 with one-pedal control around the corners? Just curious because I’ve driven the Model 3 many times and barely touched the brakes!
If you drive normal, you can go one pedal mode. No I was not on one pedal mode. I had to brake going uphill.
Is this your fastest routine, uncle?
Not too sure, because we don't time it, and there is difference in traffic, but I would say where it could go, this is one of the fastest cars I have driven

Were you doing one pedal driving? Was the physical brake needed when going into a corner?
One pedal driving is best for slow driving. I need to determine my own rate of slowing down and at many points I need to reduce speed pretty rapidly. Ability to slow down rapidly is just as important as acceleration.

Does the car understeer?
Amazing performance but I can't imagine using 27% of a gasoline car's fuel capacity in a little run up the hill.
I'd argue that short range and excessive recharging times remain the two great drawbacks of battery-powered vehicles.
500+ kilometer range is possibly better than an equivalent power ICE range. For me, if a car can go between 400 to 500km I am more than okay: with a growing charging network, it should be okay. If supplemented by a home 11kw charger, I would be quite comfortable.

Interesting question. The evolution of BEV is moving at a very fast pace. I am waiting excitingly for what I believe is the next phase and it already started.
Uncle YS, Tesla M3 P or BYD Seal 3.8, which drives better?
The model3P comes with stiffer suspension, bigger wheels, and what looks like Brembos, and P Zeros , so is better equipped for speed.
And 3.0 seconds 0 - 100 is faster than the Seal - of course you pay more for the Tesla.

Uncle YS, judging by your BYD Seal Genting Hillclimb video about 6 months ago, I am given the impression that you enjoyed the Seal much better than the Tesla Model 3P, in terms of handling in sharp turns and more fun to drive (according to your reactions). Am I correct? :)
Both are different and have their individual charms. The Tesla has a bit more power and so requires a bit more seriousness. The tyres made a difference - the Seal was fitted with ECO tyres which made it slip a bit - so it was a bit more exciting.

Quite a bit. And from the top of tbe hill until Gombak we used about 5 percent only.
Byd seal or tesla? Which rides better
Depends on your priorities - comfort or stability, and these priorities change with time of day amd situation.

I see multipots. I had no problems on Genting. Unlike you I have not tested the car on Nurburgring
wonder what kind of ICE cars can keep up with this M3P on this route, A45S? GTR?
And a GR Yaris, GR Corolla, Golf R. Overtaking is another matter, because out of coeners this is quick. GTR may not be as agile.
