The ice cream comparison is truly mind blowing! Ice pops, seltzers, watermelon, and iced coffee are our must have summer fridge and freezer staples, quick refreshing treats for all at a fraction of the price ☀️

Yes! Love all of those treats. We have a watermelon on the counter waiting to be cut as we speak!

Don't forget the tax for the ice cream store, and the store's expectation for a tip. Ice cream out is really quite expensive.
I was running errands by myself today and treated myself to a coffee at a local store. Eeks. $6 for a small cup of coffee. I rarely get coffee out but I need to up my coffee game at home so I can enjoy a special drink at home (or make it for the road). It's funny, I got the coffee after I had watched your video, and as I sipped it I was thinking that I need to add "no coffee out" for this summer. :)
Years ago when I quit my job to be a SAHM, we stopped eating out so often. We only go out for birthdays and special occasions. I do get tired of always cooking but sometimes when we go out it's a disappointment because I know I can make whatever I'm having better than the restaurant. With that in mind, we try to pick restaurants that actually do make the food better than we can at home (authentic Thai, or a wood fired pizza place).

I agree about knowing I can make it cheaper at home, especially breakfast.

Yes to all of this! The last time I ordered coffee out (a small) it was over $5 and I finished it on the short drive home.
I feel the same about eating out and we try to save it for things that the restaurant actually makes better than I can. But what you said resonates with me- I’ve often ordered things and thought “I could make better at home!”

Ice pops are always good in the summer. One idea is to have an ice cream sundae bar at home (with different toppings like sprinkles, whipped cream, and sauces.)

Yes, such a fun way to enjoy a treat that everyone can customize!

I live in a small town with an adorable ice cream shop literally a block and a half from my house. The price of two ice creams is just so outrageous. I’m pretty good about not going but my husband is another story. I also wanted to mention, although my kids are now grown… My last just graduated from high school last week, When I was at home in the summer with them we would find so many free things to do in our town and the neighboring towns. There really are many many things to do in the summer that don’t cost anything. I would just encourage you to get online and see what you can find. It is amazing how much fun you can have in the summer at these different events that are set up specifically for kids and are free. my family used to joke that if there was something free to do in the area, I would find it. I am so glad now that my last one is out of school that I took the time all those years to find all the fun stuff to do. It’s a little work, but it’s worth it!

My daughters, grandchildren, and myself are going on vacation soon. We are eating out a few times and cooking the rest of the days. We are going to purchase items at the store to have a sundae bar instead of going out for ice cream.
You took me back in time with Harriet the Spy. I remember reading those books when I was a little girl.

We took our two year old on an “adventure” to get a sundae to share at the park and he was thrilled! It doesn’t take much to excite littles!

Great tips! I agree, icecream can be so expensive. We do go out for ice cream to a fancier place once or twice in summer but we do diy at home mostly. My daughter is almost 3 and doesn’t know the difference really just enjoys getting to have it

I hang out almost all our clothes, sheets, towels etc. Love it. Also we grow tomatoes. Carole

We used to have the rule of eating out once a week. Now, we don't even do that. We only eat out if we are away from home for the day. Eating out is SO expensive & we make better meals at home. I have 7 grown children... planning, budgeting is so important when you have kiddos and want to have fun but don't want to break the bank. Completely doable, just need a plan in place.

Yes, so true and so important! Your family is blessed to have your wisdom and I know your grown children will benefit from those lessons being taught early!

Wow, growing up I never experienced ice cream as one of the keys for summer enjoyment 😂… Fresh watermelon, popsicles, drinking water from the water hose, for example, have been our refreshments😅… You’ve made some valid points though! Hubby and I are going out of town and I’m going to make snacks for the road to save money plus it’s healthier… Thanks for sharing these tips!

Here's irony for you....your two commercials on your channel this time were for travel to Spain, Portugal, national parks, etc., and designer Ralph Lauren clothing. Total opposite of what you are talking about. It's almost like it was on purpose. $8.50 for small ice-cream is ridiculous. I am totally out of touch. We live in a small town in Tennessee and have no kids at home anymore. I do know that a lunch at our local bar-b-que restaurant (I'm talking go to the counter to order type place) is about $40. We don't go out to eat very often. Life is no longer affordable.
